I have no information on this game other than the final score and it is like there was a media blackout on this game with no one interested in covering the game. The South Panthers were the first team to shutout the Cardinals this season, but that's not saying much at all. Some pretty thorough stats were posted for this game today at MaxPreps. Here are some of the basic numbers. South led 17-0 at the half in route to their 41-0 win. The South Panthers had 336 yards of total offense to the Southport Cardinals 164 yards. The Panthers soph QB Duncan Combs was 8 for 16 for 119 yards and one TD with no picks. Cardinals jr QB Gavin Cummins was 11 for 17 for 74 yards and no TDs with two picks. Panther jr RB Braylen Townsend carried the ball 27 times for 148 yards and two TDs. Cardinal jr RB Riley Matlock carried the ball 20 times for 57 yards. The teams combined for eight penalties with each team having four apiece. Besides the big game by Townsend, South's soph DB Quncy Brahaum scooped up a fumble and returned it 50 yards for a TD and also got a pick with 5 1/2 tackles on the game. Quote
ptr Posted October 2, 2024 Author Posted October 2, 2024 Week 7 games in CI: Bloomington North (5-1) @ Columbus East (4-2) - Both teams step out of conference play for a game. The Columbus East Olympians have won four straight games, all in the HHC, and will be facing their best opponent since playing crosstown rival Col. North. The Bloomington North Cougars have won five straight games since their season opening loss to Mooresville. East is much improved as the season wore on, so the North Cougars will need to bring their "A" game this Friday, something they have not always done this season. The Cougars got behind 20-0 in the first qtr in their season opening loss to Mooresville and played catchup the rest of the game, falling short by 3 points. Against TH North a couple of games ago, they played about as poorly as they can play in a game full of mistakes, all on major penalties and turnovers. They survived the TH North game winning by 10 points against a bad team. Do that against East and they will be looking at a loss. East needs to corral or hold down North sr QB Dash King who can beat you with his arm and legs. Do that, and the Olympians can come away with a win. If North brings their "A" game, then they should win the contest. (JH's site prediction - Bloomington North 31 Columbus East 24) Columbus North (5-1) @ Bloomington South (4-2) - The South Panthers are a very young team (14 seniors on a roster of almost 90 players) after having to replace 17 starters at the start of the season and they have improved as the season has progressed. They will have their hands full with a strong Columbus North Bull Dog team coming to town that will feature the 1-2 punch of jr QB Asher Ratliff and sr RB Gino Prescott. South will need to be hitting on all cylinders on offense to come away with a win and they will need a strong running game from jr RB Braylen Townsend which is easier said than done with the Bull Dog defense shutting down most offenses this season. The Bull Dogs held TH North's Zyeiar White to just 12 yards on 14 carries last week and he came into that game with a 165 ypg average. South's young secondary is a real concern for this game. I would have to give the nod to the Bull Dogs in this game. (JH's site prediction - Columbus North 35 Bloomington South 21) Terre Haute South (1-4) @ Brebeuf Jesuit (4-2) - The Terre Haute South Braves make the trip to Indy to play a Brebeuf Jesuit Braves team that has a high-powered offense, so it's the Braves vs the Braves this Friday. Both teams are coming off tough losses last Friday with the TH South Braves falling to Northview on a last second FG, while the Brebeuf Braves lost to Roncalli by 19 points. Both teams have strong QB play with the South Braves being led by sr Brady Wilson who throws for 229 ypg, while the Brebeuf Braves are led by sr Maverick Geske who throws for 315 ypg. Both teams have strong runners with the Brebeuf Braves led by sr CJ Harris who averages 164 ypg on the ground, while the THS Braves are led by jr Tyisaac Corbin who averages 119 ypg on the ground. I see the home team in Brebeuf winning what could be a fairly high scoring game. (JH's site prediction - Brebeuf Jesuit 45 Terre Haute South 35) Southport (0-6) @ Terre Haute North (1-5) - This could be the Southport Cardinals best chance to win a regular season