  1. Arguably the best Warsaw Tiger football player in school history. The Sectional semi-final in 2001 between the 9-1 Snider Panthers and 10-0 Warsaw Tigers was one of the best high school football games ever played. As a Warsaw fan, obviously disappointed in that 23-20 overtime loss, but it truly was an awesome game.
  2. Obviously the games have to be played tonight, but it would be great to see Merrillville and Warsaw win tonight for the below story line in their potential Semi-State matchup. First, Warsaw has never won a Regional title. Last week was only their 2nd Sectional title in school history. Seeing them get their first Regional title tonight would be awesome. Second, Coach Brad Seiss is in his 10th year at Merrillville, with 7 Sectional titles and 4 Regional titles under his belt. However, the Pirates have yet to get over the Semi-State hump (0-4) and make it to Indianapolis on Thanksgiving weekend. How fitting would it be for Coach Brad Seiss to once again be 1 win away from a State Championship appearance, only to have to travel to his hometown of Warsaw and coach against his alma mater? I can only imagine the atmosphere at that game. But the Pirates and Tigers will have to take care of business first tonight.
  3. Yup, agreed. No one said smaller schools had to host either. I would imagine in this hypothetical world - only schools with big enough stadiums would be selected, and I doubt the IHSAA would TELL schools they had to host. They likely have the option to decline or not volunteer to do so.
  4. Ohio has done it FOREVER (not really forever, but for at least two decades) and that includes a school hosting a game while their team plays somewhere else potentially. If they have figured it out, surely Indiana could. I am pretty sure the host schools in Ohio agree with the OHSAA before the season starts that they'll commit to hosting various rounds. If their schools happen to be playing during that same round... I guess they figure out a way to make it happen. It's not like a high school gets reached out to on Saturday to host a game the following Friday. The school is already well aware before the season even starts that they'll be hosting X round(s) of playoff games.
  5. It's a fine venue for regular season Friday nights - but for a neutral site game - the visiting seating is not enough in my opinion. Not that every stadium has to have equal seating on both sides to qualify for this scenario, but it helps to have a bigger visitor seating section. Elkhart and Mishawaka would be great options due to those reasons. I am definitely on your side with this though - Ohio does neutral site games starting in the 3rd round of their tournament. I like the idea.
  6. Truly - a remarkable high school football game last Friday night. These conference rivals played in Week 5 on the same field, a game in which Warsaw got out to a 17-0 halftime lead, only to see Concord escape with an epic comeback 28-24 on a last second touchdown. That led to the Minutemen winning the NLC, having an undefeated regular season, and earn the #1 ranking in class 5A. Concord's athletes are no joke. People might look at the box score and think "wow - Warsaw dominated the time of possession 40:31 to 7:47" but... that doesn't do Concord justice. Darn near every time they touched the ball, they scored immediatedly. They only snapped the ball 20 times on offense on Friday night! And 4 of those snaps were as follows below: 1 snap was a QB kneel down before halftime 1 snap was a holding penalty 1 snap was a punt 1 snap was the desperation, final play of the game. Concord 1st drive - 5 plays, INT Concord 2nd drive - 2 plays, 79 yard TD run Concord 3rd drive - 0 plays, 93 yard kickoff return TD Concord 4th drive - 1 play, 73 yard TD run Concord 5th drive - 3 plays, fumble Concord 6th drive - 1 play, QB kneel down Concord 7th drive - 3 plays, punt Concord 8th drive - 2 plays, 54 yard TD run Concord 9th drive - 1 play, final play of the game Meanwhile - Warsaw almost perfectly executed "Bart Ball" with the exception of 1 fumble and I think 1 offensive penalty. They converted a handful of 4th downs to extend LONG drives, including the first drive of the second half that ate up over 10 minutes and then their final drive of the game to score the go ahead touchdown that ate up 9 minutes. People can complain about how boring that type of offense can be, but I disagree. When it is run nearly flawlessly, it is a joy to watch. The Tigers took advantage of a huge Concord turnover right before halftime that allowed them to only be down 21-17, when the Minutemen easily could have made it a 28-10 lead instead. Do yourself a favor and rewatch this classic. Sports Michiana, with northern Indiana legends Chuck Freeby, Bo Hundt, and Ang Di Carlo, called an excellent game. https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=1543571
  7. Warsaw would be a great option as well. I almost laughed when seeing Plymouth listed. But I agree with Penn being proper too. Maybe even Mishawka or Elkhart (but I haven't been to Elkhart in awhile and forget what their visiting section looks like).
