In a game I called this past Friday, there was a situation where we saw a player receive the ball as they were going to the ground, falling on his back. As soon as he made contact with the ground, the defender also fell on top of the receiver and appeared to punch the ball out. It was called incomplete. I know that to the letter of the NFL, you must survive the ground for the catch to be called complete. Does that rule also apply to high schools?
I believe that this was the correct call by the crew, but wanted to make sure I fully understood the catch rule.