game, but the problem is that the Cardinals have shown no improvement to speak of since last season while the Terre Haute North Patriots are an improved team since last season although their record doesn't show much improvement. The North Patriots lost at Southport last season 43-7. Both teams have anemic passing attacks with the THN Braves averaging 127.2 ypg while the Southport Cardinals average a really weak 59.8 ypg through the air. THN Braves have a big advantage on the ground averaging 212.5 ypg while Southport rushes for 86.3 ypg. THN's Zyeiar White is the big difference in this game with his 145.0 ypg which gives them the edge over Southport. I believe the Patriots are going to reverse the outcome from last season and get their second win of the season. (JH's site prediction - Terre Haute North 35 Southport 28) 1 Quote

After watching almost every Bulldog snap this season, I expect this game to be blown wide open by C North early. Bloomington South is well coached by Johnson, but the boys up front for the bulldogs [Dumo Kak, Garret Long, Evan Saevre] will dominate per usual this Friday. Young qb Combs will feel the pressure the whole night. Offensively with Gino Prescott, and Braylon Thoman coming back to the field this week, they will tear up this young defense and weak secondary. My score prediction 42 - 10 1 Quote
Frozen Tundra Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Keep your eyes and ears open. On Wednesday, October 9, Greenwood will have a school board meeting and will discuss their future conference affiliation. If they decide to leave the Mid-State, and the Mid-State decides to fill Greenwood’s spot, that opens the door for more realignment. Bloomington North and Columbus East applied for membership a few years ago only for the eighth spot to be given to Perry Meridian. Would the two apply again? Would Bloomington South, Columbus North, or Southport apply? Should be interesting to see how it all goes down. Quote

ptr Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) Week 7 results in CI: Bloomington North 28 Columbus East 20 - A much improved Col. East Olympian team gave North all they wanted and they played to a 7-7 tie in the first half. The North Cougars had created some separation in the 3rd with two TDs and led 21-7 going into the 4th. However, the Olympians fought back and pulled within 21-14 with 7 minutes left in the game. The Cougars would pull ahead of the Olympians again at 28-14 with 6 minutes left in the game on a 70-yard TD pass from sr QB Dash King to WR Jorian Brooks to extend the lead to two scores. East would come back again and score a TD with 5 minutes left in the game to make it 28-20 with the PAT missed and that would be the final score. Cougar QB King would finish with 64 yards rushing and 3 TDs while passing for another TD on 248 passing yards. King hit on 75% of his passes. East jr QB Kyson Villareal threw for 163 yards and two TDs. Columbus North 32 Bloomington South 14 - The Columbus North Bull Dogs were clearly the better team on both sides of the ball as they avenged a 49-14 loss to the Bloomington South Panthers from last season. The Bull Dogs are a strong team and very capable of making some serious noise in the 6A playoffs and they have superior line play on both sides of the ball. South did manage to take a couple of slim leads in the game, but would immediately lose those leads on North's next possession. The Panthers had a 7-6 lead with four minutes left in the half, but a Bull Dogs TD would make it 12-7 just before the half. South was able to score a TD on their first possession of the 2nd half to make it 14-12, but that would be it for them as the North Bull Dogs scored 20 straight points to close out the game. The Bull Dogs had 417 yards of total offense while the Panthers managed 264 yards. Bull Dogs jr QB Asher Ratliff was 18 of 22 passing for 188 yards and 2 TDs while rushing for 48 yards on 15 carries and a TD and no picks. Sr RB Gino Prescott got big yardage running behind a big offensive line and was 164 yards rushing on 22 carries and 2 TDs. South's soph QB Duncan Combs was 11 of 23 passing for 194 yards with 2 TDs and no picks. Panther jr RB Braylen Townsend picked up 88 yards rushing on 22 carries. Brebeuf Jesuit 83 Terre Haute South 65 - In one of the craziest games that you will see this season, it looked like the Brebeuf Braves and the TH South Braves had opened the basketball season