University of Minnesota Food Service Worker Says 'Hello' in Japanese to Asian-American Student, Who Files a Bias Report: https://www.thecollegefix.com/campus-food-service-worker-hit-with-bias-complaint-after-saying-hello-to-student-in-japanese/ Ahh, the scourge of "microaggressions", aka "you hurt my widdle feelings, so I'm going to cry to somebody about it." Honestly college students, grow up. -
School Choice is Good For America; round 3

I don't want to live in the America you want to live in, Dante. Any individual who values freedom, personal responsibility and abhors authoritarianism would feel the same. -
https://reason.com/2019/06/18/oh-deer-3/ That would be nice, I would probably purchase some. Letting the products resulting from sports hunting and culls be sold on the open market is a smart idea, as the situation in Australia clearly demonstrates. And personally I have been involved in one deer/vehicle incident in my life, something I never want to repeat. If these polices reduce the deer population enough to reduce vehicle accidents involving the animal then it's a good policy.

School Choice is Good For America; round 3

Yes, the force of the state is the only way. And to the parents that do make their children attend government school due to threat of force the institution is nothing more than a baby sitting service. They don't give a hoot about education. What does the state do to counter that attitude, Dante? Make laws stating the parents will suffer legal repercussions if their child(ren) don't academically perform at certain. Force them to take government education seriously, is that the ticket? -
https://reason.com/2019/06/17/intersectionality-101/#comments Nice explanation by Mr. Soave. Insanity, all of it. As one of the comments to this story states: "All this essentially frivolous activist BS makes me proud–proud that other values, like personal liberties, free markets, rule of law, and some cliches like hard work and personal sacrifice, have created a modern industrialized life that is so easy and supportive for hundreds of millions of people. And it must be easy, or these thousands (millions?) of nut jobs would be busy trying to survive (if they exsited at all)."

US Women's Soccer Team - World Cup
Muda69 replied to swordfish's topic in Gridiron Out of Bounds's Out of Bound Forum
Perhaps Ms. Rapinoe doesn't really care about "expanding your marketshare", especially if doing so will violate her personal principals. As arguably one of the best players on the U.S. team should she be reprimanded or possibly removed from the team if her statements and actions hinder the possible expansion of said market share? -

Freedom of speech. Would you prefer Ms. Rapinoe to be a perfectly good little automaton, standing and singing the national anthem when requested in order to show glory to the state? Did she makes these statement while on the field of competition? -

Probably a good point. I still don't believe standing but choosing not to sing (or even mouth the words for that matter) the national anthem is some sort of political statement. -
https://mises.org/wire/ncaa-making-federal-case-out-private-rules-violations Actually, he is wrong. In 2005, federal prosecutors in Memphis successfully prosecuted the late Logan Young, a booster for the University of Alabama, for federal “crimes” related to his attempt to help recruit a prominent athlete to Alabama. In that case, federal prosecutors convicted Young of illegally withdrawing money and crossing state lines in order to commit bribery — even though there was no federal bribery statute to break, and no one had charged Young with breaking Tennessee state bribery laws. Although the latest set of prosecutions aimed at assistant basketball coaches is the first set of federal prosecutions for alleged NCAA violations, this round is much more ominous, as it gives federal prosecutors the green light to continue down this road, and we can expect prosecutors to expand their reach. Norlander is wrong about something else, or at least he is misleading. These prosecutions are not the result of Congress passing statutes regarding the policing of NCAA violations; in fact, Congress never has officially addressed this legal category in either civil or criminal law. Furthermore, while Evans officially was charged with “conspiracy to commit bribery,” there is NO federal bribery statute. Instead, federal prosecutors took it upon themselves to use existing federal criminal law and apply it in new categories, including one that has no authentic legal basis, something that should set off alarms in the legal community. Unfortunately, few people have protested this new incursion publicly. By these actions, federal prosecutors create de facto bills of attainder which the US Constitution forbids in Article I, Section 9. By refusing to enforce the Constitution, and by permitting federal prosecutors to break the law and endorsing their actions, US District Judge Edgardo Ramos has engaged in the kind of legal fraud that should immediately warrant his impeachment. ... If there is fraud anywhere in this sorry affair, it is committed by federal prosecutors, defense attorneys, federal judges, and journalists. Federal prosecutors charge individuals with violations of private rules governing private organizations that are bundled into federal conspiracy laws alleging the breaking of non-existent statutes, creating illegal bills of attainder in the process; defense attorneys pressure their clients into pleading to such legal abominations; judges look the other way and sign off on these Rube Goldberg charges, and then journalists report these actions as though they had legal and moral legitimacy. Unfortunately, people in the American media and the legal community are celebrating these actions as though they were major moral advancements of law. They are not. If putting people into prison and ruining their lives because they “broke” laws that didn’t exist (or “conspired” to break them) is a form of legal and moral progress, then the world truly is upside down and everything we knew to be true is a lie. A shameful expansion and abuse of federal government power. It needs to be stopped. What do our resident GID legal professionals think of this practice?

? How does choosing not to sing the national anthem at a sporting event equate to "venturing beyond their profession"? I would contend that the entire spectacle of the national anthem be removed from U.S. sporting events. It's for propaganda, nothing more. But I can understand a little while it is played at international events like the World Cup and Olympic games. -

I still don't understand how Ms. Rapinoe choosing not to sing the national anthem is offensive, since many, many athletes and coaches, at all levels of athletic competition, also choose not to sing. -

So catering to the target market means showing "max patriotism"? Is an NFL player standing but not singing along to the national anthem somehow a political statement?
