Not sure how long they are willing to wait but I think that makes the most sense in my opinion. Higher quality of competition in the CIC and if you exclude MG then every school is the same size or bigger than them. Why do you say no way?

That is not the Eastern agenda.  They would not like playing Eastbrook, Oak Hill, and Miss every year for a conference championship. It is why they got out of the MIC.

I don't think the TRC will nearly prepare us for post season as the Hoosier has. Curious to see if we keep Pioneer as our one out of division game.

It's a shock to be sure. While it may not be the most ideal when it comes to tourney prep.

With Cass being the newest member of the TRC, the rest of the TRC will hope to provide some resistance on your way to your first conference title in football. The existing teams will fight mightily as we battle to be the best of the rest.  As for the Pioneer game, it would look as if it would workout perfectly as Valley played Wawasee game one as their non conference game.

This makes zero sense. I would assume they will reach out to Lapel since they are not in a conference.

The move makes perfect sense.  how many years did Tipton, Western, or Hamilton Heights step up to play West Lafayette as a non conference game?  I think the three game stretch of Western, WL, and HH with a possible crossover with a WL had taken its toll on the program.  In 2019, Cass beat two out of the three and then turned around to play WL in the crossover. That was followed by Pioneer in the first round of the Sectional.  The team won the conference and the sectional, but was absolutely beat up from top to bottom by the time they played Andrean in the regional.  That 5 game stretch was brutal.

Just saw a tweet from The Kokomo Tribune that Lewis Cass will join the TRC this fall. I’m guessing they’ll play the games that Tippy Valley was slotted to play?

Hmmm. Interesting how things work out.

It is easy, I had to show our Head Coach and AD how it would be done.  The problem is the fact that we play Rochester week 2, so I do not know how they plan on playing Tippy that week?

I think you might know how.

Are we sure about this? I can't imagine all 8 TRC ADs for the teams that were already on Valley's schedule would want to scramble to fill the void in their schedule this year. Seems silly to me that this would be the action they take. Kick them out of the conference early, but keep the games scheduled as non-conference. Especially since the TRC already plays an 8-game, round robin type schedule for football. Imagine any of the teams between weeks 3-9 trying to find another opponent that's nearby who could play when most area conferences are full-in conference play during those times.

    Nope, I don't know anything.

I noticed TV currently plays Rochester week 5. Do you think that game will stand given the rivalry? If not, could be a great opportunity in the future for Pioneer and Rochester to play. Pioneer has Hammond Central scheduled right now and would like to get out of that matchup from a travel standpoint.

That game is going to take place.  It will likely be moved to week 2.  This would look like Rochester would have week 5 open.  I believe it is already in the works to play another team already.

Is  the TRC kicking out Valley early?

Yes, Valley has been officially voted out of the TRC.  Valley was given three options to choose from.  They would not comply with any of the three choices, so the conference elected to dismiss by an 8-0-1 vote.  This will be effective for the fall of 2023.  As I understand it, Valley will need to fill their Fall 2023 football schedule for a year.

Does the TRC have an All Sports trophy?  Is there a comprehensive record somewhere of where each Valley Team finished in the TRC last year and in the years prior?  Be interesting to see how they compared to the rest of the TRC in all sports.

Also, I've heard that some of the frustration for the former NIC schools was lower level games being cancelled over and over again by certain other league teams.   I wonder if Valley ran into any of that in the TRC?

Valley has only been a school dating back to 1975.  They have a very good overall record.  They won the conference outright in 2021 and tied for it in 2022. From 1998 on it has not been a total domination.  Here are the program numbers since they became Consolidated.

CMA has been having discussions with the new conference schools. I guess CMA wants to join. We will see. I honestly believe they would be a good fit. I know they have had some great seasons in boys basketball as of late but they are coming back down to average. Football had some really good seasons from 2017-2019 but year in and year out, they are not a juggernaut. All other sports would be about even. There is the issue of gate with hosting them. Hopefully that can be worked out. On the plus side, CMA never charges for admission to home games unless hosting IHSAA tourney games.

This will not align with Valley's mission.  They will not like this move by the new conference.  I am not sure it would be a 6-0 vote.

I’ve heard Manchester has 15 applicants. Quite a bit of interest.

Whitko hired Brad Sprunger—the third Sprunger to coach the Cats.

I have heard a name at Southwood. Can’t officially confirm it, but it would be an absolutely sick hire, Mark my words.

I saw what you did there! Pretty clever.  I have heard the same rumor...have also heard that he backed out.

I'm hearing from a pretty good source that Tippy is trying to distance itself from Rochester.  Thus part of the  reasoning the Zebras declined.

Your source is wrong.  Why was Rochester the first call Valley made when they initiated the switch? Why did their AD say that Valley and Rochester must keep playing each other?  The gate is too good for either team to "distance itself".  You don't have a source. You have an uninformed bystander.

TRC is a solid fit for Rochester as far as enrollment is concerned, not going to argue that. But if you are telling me Rochester isn't moving to the new conference because of small enrollment, I'm not buying that for a second.

Nah, I wasn't tell you anything.  Just stating a few observations.  There were a many factors that led to the declining the offer.  Travel, other sports, current situation, and so on.

Maybe Puntheball can comment on the reasoning.

Me personally I am fine staying put but I hope we can replace Valley with another competitive school all around and if North Miami leaves like some think on this forum I would like to see us grab another tough conference opponent for all sports.

I am curious to what powers the TRC holds. Are the able to block a team from leaving. Is their a contract the teams have to sign with their respective leagues?

Two year exit is by the bylaws.  They are asking to be released a year early.  They could also be voted out immediately!

interesting that Rochester turned down the request as they seem like perfect fits. Any Zebra faithfuls able to chime and get their point of view.

What are the chances Wawasee entertains the idea? From a competitive standpoint it's got to be pretty appealing

With Plymouth on their current trajectory any chance the Pilgrims might be a target? I know this is probably the longest shot but how many 0-10 teams in a row can you withstand until you do something? Not to mention their entire athletic department is not what it use to be.

Rochester is mid pack in the TRC by enrollment.  If they would have accepted the invitation to the new conference, they instantly move to the second smallest in enrollment.  I am guessing that LaVille will continue to grow and make Rochester the smallest.  The other teams mentioned like Fairfield and Wawasee are larger.  Many Zebra faithfuls remember the NLC days.  When you were loaded, you still weren't loaded.  The TRC has been a nice conference fit and still is.

  15. Rochester has Knox, Valley, Peru, and Maconaquah on their schedule already as 3a opponents.  Along with a mix of 2a and 1a teams.  There is the possibility of North Miami leaving the TRC also.  This would open up the opportunity to schedule another 3a opponent.  There are possible additions to the TRC that may happen now.  Valley and Rochester will always play.  What don't you understand FinePrint?