early with defense an afterthought in this game. The game was played in Indy and the teams combined for 1,583 yards of total offense. I won't even try to give a blow-by-blow description of this game, but it was 35-14 at the end of 1st, 56-38 at the half, and 70-52 at the end of the 3rd. Brebeuf's sr QB Maverick Geske was 17 of 25 passing for 542 yards and 6 TDs with no picks and he scored 2 TDs on just 4 yards rushing. Sr RB CJ Harris carried the ball 20 times for 318 yards and 4 TDs. Brebeuf's sr WR Taylor Clark had 361 receiving yards and 4 TDs. I was unable to come up with stats for the TH South Braves. Terre Haute North 15 Southport 13 - In a battle of bottom dwellers in the conference, I thought that the TH North Patriots running game would be too much for the Southport Cardinals and that's how it played out although it was close. The North Patriots got their 2nd win of the season, while the Cardinals are still looking for that first win. Although I was able to come up with stats on this game, I was unable to find out how the scoring took place in the game. The Patriots had a big advantage in total offense with 410 yards, while the Cardinals had just 193 yards, so either penalties or turnovers, or both, by the Patriots kept the score close. Patriot soph QB Maddox Woodcock was 6 of 14 passing for 112 yards and no TDs with 1 pick. Patriot sr RB Zyeier White had a huge night running the ball and had 246 yards on 28 carries and 1 TD. Southport jr QB Gavin Cummings was 6 of 12 passing for 65 yards with no TDs and he threw 2 picks. Cardinal jr RB Riley Matlock picked up 64 yards on 15 carries and no TDs. ptr Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 (edited) Week 8 games in CI: Bloomington North (6-1) @ Columbus North (6-1) - This game is likely for the Conference Indiana title although both teams will still have a conference game left on the schedule, but they will be favored in those games. The Col. North Bull Dogs are coming off a win last week against Bloom. South, while the Bloomington North Cougars held off the Col. East Olympians. The host Bull Dogs will be spearheaded by jr QB Asher Ratliff and sr RB Gino Prescott, and both players have been extremely impressive this season with consistent performances and will be hard to stop for the Cougars, especially with the Bull Dog's line play. The Bloom. North Cougars have been led by sr QB Dash King who can hurt you with both his arm and legs. The Bulldogs have a strong defense and they have been very consistent in holding down opponents' offenses this season. On the other hand, the Cougars have been pretty inconsistent on defense which doesn't bode well against a strong team like the Bull Dogs. I would have to go with the Bull Dogs as the host team in this game because of their consistency on both sides of the ball, unlike the Cougars. (JH's site prediction - Columbus North 35 Bloomington North 17) Brebeuf Jesuit (5-2) @ Bloomington South (4-3) - Brebeuf is coming into this game with a red-hot offense and is coming off an 83-65 win over TH South. It's not likely that South's defense is going to give up 83 points in this game, but with their secondary giving up many big plays this season, it's going to be difficult in holding Brebeuf's offense down. The Brebeuf Braves are led by sr QB Maverick Geske who had a huge game last Friday throwing for 542 yards and he had 8 TDs (6 TDs passing and 2 TDs rushing.) South will be led by soph QB Duncan Combs and the running of jr RB Braylen Townsend who should be able to run on Brebeuf. South should be able to score on this team, but I don't know if they can make enough big plays on defense to hold the Braves down. I'm looking for a high scoring game with Brebeuf coming out on top. (JH's site prediction - Brebeuf Jesuit 42 Bloomington South 35) Guerin Catholic (3-4) @ Terre Haute North (2-5) - I know absolutely nothing about the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles, but in looking at their schedule, they opened the season with three straight wins and then lost four games in a row, all by big margins. The Terre Haute North Patriots notched their 2nd win of the season by two points against Southport. The Patriots will be led as usual by sr RB Zyeier White who had a huge game last week and ran for 246 yards on 28 carries. I really don't know who to favor in this game, but I'm going with the host Patriots because of White's running ability. It