  8. Sounds like the same as what happened a few miles north in Dunlap. Truly a fantastic game between Concord and Warsaw. The Minutemen have some SERIOUS athletes, and it showed. Everyone will look at the box score and say "wow - Warsaw dominated in the time of possession 40:13 to 7:47" but... While that is technically true, the Tigers also had the ball on offense so much because Concord basically scored at will when they had the ball. Concord 1st drive - 5 plays, throwing an INT on play #4 Concord 2nd drive - 2 plays, 79 yard TD run by Jaron Thomas (Concord led 7-0 with 6:54 left in Q1) Concord 3rd drive - 0 plays, 93 yard TD kickoff return by Char'rese Brevard (Concord led 14-7 with 9:05 left in Q2) Concord 4th drive - 1 play, 73 yard TD run by Char'rese Brevard (Concord led 21-10 with 2:36 left in Q2) Concord 5th drive - 3 plays, unforced fumble on play #3 (Concord led 21-10 with 0:58 left in Q2) TURNING POINT OF THE GAME - THE MINUTEMEN COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY GONE UP 28-10 AT HALFTIME - INSTEAD WARSAW SCORES WITH 0:35 LEFT IN Q2 TO MAKE IT 21-17 Concord 6th drive - 1 play, QB kneel down before halftime (Concord led 21-17 at halftime) Concord 7th drive - 4 plays, 3 & out then punt (Warsaw led 24-21 with 0:21 left in Q3) Concord 8th drive - 3 plays, 54 yard TD run by Jaron Thomas (Concord led 28-24 with 9:17 left in Q4) Concord 9th drive - 1 play, 40 yard multi-lateral, backyard desperation football play to end the game (Warsaw wins 31-28) Again - nothing but impressed with both teams. Concord had an amazing squad this year with some serious talent. The Tigers executed Bart Ball to almost perfection with 1 fumble, a few offensive penalties, but MULTIPLE 4th down conversions to keep those long drives alive. The Minutemen needed just 1 single stop (or no turnover before halftime), and they win the game. Highly recommend everyone watch this replay. https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=1543571
  9. Always love a @Slick John Picanos sighting - glad you're still here and posting! Excited for the two matchups this Friday night. It will be interesting to see if Warsaw's previous experience of already playing at Concord helps them. Vice versa, is there any chance that NorthWood playing at home can keep the game tighter than the regular season matchup that was AT Mishawaka.
  10. Sorry I have not been as active this season as years past. Fingers crossed Concord and NorthWood win this week to guarantee 2 NLC sectional champions. Always a shame this time of year, especially with Warsaw now in 5A, that all the conference is thrown into 2 sectionals. Back in the day when there were just 5 classes, it was nice when the NLC was spread across 3 classes, which allowed the opportunity for more sectional champions from our conference. No surprises last week as the 4A games went as excepted. Could potentially see a few better games this week, but it would be quite the surprise to not see Warsaw, Concord, Mishawaka, and NorthWood all win, which should set up for some great sectional championship games.
  11. Warsaw's starting QB was out of the game, and the Tigers suffered 5 fumbles on offense. That is taking nothing away from how well Plymouth played, but no team will win when they have that many turnovers. As well - Coach Curtis admitted as much in his post-game interview - I have no idea why Warsaw went for 2 points when they scored to take the lead with 2:45 left in the game. They were up 25-17, and an extra point would have made it a two possesion game. Instead, because Plymouth blocked two extra points earlier in the game, the Tigers went for 2 and did not get it. Ramirez is a heck of a QB for Plymouth and I think a 3 year starter. Congrats to the Rockies (they've earned to be called that by me now for at least a year).
