  1. Well, I'm sure what we're doing is within IHSAA rules. I would certainly hope so. It is mostly conditioning and drills. But there have been at least one or two sessions in pads.
  2. As far as I know, the prospect of shuffling guys on OL was just some discussion prior to OTAs. I don't know that anything has actually made its way into practices. I'd guess that, come fall, we'll mostly be seeing the same OL that we did last year. Also, some other MHS news is that Soph. WR/DB Tucker Tornatta isn't playing. Not sure why. He spent most of his freshman season recovering from an early torn ACL - so it could be that. He probably wouldn't have seen too many varsity reps this year. But he's 6'4" and athletic. So not a huge loss for '21 -- but potentially a big one for '22 and '23.
  3. You flipped the sides of the O-Line. And we’ll see a fair bit of Russell in the backfield. But other than that, I agree. There’s been some talk of mixing things up on the OL. Hurley supposedly wants to see Weinzapfel pulling. Not sure who else they’d put at center, tho. Look for Carac Johnson to see reps at end/slot. He’s probably the best athlete on the team, if he can keep that knee healthy.
  4. Barring an unforeseen change, yes. That will probably change the Tigers’ offensive approach. For one thing, Ellspermann is quick and elusive. He showed that a couple times against Castle. But he’s also a little on the shorter side and he’s got a few pretty tall OLers that he’ll have to get used to passing over. He’s reportedly very coachable and I’ve been told that his arm is developing, but pretty good. I’m curious to know who QB2 will be. Josh Russell? He’s played some QB in the past. Terrific athlete. But also critical on D. Aside from him, you might have to get into the freshmen.
  5. I’ve never pulled for another SIAC team to win a game quite as much as I did Bosse to beat Boonville a couple years ago in the Sectionals. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. I was surprised that Schnur left after that. Did not know he was pushed out. Dumb move.
  6. I was proud of the Bosse kids when we played them. The game was lopsided, but they never gave up. Effort looked about as strong toward the end as it did early on. Just to be out there battling like that is a kind of victory. Sadly, it’s too common these days for kids to either not come out or just formally or informally quit when the wins don’t happen. I hope this story isn’t true about Coach Ganaway.
  7. Branson’s such a gamer. Of course he was the one who caught the game-winner. Just throw it up — high and in his general vicinity. Six. If he was either a few steps faster or 2 inches taller, we’d be watching him on nationally televised games.
  8. I guess nobody picked up on this? Zirkelbach to Central has been an open secret for several weeks. Good pick!
  9. Too bad for Reitz it wasn’t real....probably would’ve improved their record this upcoming year! 😉
  10. McKay was the Frank Layden of football. Here’s another great McKay line: After receiving harsh criticism from the media about McKay's coaching skills in the NFL, McKay replies "You guys don't know the difference between a football and a bunch of bananas." In the next interview, members of the media left bananas for McKay. He then replied, "You guys don't know the difference between a football and a Mercedes Benz."
  11. It’s Glanville. And rumors of his death have been...greatly exaggerated. Jerry’s still kickin’ at 79!
  12. Was/is relocating even up to him? Usually these have to do with a parent relocating for work or other family matters. But sometimes it’s a student moving between parents/guardians, when they might have more say. Anyway, we can’t even be sure the kid was a better option than what we have. But I continue to believe that QB will be a question mark for Memorial. Somebody mentioned a couple incoming freshmen — those kids are great athletes who should be impact players at some point. But, let’s face it, probably not next year. As others have said, the SIAC should be a dogfight between MD, Memorial, and Castle. They each return lots of kids from pretty good teams. But you can never count Jasper out of anything.
  13. Seeing the write up in the C&P, I had forgotten that Frank was an assistant at Rex Mundi until the day they closed their doors. He coached Bob Griese in high school.
  14. Will coached during a great era of SIAC coaches: Will, Marsch, Weinzapfel, Hape, Owen, Lidy. Several of them are sadly no longer with us.
  15. Played against his teams back in the day. You always knew you were going to get a tough test from them. Got to know him a bit later on. He was a good man. RIP
  16. Well, Harrison isn’t near large enough to accommodate all or most of Bosse’s students. And Central and North are awfully far away. EVSC isn’t closing Bosse, nor should they. What a slap in the face that would be to the families in that area. And, on top of that, I’ve heard nothing but good things about what Aaron Huff and his staff and faculty have done there.
  17. Uh...what? Why would they do that? And where are kids from that area of town supposed to go...Harrison?
  18. Maybe OC Shawn Mooney? I would think, with 3 HCs in 4 years, they might be interested in some continuity. But I have no idea if Shawn would even apply.
  19. Yeah, I think that’s a huge question mark for the Tigers. I know that Ellspermann played a game and a half and did pretty well (including piloting a close win over Castle). But, for me, the jury’s still out on him. With two good RBs in Russell and Tyler back, and a solid O line that is all returning, I’m guessing we’ll see the Tigers run the ball more than they have in recent years.
  20. Heck no it won’t. MD is gonna be tough for the foreseeable future.
  21. Heh...I wish it was that easy. But you’re right — some people certainly think it is! 😊
  22. I agree with that. But you just hate having to develop one while so many of the rest of the pieces seem to be in place. But that’s one big way that HS football differs from college and pro.
  23. That was sorta the point. Never mind - just wondering if you heard the same thing I heard.
