I mostly like this because I definitely think other sports should be regulated. But I don't think they should wait until May and come up with restrictions for the immediate summer. I feel like that puts the basketball coaches who are currently putting together those summer schedules in a tough spot. But I'm very happy they doing something. The multi-sport athlete is dead by mid to late June. When my son doesn't want to walk up the stairs to a water slide and that keeps me from riding water slides, something has to be done.

They gave them plenty of time to regulate themselves, and they didn't do it.  If they are in a tough spot, it is self inflicted.

  2. I think this might work for 2A North.  Sectional 33 would have 7 with a bye.

33 - Whiting, Bishop Noll, Lake Station Edison, Andrean, Wheeler, Laville, Bremen

34 - Delphi, Pioneer, Winamac, Rochester, Cass, Wabash, Manchester, Whitko

35 - Prairie Heights, Eastside, Churubusco, Central Noble, Luers, Bluffton, Eastbrook, Blackford

36 - Eastern (Greentown), Tipton, Elwood, Frankton, Alexandria, Lapel, Winchester, Shenandoah

  3. This makes sense to me in the 2A North.  Sectional 33 would have 7 with a bye.

33 - Whiting, Bishop Noll, Lake Station Edison, Andrean, Wheeler, Laville, Bremen

34 - Delphi, Pioneer, Winamac, Rochester, Cass, Wabash, Manchester, Whitko

35 - Prairie Heights, Eastside, Churubusco, Central Noble, Luers, Bluffton, Eastbrook

36 - Eastern (Greentown), Tipton, Elwood, Frankton, Alexandria, Lapel, Winchester, Blackford

On a first look at it, this is how I'd do it.

Andrean, Bishop Noll, Bremen, LaVille, Thomas Edison, Wheeler, Whiting

Bishop Luers, Bluffton, Central Noble, Churubusco, Eastside, Manchester, Prairie Heights, Whitko

Blackford, Eastbrook, Eastern, Lewis Cass, Pioneer, Rochester, Wabash, Winamac

Benton Central, Delphi, Greencastle, LCC, North Putnam, Seeger, South Vermillion, Southmont

Alexandria, Elwood, Lapel, Frankton, Northeastern, Tipton, Shenandoah, Winchester

Cardinal Ritter, Cascade, Christel House Manual, Eastern Hancock, Heritage Christian, Scecina, Triton Central, Union County

Brown County, Brownstown, Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern, Mitchell, Paoli, Switzerland County

Forest Park, Linton Stockton, Mater Dei, North Knox, North Posey, Perry Central, Tell City, Sullivan

I think 7 of the 8 make geographical sense and the other one starts with the Indianapolis teams and grabs everything that's left.  Cascade really fits better with Greencastle and North Putnam but it's the furthest East of those schools and someone needed to go towards the Indy-based sectional.  You could also swap Eastbrook and Blackford into the Fort Wayne sectional for Manchester and Whitko and it would make some sense based on the map but I thought having Whitko and Manchester in the same sectional as Prairie Heights looks a little better than Eastbrook and Blackford.

Are there 63 schools in 2A?

This all makes no sense.  Pioneer has a one time talent in Jack Kiser and hasn’t won state since 2018. Chatard wins state in 2019 & 2020.  Neither wins sectional in 2021.  Chatard goes down, Pioneer stays up.  I know what the rule says about points earned in a higher class.  But this just looks wrong.  IHSAA should have just reset everything to enrollment and started over.

It is perplexing.  I think you could make the argument that any team that won a state championship last year should move up.

We know the rules and want to make sure this in no way meant to be negative toward football or track just kind off wondered what other people were doing There is plenty of room for all to work out

I would just want the track guys to have the opportunity to participate if they wanted.  Having it during track would not allow them the opportunity.

I would first suggest looking into what you are allowed to do. There is a limited contact window in the Spring where you can do football stuff. But outside that window, you are limited to strength, conditioning, and agility work, and nothing football specific.

Limited contact starts today and runs through May 14.

Are you drawing a distinction with club, like the year-round guys, versus a travel baseball team that plays about 6 weeks or so in the summer after the high school season ends?  Or are you considering those the same thing?

Example, varsity wrestling coaches holding club practice in high school wrestling room with kids grades 5-11 two weeks after varsity wrestling season is over.  It is not during limited contact period.

Here's my stab at 2A...Updated post based off most recent information - haha

33 - Whiting, Bishop Noll, Lake Station Edison, River Forest, Andrean, Wheeler, Laville, Bremen

34 - Delphi, Pioneer, Winamac, Rochester, Cass, Wabash, Manchester, Whitko

35 - Prairie Heights, Eastside, Churubusco, Central Noble, Luers, Bluffton, Eastbrook

36 - Eastern (Greentown), Tipton, Elwood, Frankton, Alexandria, Lapel, Winchester, Blackford

37 - Northeastern, Shenandoah, Heritage Christian, Park Tudor, Scecina, Ritter, Triton-Central, Union County

38 - Benton Central, LCC, Seeger, South Vermillion, Greencastle, Cascade, North Putnam, Southmont

39 - Sullivan, Linton-Stockton, North Knox, North Posey, Mater Dei, Tell City, Perry Central, Forest Park

40 - Crawford County, Paoli, Mitchell, Brown County, Brownstown Central, Eastern Pekin, Clarksville, Switzerland County

In my opinion, 39 and 40 are pretty much set it in stone.  In 38, I pulled two "North" schools down to the south because I think driving down south for them w/ access to 65 might make easier trips than driving across the state.

As far as the north goes, I think you are spot on.  i don't know the south well enough to evaluate.  It makes sense what you did in the north, so the IHSAA will probably find a way to shuffle it up.  The will at least make it so Eastbrook isn't in the same sectional as Luers.

I don't understand what you mean with "classes more balanced?" The football setup is pretty well set in stone. I don't know how you can "balance" the classes any more than they already are.

Ok, I will go real slow so you can keep up.  There were 30 teams in 6A last year and 37 in 5A.  That is not 32 and 32.  Two 6A programs were in the Sectional finals without playing a game.  This is not balanced.

There's been some discussion about changing the class structure in the 4-class sports to add a fifth class and use hard enrollment cutoffs.

Football isn't changing because of the need for 32 or 64 teams in each class due to playing one week and keeping everyone playing the same number of tournament rounds.

Man, get with what we are talking about.  They are trying to make the classes more balanced.  They do not want a team to go over two weeks without playing.  Everybody knows the 32/64 number.

Why do people keep thinking that 5A will have 32 teams?  The state has already stated several years ago that they will put 32 in 6A and then fill up 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A with 64 teams and the remaining schools will go into 5A.

i think they released a more recent statement about trying to equal out the classes better.  Not sure what that means.

Yeah, that's what the IDOE has done.  Hmm.  I think they just gave the information from the wrong year.  Until the IHSAA or the IDOE makes a statement, we can all make reasons.

I don't think they gave data from the wrong year.  I can't recall Bremen ever having that high of an enrollment.

I find it interesting that the IHSAA keeps the announcement up on their website, but they remove the document linked to it.  Wouldn't it remove some confusion if they released a statement about the situation.

It seems most of the issues were with private school enrollments - and some of them were several years out of date. It appears the IHSAA was given bad data by the Department of Education. While public schools have a "count day" and have to report that data to the DOE for funding purposes, private schools have different funding mechanisms (vouchers & tuition), so their reporting is different.

    Imagine that!