  12. I just realize I haven't been posting - I've been reading the thread and many others on the forum - but haven't been responding. Concord should go 9-0 and likely be ranked #1 in 5A by the end of the season. Can't say I saw that at the beginning of the season, but congratulations to the Minutemen! Hoping to see a rematch between them and Warsaw, preferably for a sectional championship and not in the first round. The Pligrims have a heck of a gauntlet facing them the final four weeks of the season. They have their most wins in 5 seasons, but they might not pick up another. As well, if the Tigers can get past their US 30 rivals Friday, they have a challenging final 3 weeks of the season. Someone picks up a win this week in Syracuse. Last week I would have likely told you the Warriors would win this game, but after getting shut out at the Rock Pile. Coach Thacker went winless in year 1 at Fairfield as well, before the Falcons improved drastically in years 2 and 3. Hoping the Wawasee faithful can hold strong and buy in to the coaching staff and offensive scheme. I would go with Goshen winning an ugly game this week. Can anyone sell me on a reason why the Panthers can upset Concord and make the NLC race REALLY interesting over the last 3 weeks? Any insights into the Raiders this year? They have faced a strong schedule, but still surprised to see them sitting at 1-4 with 1-5 looking like a real possibility and a 6-loss regular season record for the first time since the 2018 season when they went 2-7.
  13. I am hoping someone can provide insights into the ending of that Mishawaka and Concord game! I was following along on Twitter, and don't have an Elkhart Truth subscription to read the follow up article. Based on Twitter this is my recap of the game. Anyone that can give more details, I'd certainly love to hear them! - Mishawaka jumped out to a 14-7 lead after Q1 - Then, Concord went on a 21-0 run to take a 28-14 lead after Q3 - Both teams scored in the first half of Q4, with Concord leading 35-20 with only 4:37 remaining in the game - Mishawaka scores with 1:13 left in the game, and gets the 2pt conversion, making it 35-28 - Mishawaka AGAIN scores with 24 seconds left, but the conversion fails, and Concord wins 35-34 Was it a missed PAT? Or did the Cavemen go for 2 points, and the win? How did Mishawaka get the ball back after the TD with 1:13 left in the game? Onside kick? Or quick 3 and out? Thank you!
  14. Went 6-2 last week and now 11-5 on the year. Very impressive win by the Caveman last week, while the Panthers let one get away. Meanwhile, the Tigers took a licking against one of Indiana's finest programs, and the Raiders slipped to 0-2 on the season for the first time since 2016. Onto the conference season, with a big one out of the gate. Goshen (0-2) at Warsaw (1-1): As others have said, this one will likely be a running clock. Hoping that both teams remain healthy WARSAW BY 42 Mishawaka (2-0) at Concord (2-0): Game of the week for sure in the conference and one of the best in the state. Concord has looked impressive, but the Cavemen have played better opponents. MISHAWAKA BY 12 Northridge (0-2) at Plymouth (1-1): Pilgrams came back to earth last week, and the Raiders are searching for some consistent offense. I think they find it this week, but could find themselves in a dog fight at the Rock Pile. NORTHRIDGE BY 4 Wawasee (0-2) at NorthWood (1-1): The Warriors are another team struggling to find offense, and they will be facing a Panther's team who likely practiced angry this week. That's not a good scenario to be walking into. NORTHWOOD BY 35
  15. Went 5-3 with the picks last week, some nice wins by Concord and Plymouth that I did not expect, and disappointing losses by Northridge, Goshen and Wawasee. This week looks to be a fairly tough slate for the NLC. Side note - Plymouth has 6 home games this year. Will they only have 3 home games next year?! Here we go looking into Week 2. Columbia City (1-0) at Plymouth (1-0): Impressive win by the Pilgrims last week with their most points scored in a game since the 2019 season. Perhaps they will push for a middle-of-the-pack finish in the NLC this season. However, unless the Columbia City bus gets lost in Blueberry Festival traffic, this week will be a step up in competition. Is Plymouth a contender or pretender? I'm going with the