Hoosier Hills Conference
Frozen Tundra replied to starbacker's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yeah the enrollments that were put out two years ago prior to the current cycle have East at 1,475 students which is the 62nd highest in the state. When throwing the success factor into things, that puts us right on the edge of 4A and 5A depending on how many teams they plan on having in each of those classes next year. 4A currently has 62 teams and 5A oddly has 33. Not sure why 5A needs to have more than 32 when 4A has a couple of spots to fill in for a full 64 team bracket. -

It sucks because I’m almost always at Columbus East’s home games. Didn’t get to go to any this year. The game at Franklin Central will actually be my first East game this season. If we win, I’m hoping I’ll get to make the trip to Center Grove if tickets are available. -

No. Players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members and their families. My understanding is that each kid on the football team, cheerleading team, and band get two tickets for family and the seniors sometimes get more than that so more of their family can come. The tickets have never been made public because those affiliated with Columbus North or Columbus East football, cheerleading, or band end up taking all of the tickets for the home side. There’s no conspiracy here. It’s also my understanding that both schools (North and East) have been given guidelines on the number of tickets from the school corporation based on the direction of the local health department. -

They’re doing what they’ve done all year. Columbus East has done it the exact same way this year. -

Columbus East at Franklin Central Seymour at Whiteland Jeffersonville at Floyd Central I don’t think the East at Franklin Central game is going to be as easy a win for East as some might think. That 1-8 record is misleading because they play in the second best conference in the state. For instance, Noblesville (one of Franklin Central’s fellow HCC members) was 1-8 heading into sectionals last year and took a ranked and undefeated Homestead team to overtime before losing. Throw in the fact East will be without McDonald and Franklin Central could give us as much trouble as Noblesville gave Homestead. Still picking East but I’m definitely leery. -

Pick ‘Em Standings (after week 9): @boilerfan87 35/44 (.795) @Frozen Tundra 33/44 (.750) @mamasa 31/44 (.705) @starbacker 29/44 (.659) I went back and noticed Olympian06 actually made picks for weeks 1 and 8. Therefore, here are the standings for those that haven’t made picks all nine weeks. @Olympian06 8/11 (.727) @Fkfootball 21/29 (.724) These are also my picks. I can’t imagine anyone would disagree here. -

Yeah I’m going to have to agree with all four picks once again. I’d like to take BNL but they have really struggled to find the offense the last four weeks. I believe most of the points they scored were against back-ups. Throw in the fact they’re a physically smaller team and that doesn’t bode very well against a team with plenty of size. I personally saw what Jeffersonville’s size did to Jennings County last week and JC is bigger than BNL. -

By the way, this is the second year in a row that Jennings County opens sectionals with a road game at Martinsville. There was a 7% chance of that happening. -

That’s really tough to say right now because we don’t know the new enrollment numbers yet and we don’t know how the success factor will play into it. Teams will be moving up and down and that’ll have an effect on sectional alignments. -

Whoops. Forgot about Seymour and their sectional. For 5A sectional 14, couldn’t have worked out more perfectly. If you had to seed the bracket, these are the matchups you’d get. -

For those who haven’t seen it yet, here are the sectional brackets for all eight HHC teams. Initial thoughts: For 6A sectional 8, I’m really glad East drew Franklin Central. This is our last year in 6A and I really wanted to play Franklin Central before moving back down to 5A. East played Franklin Central the first four years East was in existence and lost all four games. The last game was in 1975. For 5A sectional 16, it looks like we’re getting a third Floyd Central vs Jeffersonville matchup. I wonder when the last time is that two teams in the state have met three times in one season. Also, if we’re going by record, this sectional looks like it aligns with how it would’ve been seeded. We’ll know for sure after the week 9 matchup between Jeff and BNL. For 4A sectional 23, this is a perfect example of why I hate the blind draw. You have three of the top ten 4A teams in the state in this sectional (according to the coaches poll) and all three of them are on the same side of the bracket. One of the toughest sectionals in the state and the championship game will likely be a beat down. -

Eh. It ain’t that serious. I just order them by percentage because I know life gets in the way sometimes. Also, the less games you make picks on them more it hurts your percentage when you miss one. If we had money on the line then @boilerfan87 would win. We started this pick ‘em thing last year and he had the best percentage last year too. I’m afraid he’s going to win every year. Seems smarter than the rest of us 😂 -

Hard to gain any ground on you when I agree with your picks. But, as Chris Stapleton sang, I’ve got nobody to blame but me. -

Which is why I thought there was no way they win a game this season. Then Connersville came to town last week and decided to give the game away by committing over 100 yards of dumb penalties. -

That’s the sad part. New Palestine credited their 35 point 4A semi-state loss at Columbus East in 2013 as the driving force that got the program where it is today. It showed them what it took to be an elite program and motivated them to hit the weight room hard. And that was just one loss. I would’ve thought by now some of the other HHC teams would’ve figured that out after multiple losses to East. Not trying to seem like I’m looking down my nose at the other seven schools because I’m not. I’m just disappointed because a lot of the HHC schools have the potential to be able to compete with East but I feel like there’s a lack of commitment on their part. -

Some of you probably already realized this but we’ll be getting brand new conference schedules starting next year. Games will be reordered once again and all nine weeks of the regular season will contain at least one HHC team playing a non-conference game. It’ll be interesting to see how each team fills in those open weeks. We could be seeing matchups we’ve either never seen before or matchups we haven’t seen in a long time. On the flip side, I wonder if teams might struggle finding an opponent for those open weeks.
