    Monday was last chatter

    Today is now THURSDAY!!!

    So disappointing!!!

I would assume Pirates have the Speed factor in their favor, but Chatard is no slouch in that deptartment.    Trojans are known for their discipline and very much blue collar in your face brand of ball, but have spread it out some more under Coach Doyle.

Pirates have been blessed with some new players making their way into their hallways and are firing on all cylinders it would seem.

    I am going Pirates 21 Trojans 10  WHY?:   Because I am a card carrying REGION RAT!!!    #219Pride   #northoftheriver  #IpayLakeCountyTaxes  :classic_biggrin:

That seems about right, coach. Low-scoring.

Merrillville can handle a spread attack and still attack the QB.   The Pirates occasionally stop themselves...with fumbles and penalties but its going to be tough for Chatard to score on offense.

I dont think Merrillville has trailed at any time this year so if the Trojans score first, the mood may be new for them.

But I dont think this is an even match.

I won a game last year 38-36 after being down 30-6 at the half. The game had everything. Our 300 lb. Punter took off for a 19 yard gain. Our FB hit our QB for a 40 yard bomb halfway through the 3rd quarter. Shortly after that we lost the QB for the season with a torn ligament. Our freshman QB came in and actually scored the winning TD on a 5 yard QB keeper right up the middle. I think there was just under a minute left when that happened. It was his first varsity carry.

A 32-0 second half....no overtime.    That is incredible. What schools?

I thought every game was precious. After all, that's supposedly why we have an all in tournament, so we won't "deny" anyone the chance to play one more game.

Nobody ever got better from an open week. They have, however, gotten better even after a long road trip and a loss, by testing yourself against the kind of team Chatard always is.

That's one way of looking at it. To me, the goal is to win the sectional. Whatever the sport.  Doesnt matter whether you play 5 regular season games or 9.

Unless Chatard's offense is similar to Jefferson's, (Jeff is in Merrillville's 6A Sectional 1) I would not take the injury risk especially in the virus year.

Of all the “big game” atmospheres I worked in — tournament or regular season — The Inferno was my favorite. A great “high school” feel to it. Rabid hometown fans. Teams that play a physical, emotionally intense brand of football. Their 2009 semistate against Bishop Dwenger was the best game atmosphere I can recall experiencing in 40 years on the field.

I should add, no disrespect to Coach Kilmer who has done a great job, but much of the credit for the way the Lowell program has become one of the premier programs in the Region has to go to Kirk Kennedy.

Obviously that's true.....when Coach Kennedy came..Lowell hadnt had a winning season for 25 years.....

..but coach Kilmer's first four years were 22-18..and he's 65-20 the last six years......at a public school.

Its 10 years now........the present success of Lowell is all on the present coaching staff....

I did tell you RDP is back...

Lowell played to win, KV played to not lose.

    Gip;  You'll like this.

Last week, I was going to see Lowell-Hobart but it was cancelled because of the virus.

This week, I was thinking about going to see CP-Valpo but it was cancelled because of the virus.

So I'm at Lowell-KV and its 21-0 KV no contest at the half...and Im standing on the track between the boys and the cheerleaders thinking 'What am I doing here???

Standing in the middle of about 70 teenagers......I'm 1,000 years old...any one of them could give me the virus...and then instead of watching the Devils...next month....I'll be watching the 'Angels' play.

I had never seen a high school team down 21 at the half..come back to win......and Lowell was playing some numbers I didnt recognize..because they had kids on 'virus vacation'

..and mumbling through my face mask....I'm talking to myself.........'What are you still doing here????

...and then they kicked off the second half...//.

Armani Glass and Cincinnati bound speedster JoJo Johnson will need to carry Merrillville in this one. The Pirates having D-1 recruits sprinkled across the lines won’t faze a disciplined team like Chatard that is a factory for line play.

Anyone know if Jr. Merrillville RB Lavarion Logan was at at Joliet Catholic last year? Name sounds familiar.

I’ll take Chatard by about 7.

    Boiler..

    The way I understand it.....

