  1. I entered the journalist field today and called some more super duper creditable sources in western Vigo county. This source states that due to multiple players’ exposure and subsequent two additional practices with the team at PH, the WV nurse recommended to pull the plug. It’s appears that OldSchool sources have him on par as the modern day Bob Woodward (history lessons are free....). He broke the story and wins the day. Free beers at Mecca tavern with your steak (not a tenderloin).
  2. Not sure that’s accurate. It’s WV’s homecoming and not too happy about the cancellation. Per a super duper reliable source.
  3. Agreed. SV might actually be living up to the hype after playing little brother to a 1A school just north of them for Barrett’s entire tenure. Although, if they don’t win the sectional this year, does SV really consider this season a success? There’s several schools in this conference that shell out a ton of money in salary, staff expense and resources to win at football and in the last 5 years only NV has cashed in on that money invested.
  4. Different coach. Coach Good resigned after last season. The staff is similar from his group, but it’s a new head coach. And let’s be honest, this alleged canceling due to competition doesn’t happen without the AD’s consent. In fact, in most schools, the AD would make that call or deny the coach’s request to cancel, unless that coach yielded significant power to call his own shots and/or cancel games that the AD scheduled.
  5. Making their non-conference schedule tougher doesn’t help them in the short term as most schedule changes take 1-2 years to take effect. At that point, C Johnson will be a senior, N Johnson will be graduateD and the hall of famer and staff will have a foot out the door, based on the talent they have grades 3-8. In essence, you’re scheduling tougher teams to pummel the post-Moore era teams and start the cycle all over again. As someone said earlier, it will be Herb-to-Batty coaching change, only the 2.0 version.
  6. D1 QBs don’t lose to teams in the Wabash valley, nor score 13 points in a game against lesser talent on D. For him, I hope he starts four years in college and gets drafted in the NFL, but FCS, BIg Ten, SEC etc don’t line up in this conference and get beat. I would argue that last’s year QB at PH, White, was better and played within his offense much better and is a great D3 fit.
  7. There’s no D1 athletes playing American football all in the WRC right now. No one in this group that isn’t super fanboy or a coach that wears a visor generating hype for his team would disagree. Good D3 kids, yes. D1- negative. And the answer to your question is zero, from my knowledge. Maybe a player or two from the Rockville days are ISU, but Josh Smith from Attica is the last one I recall that played D1.
  8. Crabtree’s dislike for RP? Can you dislike a team that appears to have never beaten you? He was unavailable to coach against them last year. Max Preps scores show the staff had no issue handling business without him.
  9. Lol. You’re right, Donnie. My unnamed sources tell me there’s been a formal request made to the ISHAA to exchange the SV game for Edinburgh and replace South Putnam in the sectional for Eastern Green. And if you believe that, you’ll believe that The Visor hasn’t sent film to officials prior to games this year too. All in fun, fellas. Next week we start to get some really competitive games and maybe we can leave PH cupcake schedule and SV editing studio alone.
  10. Ok thanks. Isn’t their coach the old SV coach? Ultimately, it appears it will be them or PH that gets a date with Lutheran in the regional. Can coaches reschedule or cancel those games too?
  11. Things do change! Does this mean we may see a request to exchange Eastern G for South Putnam in the sectional? It could happen. Running clocks for everyone....
  12. I know this isn’t exactly Week 5 WRC material, but does anyone know anything about South Put? They are the sleeper team in the 1A sectional this fall with the other WRC schools and Cloverdale and worth watching as the season continues. It appears they are pretty solid with big wins over their opponents. I’d pay admission to watch PH play SP in week 1 of the sectional.