Eagles. COLUMBIA CITY BY 28 Concord (1-0) at Jimtown (0-1): Again, another team with an impressive win last week in a dogfight. Can the Minutemen challenge for an NLC title this year? That will be answered in September. I do not forsee any issues here against their backyard rival. The Jimmies have lost 5 straight in this series. CONCORD BY 10 New Prairie (1-0) at Goshen (0-1): The Redhawks have lost to Fairfield by a combined two-year score of 84-23... yikes! This week will be big in seeing what kind of moral and grit Goshen has. Can they put up any sort of fight against the Cougars? If not, it will be yet another long season in the Maple City. NEW PRAIRIE BY 35 Northridge (0-1) at Elkhart (0-1): The Raiders could not hang with a dynamic FW North Side team last week in a bit of surprise, at least to this NLC fan. I am expecting this one to potentially be a low scoring affair. This series is split 1-1 over the last two years, with the home team winning each game. I'll stick with the Lions. ELKHART BY 7 Penn (1-0) at Mishawaka (1-0): The Cavemen open up the turf field at Steele Stadium against thier longtime, backyard rival. The Kingsmen had arguably one of the most impressive victories in the state in week 1 over Valparaiso. Both teams scored a lot of points last week. Who's defense shows up? My heart wants the NLC team, but my head says otherwise. PENN BY 10 Portage (1-0) at NorthWood (1-0): Another team breaking in new field turf, the Panthers welcome in a 6A foe to Nappanee. Portage has been down in recent years, but they've got a heck of a Head Coach looking to get things turned around. I think this game could potentially be a challenge for NorthWood, but they will still pull out the victory. NORTHWOOD BY 14 Warsaw (1-0) at Warren Central (1-0): I truly can't believe this game actually is on the schedule. I never thought in a million years I would see the Tigers face off against one of the big dogs from the Indianapolis area. "Bart Ball" can keep any team in a game, but the Warriors are tough this year and shut out FW Snider last week. They also held the Panthers to like 1 yard per carry or something. They are STOUT. I have no doubt Coach Curtis will have the boys ready, but there is only so much talent that can be overcome. Great challenge for Warsaw. WARREN CENTRAL BY 21 West Noble (1-0) at Wawasee (0-1): Not much went right last week for the Warriors, and this week they take on a Chargers team that has defeated them in three straight seasons. Hopefully Wawasee can find the endzone a few times this week, but I am not sure they have enough to get the victory. WEST NOBLE BY 28
  16. Ha! That one isn't a typo from the Facebook source I copied from. That is exactly how it's showing on JH's site as well. What's wild is that vast difference between the AP and IFCA polls in 2A this week. These are all the teams and where they are ranked in each: IFCA Poll Ranking / AP Poll Ranking #1 Lutheran - #1 in AP #2 LCC - #2 in AP #3 Eastern Hancock - #4 in AP #4 Heritage Christian - #9 in AP, possible typo #5 North Posey - #3 in AP #6 Heritage Christian - #9 in AP, possible typo #7 Linton - #7 in AP #7 Andrean - #14 in AP #9 Adams Central - #19 in AP #10 Southmont - #6 in AP #11 Western Boone - #10 in AP #12 Eastbrook - no votes in AP #13 Scecina - no votes in AP #13 Lapel - #11 in AP #13 South Vermillion - no votes in AP #13 Tell City - #19 in AP Then you look at teams ranked in the AP poll that received no votes in the IFCA poll #5 Brownstown Central, #7 Triton Central, #12 Bluffton, #13 Rochester, #14 Alexandria, #16 Centerville, #16 Paoli, #18 Monrovia - all teams receiving votes (including two RANKED) that received not a single vote in the IFCA poll. My best guess is one of those Heritage Christian spots is supposed to be iether Brownstown Central or Triton Central.
  17. I didn't catch those - I copied and pasted from a source on Facebook because it was easier thank copying and pasting from JH's site.
  18. Believe me when I say, I am far from a fan of the Penn Kingsmen - but how can they beat an IFCA Coaches' poll previously ranked 5A #3 Valparaiso team - and then not get at least 1 single vote in 6A this week? Meanwhile, Valparaiso only falls a spot to #4 in 5A. I get that polls are meaningless, but wild to me that coaches would still rank Valpo so high, but not give any love whatsoever to Penn.