will probably be a close game. (JH's site prediction - Guerin Catholic 42 Terre Haute North 31) Terre Haute South (1-5) @ Southport (0-7) - The Terre Haute South Braves were on the wrong end of a crazy game against Brebeuf, losing 83-65, while the Southport Cardinals came close to getting their first win of the season against TH North, losing by two points. I'm not going to spend much time on this game, since I think the South Braves will win big in this game. Look for Braves sr QB Brady Wilson to have a big game. (JH's site prediction - Terre Haute South 42 Southport 31) After another domination up front last week and getting out of our heads defensively in the second half of the Bloomington South game, the Bulldogs are looking sharp and fine tuned on both sides of the ball. Bloomington North's sloppy offensive line play will have the offense reeling and desperate early. North's O line will limit the Cougars offensively all night. The Bulldogs discipline and aggression on defense will set them up for success on Friday. Offensively for the Bulldogs their balanced attack should prove to be too much for North's defense to handle. Qb Ratliff, who did his best Patrick Mahomes impression against South, I predict he will have another big game against North's bad defensive back play. 1 Quote

Bulldog15 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 The Columbus North vs Bloomington North game went into double OT. I've not been to a HS game like that before. Definitely had the crowd on a roller coaster of emotion. Hats off to both teams for putting on a show and giving it everything they had. Below are some highlights. Columbus North scored on several 4th down attempts. Had my heart in overdrive! lol 1 Quote
cbass Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 CN vs BN game was one of the wildest games I've ever witnessed. Two 4th and 9's converted to stay alive! CN's defense got shredded in the first half. That was quite troubling from a CN fan, but lots of key injuries on D. If the defense doesn't get fixed/healthy they are in trouble come sectionals. Any update on Dash King? That kid played his heart out! Wow! If he is healthy, BN can challenge for state. Both teams should be proud of their efforts. A game that those boys, and their fans, will never forget. Quote
ptr Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 (edited) Circumstances prevented me from taking in the high school action this past Friday. It was the first time I've missed a South game in quite some time and it looks like missed out on some great games. I'm just now catching up on what happened in the Col. North and Bloom North game and it looks like it was a great game. South and Brebeuf were in a shootout as expected and I'm still getting caught up on what happened in that game. Actually, all of my game predictions went as expected although I expected the Bull Dogs game to be not as close because of the Bull Dogs being a little more consistent in their play, something the Cougars have not been. ptr Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 (edited) Week 8 games results in CI: I can't do much justice to these games since I wasn't able to follow any of the games. Columbus North 35 Bloomington North 34 (20T) - B-North's QB Dash King threw for 87 yards and 2 TDs before being hurt and WR Jalen Williams had 67 receiving yards for 3 TDs. The Cougars led at the half 14-6 at the half and it was 21-21 at the end of regulation, with Col. North winning the game in double overtime by one point. If my information is correct Bloomington North went for two in the 2nd overtime and failed in the conversion. I didn't get any of the Bull Dogs stats. Brebeuf Jesuit 68 Bloomington South 57 - This promised to be a high scoring game and it was. Brebeuf's sr QB Maverick Geske had his 2nd huge game in a row and he passed for 559 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Meanwhile, sr RB CJ Harris rushed for 167 yards and 3 TDs on 15 carries. Bloomington South's jr RB Braylen Townsend had a huge game, carrying the ball for 337 yards for 5 TDs and averaged 9.1 yards per carry, and he also had 60 receiving yards and a TD. South rushed for 402 yards on the game. South soph QB Duncan Combs was 10 of 18 for 205 yards and 2 TDs with a pick. Terre Haute South 30 Southport 6 - No need to spend much time on this game since it went as expected. TH South's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5 