  13. Week 5 Predictions PH 65 vs EG 6. I take back everything I’ve said about the Hall of Famer leaving when the talent runs dry at PH. At this rate and the level of competition in the WRC, there’s no reason to leave..... ever. I was surprised what PH did to Carrol and this week will be even worse. Steamroll for the Wolves. C Johnson continues his record setting pace. Bring on Seeger and SV - Two must-watch games FC 21 vs Attica - 14 - Is Attica playing yet or saving themselves for sectionals? If this game gets played, the Mustangs break out the split back Veer like the late 90’s and run over the Ramblers. RP 15 - NV 7. It’s the battle of street clothes. Which team can get their players out of street clothes and onto the field first? The single wing vs the double wing offense. There’s no need for a running clock in this game, as neither team will pass and the team with the fewest mistakes will win. RP gets a W with Cloverdale and North Central in the next two weeks. NV takes the L with Attica (maybe) next week and the Wolves the following week, looking for revenge x2 from 2019. Seeger 40 - Covington 30 - Seeger appears to be who we thought they would be. And the Trojan continue to surprise many, as they will score points and make teams play them tough. Seeger is too talented and balanced. Bring on the D1’s. I cannot wait for that game. Sullivan 20 vs D1’s 42 - I know the first poster said the big brother complex is still there, but not anymore. With the state-of-the-art video editing studio the SV coach had built to auto-text player clips to officials, there’s no way the D1’s lose this game. This non-conference game ends with the JV on the field and the varsity in the film room prepping for PH next week. That game will be worth the price of admission.
  14. I don’t disagree. I think many would argue that the SV school board has taken their own direction in how they handle the pandemic vs other schools, including sports. If it can be done safely (including telling other teams prior to games of a potential COVID case), then keep kids active. For many in the area sports are the most structure they see throughout their day. Hey Cheapseats - you seem to have a grasp on the inner workings at SV. Can you please confirm what I heard recently that the D1’s coach actually sends clips and film to officials on game weeks to give them a heads up on players? I hope this isn’t true. Or maybe it is and more coaches do it than I’m aware of.
  15. I’m not sure about about how upset schools are, but if SV knew of positive cases prior to a game and didn’t at least tell the opposing teams administrators, then any frustration is justified. That issue becomes healthy and safety, not football. I’ve also heard a rumor that the D1 coach is known to text and email clips of plays and players to officials prior to games to “be aware of”. Can someone confirm this rumor? Is this trying to gain a petty advantage, looking out player safety or exactly what a D1 coach does?
  16. New week, new thread Week 4, here we go. NV 0 Linton 35 - COVID, injuries, etc. Whatever it is at NV isn’t good. The single wing offense is in full force playing Linton this week. Linton rolls. PH 35 - Carrol (Flora) 28 - With Attica being down kids, the Wolves watched enough film on the Carrol Cougars to accept the game. Will C. Johnson continue his pace to break all of L. White’s records and how soon will it happen? Is this the first true test for the Wolves and can they stop the ground game of Carrol? SV vs North Central - Another stout non-conference game for the 2A South Vermillion University. You have to feel back for the T-birds losing both their QB and RB to injuries for the season. More importantly, will SV get to play due to COVID. And from what was written and told, did they withhold telling RP about the positive cases until after their game Saturday? Was that the “revenge” another user said SV would get This past week or was that the “business decision” coaches make as another user put it. If played, SV rolls in a sleeper. 3 weeks until their matchup with PH to determine the conference championship. Seeger vs RP - It appears the COVID hangover for the fighting Herbs is over. COVID continues to hammer RP’s roster, I’ve heard. When will RP get back many of their kids to find out who they really are? Seeger takes this one and marches on to games against Cov and FC the following two weeks. The first two games of Oct will give us an indication of how good Seeger is - Sheridan and SV back-to-back weeks. And continued fingers crossed both PH and Seeger get an open date together just so they have to commit or decline. Covington vs FC - It was surprising to see the Trojans put up 50 on the Falcons. And I’m not mad they passed a little up 20+ in the 4th. Turn about is fair play and the Falcon have put their share of beatings on the conference on the last few years. The Trojans look for a small win streak with another win, only this time over the Mustangs and their triple option attack. At 0-1 and maybe no game next week vs Attica, I don’t see a win on their schedule given SV, Seeger, PH and NV await them in the coming weeks
  17. My predictions - NV 20 vs Cov 12 - Coach Crabtree becomes the king of the single wing and gets in the win column vs the Trojans. Every team that has been impacted by Covid is winless and the steak stops Friday. PH 51 vs NC 15 - Until the SV game arrives, it doesn’t appear we will know how good the Wolves really are with NC this week, Attica and Eastern Green the next two. How many TD will C Johnson have and how soon will he break all the QB records at PH? The Wolves stop throwing after a lead of 50+ and run away with this game against a COVID returning T-Birds team Frontier 42 FC 0 This is a complete guess as to how this game turns out. Flip the coin - Frontier dominates the Mustangs in their COVID return Jay County 6 Seeger 50 Herb’s boys return to a full week of practice following their loss to Twin Lakes and dominate Jay County in a rebound win. The next big test for the Patriots will be Sheridan and SV in back to back weeks in October. Can we make the Seeger-PH game happen? Based on how crazy this season has been, it could happen RP 20 SV 48 The University of SV continues their streak in the 2020 season and beats an RP team coming off their loss to Attica. The COVID effect is real and the Wildcats get the Panthers on a short week. SV gets North Central next week as a tune up to Sullivan, followed by PH the next week Many teams are returning from either COVID off weeks or getting a full week of practice after a loss following a COVID quarantine. How will they respond? How will the Falcon respond? And how many games will be canceled or rescheduled Stay tuned
  18. Twin Lakes 42 Seeger 15. That was quite a surprise. Maybe the COVID effect on practices is real based on Seeger and NV. Will the trend continue with FC and RP?
