one indicator of if the reopening of schools and if the in-person class structure will work will be revealed by schools that open up this week. I know Avon is scheduled to open Wednesday of this week (unless it has changed)......if it is in-person classes I think we will get a clear idea of how all this works....kind of the so called "canary in the coal mine" -
Should we return to play on schedule?

that is why some of the pro athletes, especially the young ones, are hesitant to return......due to the unknown long lasting effects of the virus......some studies suggest hindering effects on the lungs and hearts........think about being a young athlete......a full career ahead of you...getting the virus, surviving due to age, but the long lasting effects never let you get back to where you were before and your career is over..........some tough decisions -

I just don't know how we can think the back to school thing will ever work......our leaders said don't worry about the check points, just reopen your states..........now look at some of those states and areas that followed that advice......things have blown up because they reopened too soon and without any plan.....and people are suffering......with the schools, I don't know.....as a nation we couldn't supply the hospitals and 1st line workers with all the necessary PPE. Trained medical professionals doing their jobs got the virus, and some died......We have more schools throughout the US than hospitals....... keeping all the schools supplied will be a task........during a normal school year we never have enough hand soap, paper towels and cleaning products.....the same hallway has the same gum on the floor for 9 weeks.......during a pandemic do you really think the schools will react any differently? Just too many bells and too many whistles and too many moving parts -

KInd of like Pence saying the same thing. Well you don't have to make that choice, your kids are grown. With the 1000 opened jobs here in Indiana and subs needed desperately feel free to send Mrs. Pence to a public school to sub or volunteer where she would be an asset with her teaching license. -

The President doesn't have to worry about Baron. His school has gone to virtual learning . They don't even start til Sept. 8th. If there is any "hybrid" learning at the school it will be set as to when/which students come in at certain times...well heck I'd be fine with that also. He can say that because his son may not have to set foot in school at all. I'm sure his grandchildren have the same option. -
Three more schools have suspended athletic activities until August 3: Valparaiso, Highland & EC Central. They join Calumet, Clark, Gavit, Hammond High, KV, Michigan City, Morton, Portage and River Forest as schools that are in temporary shutdowns. INDIANAPOLIS — Washington Township Schools will have virtual classes until further notice. While that's welcome news for some, its bad news for students like Sharlee Little's 12th grade son Cole, who was planning to play high school soccer when virtual classes end for the day. "As of right now since the board has decided not to have fall sports he will not be playing his senior year along with all the other kids that play sports," Little said. In a video message to the school board, students of North Central are asking the school board to reconsider their decision to eliminate sports and extra-extracurriculars ahead of a Wednesday night school board meeting.

The South Bend Community School Corp.'s decision Monday to tentatively delay the start of in-person classes by at least two weeks will not shut down either athletic practices or contests at this time, but will require more stringent protocols for monitoring and participation.

As teams get into their final week of conditioning next week an interesting dilemma can become a factor........say during next weeks workouts you have a positive covid case (and it is depending upon which day it happens). Whether you quarantine 7 days/14 days, etc.........you end up possibly losing players/coaches as we head into what used to be called "doubles" or what is now better referred to as mandatory practices. That being said each player needs 10 practices to be official. That can create some interesting scenarios as it relates to who play on game day. It becomes even more of a discussion if large groups have to quarantine and your team roster numbers are already on the low side. Covid cases during the 1st weeks of August (Mandatory Practices) will become even more interesting as now those 10 days of required practices will be crushed up against the actual 1st game.

Indianapolis Public Schools’ decision to delay the start of the school year by two weeks due to concerns over a recent spike in coronavirus cases will have an impact on athletics. IPS district athletic director Darren Thomas said Monday that IPS athletic programs would either cancel or postpone previously scheduled events until Aug. 29. On Saturday, IPS announced it was pushing back the start of the school year and athletic programming by two weeks to Aug. 17 with options for in-person and virtual classes. With IPS athletic programming also postponed until Aug. 17, Thomas said IPS football teams would either postpone or cancel the first two weeks of the season. Under Indiana High School Athletic Association rules, an athlete must participate in 10 practices before the first game. “I did talk to (new IHSAA commissioner Paul Neidig) and the 10-practice rule will still apply with the current circumstances,” Thomas said. “We will have to delay and postpone or cancel those contests for football and other fall sports.” Tech, the largest school in the state’s largest district, is scheduled to play IPS rival Washington on Aug. 21 and host Terre Haute North on Aug. 28 before starting play in the North Central Conference on Sept. 4 against Richmond. The other IPS programs affected would be Crispus Attucks, Manual, Shortridge and Washington. Thomas said there is a possibility the Week 2 games could be moved back a day to Aug. 29.