on the season. As for Southport, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Guerin Catholic 41 Terre Haute North 18 - Guerin Catholic had lost four straight games but the TH North Patriots haven't been much better. Still, this game went as expected with the Patriots losing five of their last six games. Patriot RB Zyeiar White had another big game with 106 yards and a TD on 15 carries, but that was about it for the Patriots. I didn't get any of the Guerin Catholic stats. One of the best games I have been able to watch at the high school level. First of all hats off to all of the boys on the field and Columbus North for finding a way to win. What a battle up front on both sides of the ball, what a physical game. I have heard Quarterback King's injury is serious and wanted to congratulate that kid on the game he played. Absolutely great game out of him and his receiver number 1. I hope those coaches learn why you can't have your quarterback be your number 1 rusher no matter how good he is. Prayers up for him though. Defense for the bulldogs started out flat and picked it up after 14 quick points from Bloomington Norths offense who made a lot of plays in the air and their offensive line held up. Offensively for the Bulldogs as I expected the passing and rushing game were in effect with Ratliff 224 passing and Prescott 155 rushing. I am excited to see this team entering the playoffs and have a great run ahead of them. Quote

I can't remember where I saw the numbers that King had, but it's all moot now. Edited October 16, 2024 by ptr Quote
ptr Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 (edited) Game 9 games in CI: Southport (0-8) @ Bloomington North (6-2) - The Cougars lost their starting QB in Dash King to a serious injury during the Col. North game and required surgery which ended his high school career. Starting CB Luke Freel will take over the QB duties for the rest of the season. Even though Dash King is out for the season, the Cougars should have no problem handling the Cardinals and should win this game easily, with the Cardinals on their way to a winless season considering they drew Perry Meridian in the sectional opener. (JH's site prediction - Bloomington North 38 Southport 17) Columbus North (7-1) @ Terre Haute South (2-5) - The Columbus North Bulldogs make the long trip to Terre Haute. The strength of the TH South team is their offense and they have put up a lot of points with sr QB Brady Wilson leading the way while jr RB Tyisaac Corbin averages 131.3 ypg. But, I don't see the Braves having enough offense to move the ball on a strong Col. North Bull Dog defense. The Bull Dogs should be able to move the ball on the Braves defense with jr Asher Ratliff at QB and sr RB Gino Prescott running the ball to the tune of 126.6 ypg. I see the Bull Dogs winning this game by at least two TDs. (JH's site prediction - Columbus North 42 Terre Haute South 24) Bloomington South (4-4) @ Seymour (4-4) - Both teams come into the game with equal records, but there is a major difference in the schedules with all four losses by the Bloom. South Panthers being to extremely strong teams, while the Seymour Owls have played somewhat weaker opponents. I honestly don't know much about the Owls other than looking at their schedule. For a young soph, B-South Panther QB Duncan Combs has been pretty solid under center, and he has thrown for 1270 yards on the season and 14 TDs. Meanwhile, Panther jr RB Braylen Townsend is coming off a huge game where he had 337 rushing yards for 5 TDs and averaged 9.1 yards per carry against Brebeuf. He also had 60 receiving yards for a TD. Townsend is 2nd in rushing yards in 5A with 1,305 yards on the season. For the Owls to win the game, they need to stop Townsend, and if they key on him, Combs can hurt them, so good luck with that. (JH's site prediction - Bloomington South 38 Seymour 17) Brebeuf Jesuit (6-2) @ Terre Haute North (2-6) - This game could get real ugly early on with the Brebeuf Braves having put up huge numbers on offense, and Brebeuf's sr QB Maverick Geske passed for 559 yards and five TDs against Bloomington South. Brebeuf's sr RB CJ Harris rushed for 167 yards and 3 TDs. Meanwhile, the TH North Patriots rely primarily on their ground game with sr RB Zyeiar White who averages 153.1 ypg. Being a one-dimensional team doesn't bode well for the Patriots. I see this game being a blowout win for the Braves.
