Is Southport truly happy or do they just not have any other options? I honestly don’t know but Conference Indiana used to have six Marion County schools. Decatur Central and Perry Meridian left for the Mid-State, Pike and Lawrence Central left for the MIC, and Franklin Central left for the HCC. Also, Martinsville was also in Conference Indiana and they left for the Mid-State. With other larger-enrollment Indy-area conferences like the MIC, HCC, and Mid-State being at a max capacity of eight schools each, Southport doesn’t have much choice. If Conference Indiana were to fall apart, one would have to think Southport would go independent unless some of the growing Indy area public schools decided to break off from their small-enrollment conferences and form a new one. This is just me spit-balling but I’d truly be curious to know what Southport thinks of its situation.

5A Regional Castle vs Jeffersonville

Castle will win. They’re easily better than any Hoosier Hills Conference team aside from Columbus East. -

Jeffersonville at Castle Heck of a run Jeff is on right now. Seems like the humiliating 41-14 loss to Madison woke them up as they’ve now won four straight games. It’s their longest winning streak since 2014 when they began that season 7-0. The win at Floyd Central ten days ago snapped an eight game losing streak to the Highlanders dating back to 2014. The sectional title win three days ago was the first for Jeff since 2007 and their fifth sectional title overall. Now, Jeff attempts to win its first regional title ever when they play at Castle this Friday. It’s their first meeting since 2012 when Jeff lost there 50-29 in the sectional championship. Jeff has lost three straight to them. 2007 was their last win against the Knights. Hopefully the Red Devils have another upset in them. -

I don’t mind it. It was a fun challenge. Unfortunately, we didn’t have two of our best teams during these two years in 6A. Seems to be how it works out. The group of kids that get you bumped up are gone and you end up with a weaker team in the newer class for the two year cycle. But, at least it showed us what it takes to be on a 6A championship level.

I missed the third dad. I knew dad 2 argued with dad 3 after dad 1 left for a seat at the far end of the bleachers, but I didn’t realize dad 2 and dad 3 was nearly a fight too. -

Who would’ve guessed Jeffersonville would be the last HHC team standing? Crazy. -

Just learned Parker Harrison (East’s defensive MVP and the co-leader in tackles in 6A) will have to sit out tomorrow’s game against Center Grove because of contact tracing. Huge blow. He also had two touchdown receptions last week too so that hurts a bit offensively as well.

I’m not going to sit here and say East is going to win. It’s not impossible but it’s definitely improbable. At the very least I want to see them fight their hardest for 48 minutes. Maybe earn some respect for hanging with the best team in the state for a short time or for playing hard until the final whistle. Make what’s likely to be your final game in 6A a memorable one. As for Center Grove, I have lots of respect for the program and for Coach Moore. He actually earned my respect off the field ten years ago when his son (Tyson) took my sister to the Columbus East prom. My dad was planning on giving Tyson “the talk” before they all went on their ways but Coach Moore stepped in first and gave him “the talk” instead which earned our respect. We didn’t expect Tyson to do any wrong and I’m sure Coach Moore didn’t either, but it was nice to know we really didn’t have to worry one bit because he was raised right. But, anyways, good luck to the Trojans and their fans. Unless East somehow pulls off a miracle of Christ-like proportions, I’ll be pulling for you to stay COVID free and win a 6A state title like you have shown you deserve.

The fact that they nearly beat Brownsburg has to be tough. The kid is probably thinking they’d have won if he had played. -

A couple of edits to make here. Zionsville is actually the largest 5A school with 2,055 students. They played in 6A during the 2019 season but were dropped to 5A for the 2020 season as a result of Elkhart forming and being a much larger school. That threw me off when looking at the enrollment figures. Also, the IHSAA messed up Fort Wayne Snyder’s classification listing. They are a 5A-sized school playing up in 6A. This list came out prior to the IHSAA’s ruling that 2 points kept you up a class rather than 3 points (which explains the error). Therefore, the 2 points total Snider got in the 2017 and 2018 seasons kept them in 6A for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Currently, Snider has 0 points but can remain in 6A with a semi-state appearance. Anything short of that drops them back to 5A. -

Enrollment/Classification News We’re now in the part of the tournament where success factor points get handed out with each win. Keep an eye on these as it will have an impact on who’s in what classification next year. 6 points in a cycle moves you up a classification . If you’re already playing up, 2 points keeps you in that classification for the next two-year cycle. 6A schools - Columbus East (0 points) will remain in 6A with a semi-state appearance. Anything short of that drops them back to 5A. 5A schools - New Palestine (4 points) has already met the 2 point threshold required to remain in 5A. However, they can move up to 6A with a semi-state appearance. - Fort Wayne Dwenger (2 points) has already met the 2 point threshold required to remain in 5A. However, they can move up to 6A with a state title. - Valparaiso (3 points) can move up to 6A with a state finals appearance. - Cathedral (1 point) can remain in 5A with a sectional title. A loss this Friday drops them back to 4A. 4A schools - Evansville Memorial (4 points) has already met the 2 point threshold required to remain in 4A. However, they can move up to 5A with a semi-state appearance. - East Noble (3 points) can move up to 5A with a state finals appearance. - Hobart (2 points) can move up to 5A with a state title. - Mount Vernon (Fortville) can move up to 5A with a state title. As far as enrollments go, here are the schools that could move up or down a classification based on the enrollment info for the current classification cycle. Lowest 6A enrollments (excluding Columbus East) Warsaw 2,103 Lafayette Jeff 2,063 Columbus North 2,063 Chesterton 2,063 Zionsville 2,055 Highest 5A enrollments Valparaiso 2,054 Jeffersonville 2,035 Fort Wayne Northrop 2,032 Harrison (West Lafayette) 1,979 Castle 1,965 Lowest 5A enrollments (excluding New Palestine, Fort Wayne Dwenger, and Cathedral) Fort Wayne North 1,550 Seymour 1,522 Munster 1,521 Mishawaka 1,477 BNL 1,471 Highest 4A enrollments Huntington North 1,459 Greenfield-Central 1,453 Martinsville 1,435 Northridge 1,397 Pendleton Heights 1,383 Evansville Reitz 1,378 Mooresville 1,372 Fort Wayne Wayne 1,369 -