  19. I’m not sure which schools have fall sports other than football. Schools go through cycles of athletes in 1A. Some schools also overcommit to winning at football with hefty salaries to coaches and schedules and staff that fit their requests. Others school wouldn’t think to pay a coach $70k to only teach weights and coach football. But to my point above, this is why the local legendary coaches come and go so often. They aren’t willing to coach through talent gaps. Nobody wants to lose, but it’s easy to understand why a coach like Crabtree (if NV is really as bad as people want them to be) or the RP or Covington coach are to win again, people will appreciate it. There’s zero doubt that guys like Barrett, Herb and Moore are great coaches. They’ve won at every school they’ve been to. But give them a couple years and they’ll be gone. And not coincidentally, the level of talent will be too, thus leaving the next coach to have 1-2 win seasons and people tossing the ball on them up 40-50 points.
  20. It’s not just PH, it’s many schools that have talent gaps vs their opponents, especially in the WRC. The worst part is the coaches that do it never stick around to see the other side of the beaten. Just as the talent level is about to run out, the leave for another school, leaving the new coach with the responsibility of taking a beating as payback for the previous years. Rarely do you see a coach like Crabtree remain loyal in the down years and take his lumps similarly to how he gave them. It’s not a coincidence why many feel Coach Good resigned or Herb left Rockville or the hall of famer left FC. Just look at the teams and talent they left and the results the following years. It’s a time-tested tradition in the WRC. If this is truly a down year for NV (and i don’t think it will end up being so) kuddos to Coach Crabtree for seeing it through. And this is why many root for the coaches at Covington to pull it together and win or at RP to finally turn the corner one day. Lord knows they’ve taken some of our a$$ beatings over the years and would relish a shot to throw the ball up 40. (Even if it is a 20 yard pass by a player with 6 TD to an all-state WR,.... as you say) But in reality, they probably wouldn’t throw in that situation. They’d either have their JV in to get reps or run the ball to milk the clock.
  21. Is this the same school throwing the ball up 40 that wouldn’t play a bigger school because of the talent difference? That’s the WRC style.
  22. No, the all-state PH QB graduated. His replacement is a sophomore and very talented.
  23. The WRC had two QB’s commit and will play D3 football this year in college. Logan White is most likely the best of the two as a true QB. I think he’s as good as the SV QB. But, I believe there’s a lot of internal pressure at SV based upon the expectations set by the staff and local media. In reality, many of the posts have quite a bit of sarcasm regarding the D1 talent. The TE would make a great D3 weapon. D1? Not so sure. Same with the QB. As a big 2A school in a 1A conference, they should dominate, but they haven’t. It’s all about getting through the sectional that includes Seeger and more importantly, Western Boone. That’s why they pay the coach 70k a year at a 2A school - to win!
  24. I stand corrected. 2-11 since the 09-10 season. Regardless, with 25 D1 athletes on the roster, the post season is all that matters. Maybe a rematch up the upcoming Seeger game? Maybe a date with Western Boone in round 1. Whatever the situation, they have to feel some pressure at SV to escape the sectional, right?
