When are the advantages enough?

So is your solution to not have school boards? I'm genuinely curious now. -
When are the advantages enough?

Yep! Return authority to local school boards, and stop taking property taxes from other counties to spend elsewhere! ALL of my property taxes should remain within my community. Not taken from mine based on where I live, and distributed in other municipalities to "level the playing field". -
I really hope the Sectional Final is Pioneer v Sheridan. Gonna be a fun two years in that Sectional.

Two things can be true. 1) Travel ball is awful. 2) Umpires continue to have too much influence on the outcome of baseball/softball games. Now, hear me out on #2. In all sports, officials are there to make sure the game is played fairly and inside the rulebook. In baseball/softball, an umpires strike zone can change in mere seconds. Their eyesight dictates the difference between a baserunner and a strike out, safe or out, fair or foul. I'm a HUGE fan of ABS, NOT because I don't appreciate the job that umpires do, but because you can't have a fair sport based on the whim of a human. I know umpires are doing their best, and 99% of the time, they are calling the game right down the middle. However, we all know that makeup calls exist. I've witnessed and spoken with an umpire that admitted to opening up "the zone" because some coach said something. That's asinine. Kids overcoming adversity is meant to be about the competition. The adversity shouldn't be because of the officials, in ANY sport.

School vouchers are funded through the General Education Fund, which is funded via state level taxes, I.e. income tax, sales tax, etc. Property taxes fund the Operations budgets of the local school, unless a referendum has been passed. -
IHSAA to vote on NIL

The Statehouse really needs to go fly a kite. -

Personally, I would have rather had shot clocks and no PBA, but I also have long voiced my concern for how all schools would implement a shot clock, without financial assistance from the IHSAA. Schools would likely need one person dedicated solely to the shot clock, adding cost per game, and then of course is the purchasing of said shot clocks. Some schools are using such dated scoreboards that they couldn't easily add shot clocks, which would cause them to fully replace the whole system. In my opinion, neither measure should have passed. -

It would be interesting to see how many players would come from Rossville. With them never having high school football, what youth programs do they have available? -

Does Clinton Central really want to venture into 3A football? I can't imagine that would be fun for anyone. -

I think this will be a much bigger issue in basketball than in football. Small schools already have trouble holding on to talent with open enrollment. Now, trying to convince kids not to move to larger schools will be near impossible. -
Looking at the map, I would have put Caston and Pioneer in 42, and moved Clinton Prairie and Carroll to 43. Also, would have put North Miami in 44, and moved Southwood to 43. The only reason I can see for NOT doing this is that 6 teams of the 8 would be from the same conference. But let's be honest, how fun would it be to see Bud Wright against Sheridan for a Sectional title?

Offseason Topics of Discussion
Daniel_Bragg replied to jets's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
1) Difference between tax rate and taxes owed is important when assessing anything that deals with government. 2) Of course you don't get a "vote" on every issue that the School Board handles. You know why? Because we have a representative republic. Not a true democracy. 3) Do you take issue when other government entities, I.e. libraries, use this same "loophole" to make building improvements? Using bonds to make high dollar improvements with minimal impact to the taxpayer is a responsible way to not let buildings become decrepit. All of this being said, as an elected official, I was against renewing a library bond in Sheridan in 2025, because I wasn't satisfied with the scale of work, for the dollar amount of the bond. It still passed, but I only say this to point out that I at least have "some" experience in this issue. Ultimately, if you want to have an actual vote on whether something like this happens in the future, put your name on a ballot, and join the conversation. -

Lebanon to the HHC
Daniel_Bragg replied to 1st_and_10's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Sheridan football hasn't been the same since they left the Hoosier. Sure, they don't walk over EVERYONE in the conference, but almost every year, we know that the only really competitive games are going to be against Carroll and Eastern, the last two games of the season. In my opinion, the conference does a terrible job of preparing the Hawks for the postseason, because they spend the majority of the season boosting their egos by beating bad teams. I'd much rather Tipton join the HHC than Frankfort. Or heck, the Hawks moving back to the Hooser, albeit some of those bus rides were downright stupid. -

I've been lobbying hard for Sheridan to leave the Hoosier Heartland. This move would be enough for me to demand it. -
When Victory Formation isn't

This is my biggest issue with the coaches. Why in God's name are you kneeling when they have timeouts, and there is no possible way for you to run out the clock? -
Guardian Caps — Do They Work?
Daniel_Bragg replied to Bobref's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Is it not possible that both could be true? NFL players collide A LOT harder and faster than high school players. I could believe that they would cut down on concussions in the NFL, while having very little effect in the high school ranks. -
Does anyone know of a website that tracks Indiana High School basketball season records going back further than John Harrell's? For football, there is the Indiana Football Almanac site, but I haven't been able to find any site for basketball like this.

Yep. Nobody is happy with how that went down. Still a chance that both South Putnam and Providence move up next year. -
1A State Tournament: OFFICIAL Thread

As a Sheridan person, it would certainly be an awkward situation. It would be like a movie, though. The town would finally have its chance to say "thank you" and "goodbye" to Coach Wright. -
Hypothetical Neutral Site Regionals 2025
Daniel_Bragg replied to HoopsCoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I would love to see the universities in Indiana host Semi-State competitions. I just think it would be fantastic to see some high school basketball played at Purdue, IU, etc. The same thing could be done for football. Obviously, you aren't going to sell out a D1 college stadium, but it would be a fantastic stage for these kids. **This is a dream of mine. I have no idea of the actual feasibility of this idea.**
