There is a difference between Census and Admissions hospitalization data..........you posted Census...below is daily Admissions,  Yesterday, 4 admissions.  While there is some variability, the overall trend for admissions is positive.

Correct.  Here is a more in depth look at ICU and ventilator capacities (one, "Today," is current metrics, the other is by day over time), which are also telling. It would seem that the state of Indiana is not currently, nor was it ever really close, to a shortage on either ventilators or ICU beds.  Of course that can change, I suppose...

Or hospitalizations...you know the ORIGINAL data point about why we were shutting down back in March.

This? Pulled from https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/ at about 7am on 7/18/2020. Seems as though we are have just gone through a month long uptick like what we saw early on.  If that is the case, the next few month should see another large scale drop, but that takes time.

I find this SHOCKING!!!!   Do you mean when 144 people show up to test site and all 144 test positive could be inaccurate.  G

I think it depends on what sites you're talking about.  My understanding is that most of the walk-in test sites utilize nasal swab tests, which if I understand what I have read, only tests for the current presence of the virus in the individual tested.  An anti-body test, again it is my understanding, requires a blood draw, which I would guess, is only being done for some specific reason.  It certainly does not take away from the fact that this is incredibly frustrating...

  4. "Boys of Fall," but yes, it on it's own is pretty awesome. Unfortunately it got played waaaay too much, so personally I'm a bit averse to it now.

What has always struck me, and Smith refers to this in his piece, are the little things you remember or things that take you back. For me it's every time I hear "Crazy Train." That was part of our pregame routine: come in from warm-ups, Lord's Prayer, "Crazy Train," Coach Ryker talk, hit the field. Home and away, didn't matter, we brought a stereo, typically one better than our opponents...😉

does that satisfy being able to participate in fall athletics ?

I posted this somewhere else, but prior to Covid a student-athlete was able to participate (practice and play) so long as they satisfied the school district's requirement for attendance for e-learning. Essentially, the student has to complete any assignment, participate in any activity/meeting teachers may require, and/or complete any alternative assignment deemed necessary by the he classroom teacher and approved by the school.

Over my 17 years of posting here on The GID, I have NO DOUBT that I have influenced, ADs, admins, Coaches, assistants, parents, fans, players, media, you name it.

I am the all time world wide leader in page views on The GID.  You cant help but be an influencer when you have that kind of outreach.

    Vanity thy name is...

And to the poster who mentioned South Vermilion in the WRC, they just rejoined the conference a few years ago after about a 20 year stint in the WCC. I can't speak to their success in that conference, but I know they had quite a bit of coaching turnover there for a bit until Barrett took over. Since then they've been really pretty solid; I think two (maybe three) years ago they were co-champions with Fountain Central and played Danville pretty tough in the tournament that year.

do you have a link or something to verify the validity of these charts ?

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox35orlando.com/news/fox-35-investigates-florida-department-of-health-says-some-labs-have-not-reported-negative-covid-19-results.amp

Toward the bottom is a PDF with some data. I haven't looked through it all, but an educated guess would say that the chart posted here is in there somewhere.

Apologies if this is the wrong link.

  8. Guys, if we are bringing honest there is next to zero chance of having a viable vaccine by this coming spring. If we play football at all this school year, we play with the spectre of Covid. Period.

@oldunclemark, I completely understand your premise and kind of figured that your primary exposure had been with larger schools. I get it, but the fact of the matter is that if you say to small schools that only juniors and seniors can play in the spring of 2021, you have no football at the 1A and 2A level. It just can't happen. No Jr. High ball can be handled, we didn't have a Jr. High team for a bit and we remain competitive at the Varsity level. If bigger schools wanted to limit underclassman participation in the manner you describe,  more power to them, but for the IHSAA to mandate that would be... not good...

  9. At this point, sadly, there are no more "facts" as the term has been colloquially used in the past. For every "fact" that one side brings up, the other has a differing "fact." We should "pay attention to the science" but only the "science" that suits our "facts" not the other fellow's. It's intellectually tiring, and, quite frankly, it's only going to get worse...

I'm sure someone has already asked this but does ihsaa allow extracurricular activities if school is doing e-learning?  To me if they are doing e-learning then they should be allowed activities because they are still technically in school.

In the past, that is, prior to Covid, if a school had a pre-planned e-Learning day, they were still allowed to hold practices and competitions so long as the student-athlete met the school's standard for participation in that e-Learning day.

Did anyone else notice the words "suspended" and "postponed" in point #5 above?  That doesn't read like a cancellation to me, but damn close to it.  It's a subtle difference I'll grant you, but it would seem that there may be some "hope" yet?

But what folks 'want and 'push for' isnt relevant this year.   There will be no 8th grade football.    There will be no freshman football. There will be no JV football.

The testing and protocols will be difficult enough with the varsity.  You dont need to multiply all the tests and precautions and sanitation and transportation concerns by 4.

..and in the 20 games in 9 month scenario, you dont want 8th grade, freshman and JV football in the spring.

Again, we're back to the risk and liability. For this year (spring of '21), there will be nothing but varsity football.  Its not a choice.

It doesn't matter what you and I want.   This is a crisis solution....being done for the older boys so they wont miss their one chance to play and compete.

With the virus risk, especially in the Indy area, I think spring football in the answer.

All well and good, but you initial point that it would just be this years current Junior class that gets "double hit" is still incorrect. Even accepting your premise that JV and Freshman games would not be allowed, which I still find hard to believe that they wouldn't, those freshmen and sophomores will still practice and will still see in some cases significant Varsity playing time at the 1A, 2A, and 3A levels. Freshmen maybe less depending on roster size, but still, even with your suggestion there are still at least 3 classes, freshmen through juniors, who would play in the Spring and Fall of 2021.