  20. Not sure I will be able to provide super insightful write ups early this season. I think there are a lot of question marks for the teams expected to battle for the NLC crown, and new faces on the sidelines for teams who have been in the NLC gutter the last few years. Elkhart at Concord - A lot of hype for the Lions this year. Going with my former Anderson University Raven teammate in his first game as a head coach and the D1 talent on their team. ELKHART by 7 Fairfield at Goshen - A matchup of new coaches for their respective schools, but I will go with the squad who has a "veteran" coach and won two matchups in a row. FAIRFIELD by 2 FW North Side at Northridge - The Redskins Legends feel like they have a lot of hype yet again, but the Raiders went to Fort Wayne and got the victory last year. Can't imagine many of those North Side students have ever ventured into Amish territory. NORTHRIDGE by 14 Michigan City at Warsaw - Many folks are picking the Tigers to win the NLC this year, but they have a lot of new faces replacing key positions. Bart Ball goes as the QB goes, and I think they have a good one. WARSAW by 14 Mishawaka at Marian - The Knights are expected to be improved this year, but they have lost the last 3 meetings in this rivalry by an average of almost 5 touchdowns. MISHAWAKA by 21 NorthWood at Jimtown - Speaking of rivalries, this one used to be competitive. However, the Jimmies haven't defeated the Panthers in over a decade. Pretty shocking honestly. Panthers graduated a lot from their state runner-up squad, but should have no issues in Baugo. NORTHWOOD by 21 Twin Lakes at Plymouth - Going purely off coaching pedigree here. I cannot forsee the Indians struggling in their visit to the Rock Pile. TWIN LAKES by 28 Wawasee at Tippecanoe Valley - The Warriors join the Tigers and Cavemen in running the TMT/Bart Ball offense in the NLC under new Coach Matt Thacker. Honestly, it will probably help keep the Warriors more competitive than they have been in recent years. The Vikings lose a lot from an outstanding 2023 squad that the IHSAA screwed when making up that sectional grouping. Wawasee faces quite a guantlet to start the season with Tippy Valley (9-1 last year), West Noble (10-1 last year), NorthWood (12-3 last year) and Warsaw (9-2 last year). If they can hang tough through that stretch, they might find a way to win 3 games this season, but this one on the road won't be one of them. TIPPECANOE VALLEY by 14
  21. You know - I can't say I made it up - but I am not finding the source. I swear I saw this posted on an official Twitter account associated with Warsaw Athletics and/or Warsaw Football. Perhaps I am full of crap! The Warsaw/Michigan City game enters its 6th year, and the Warsaw/Warren Central matchup is a 2 year deal. Maybe the Ben Davis matchups are after the Warren Central contract and I'm getting my teams mixed up. I am pretty sure the Michigan City contract is up after this year, and Warsaw and Fort Wayne Snider will play in Week 1 in the 2025 and 2026 seasons. So perhaps Ben Davis will replace Warren Central in Week 2 of the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
  22. Never in a million years did I expect Warsaw to face Warren Central or Ben Davis on the football field. That is definitely one of the areas that Coach Curtis immediately upgraded (and rose the expecations of/for) Tiger football. Don't get me wrong, Columbia City (4A) has had a nice run recently, and East Noble (4A) is no slouch of a program, but under Bart, Warsaw has upgraded their out of conference schedule significantly. Michigan City (5A) has been a great series, a single game against perennial Ohio Division I contender Dublin Coffman, and (at the time the series was scheduled) 6A foe Chesterton. Now with Warren Central, Ben Davis, and FW Snider in coming years... that is no joke of an out of conference schedule.
  23. And then I believe after this home and home with Warren the next two years, the Tigers have a home and homes with Ben Davis and Fort Wayne Snider in the 2026 and 2027 seasons 😲
  24. I will be interested to see how Warsaw does these next two years (and possibly beyond) in class 5A. The Tigers have always been in the largest class since the start of class football moving to 5 classifications in 1985 (and then 6A in 2013) and were always included in a sectional grouping that had either Indiana High School perinnial powers Penn or Fort Wayne Snider (sometimes BOTH!). The only exception was a 4 year run from 2013-2016 when they were grouped with Carroll, Homestead and Northrop. Now Warsaw moves into a Sectional grouping featuring an NLC conference duo of Concord and Goshen joined by, usually, a middle of the road SAC squad Fort Wayne North Side. Then, if they can win that sectional, a regional matchup against Kokomo, Lafayette Jeff, McCutcheon, or South Bend Adams would await. No disrespect to any of those programs, but none mentioned are not up to the level of competitiveness as a Penn or Snider (or Carroll or Homestead for that matter), let alone potential regional opponents like Carmel, Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Crown Point, Merrillville or Valparaiso over the last decade. I'm not saying the Tigers have a cakewalk to a Semi-State appearance whatsoever, but these next 2 years are as good an opportunity as they have ever had in the history of their program. Here's to hoping they can do it!