Logan was at Merrillville as a freshman and Joliet Catholic as  sophomore...yes..you are right

KV must be heartbroken over this loss

Amazing game, DT......21-0 is a ton.  KV outgained Lowell 127-0 in the first quarter (that is real....127-0) ....

But KV kicked off to Lowell's top RB and he ran the second half kickoff back for a TD.

KV's got a very good kicker and they had the ball tied 21-21 with 2:00 left but they fumbled on a second down play before they could attempt the kick. Lowell took the lead with 39 seconds left.

KV is bigger and more experienced and Lowell was shorthanded (Lowell was short 10 varsity players due to the virus...they canceled last week) but Lowell somehow had the better team at the end.....

...also..Lowell is a difficult place to play.....its like an old school football theatre....and when things start going against you....its hard to stop the rally.

Lowell (5-0) vs. No.1 Andrean on Oct. 16. Gonna be a showdown.

2012 Gibson Southern trailed Charlestown in regionals 49-21 At half and won 56-49.

At the time it was the largest comeback in state history I believe

I also recall that 2/3 years after this Game Center grove pulled off a larger comeback to win.

A lot of folks 'thought' they remembered 'something like that' by they (and I) look back and find out it wasnt really true.

    Down 21....won in regulation....

Gibson outscored Charleston 35-0 in the second half after trailing by 4 TDs....????

    That's the mountain top 'Y'

  9.          Last Friday (9-25-20) Kankakee Valley led Lowell 21-0 at the half and Lowell won 28-21 in regulation time.

I am surprised that I cant find a time when Lowell came from 21 points behind to defeat anyone and I wonder how rare it is.

Do you remember a high school team trailing by 21 at the half and winning in regulation without kicking a field goal?

2006 Warren Central beat everybody by 20 points or more..

Do 2006 WC vs. 2020 CG.

    Can you do pre-tourney teams.?

1960 Hammond high (10-0) was the mythical state champ.

Gave up 33 points all season.

Do 2020 CG vs. 1960 Hammond high

Agree.  Once we're within 2 weeks of sectional I really think coaches need to start taking a hard look at who they REALLY need out there.  Put your 3 deep chart together and ride with those players.  The bigger your team, the more likely COVID will take you out instead of an opponent.

Would be horrible for seniors to have to forfeit due to the 3rd string punter testing positive.

You make an interesting point.  Small schools need all hands on deck but larger ones might separate anyone who can possibly play on the varsity this year from the very young freshman and JV boys who would never see the field under any scenario.

I dont think I've seen the usual 4 or 5 ball boys on the sidelines at games this year ....  its probably not because they can be annoying little short attention span brats but because everybody is a virus risk.

  12.

Positive Covid-19 virus test at Valpo.        Valpo loses the game with Crown Point and the one with Merrillville.

Biggest game in many years up here.....Valpo has long regular season and DAC winning streaks...

Both teams have multiple D-1 senior players.

There will be no playoff meeting obviously.   (last weeks cancelled Lowell-Hobart game could happen in 4A Sectional 17)

.....I'm more worried about positive tests next month which would end teams seasons.

.......What can I say?    Play each game like its your last, kids.

    Lafayette to St. John 85m

    Lafayette to Merrillville 81m

    Lafayette to Crown Point 79m

    Lafayette to Munster 94m

Let's get crazy and go with this Super Conference:

    Big 14 West:

Lake Central, Merrillville, Crown Point, Jeff, McCutcheon, Harrison, Munster

    Big 14 East:

Portage, Valpo, Chesterton, LaPorte, Michigan City, Penn, Elkhart

You get your wish with Munster, who can compete in every sport besides football, finally joining the "Duneland" members.

6 Division games, 1 crossover, 1 "Championship Week" similiar to what the Hoosier does, 1 OOC game.

The problem is the time zones.... The present-day DAC is all in the same time zone.

There's no incentive for Merrillville, LC, CP and Munster to travel into the Eastern time zone in 20 IHSSA sports/

    How would they benefit?

Now if we had 'virtual sports' where kids stayed home and played each other in cyber space without ever going outdoors. .

    Then this could go!!!!
