Westfield has 2400 students and a free and reduced rate well under 20 percent.
CG roughly the same amount of students and a free and reduced rate of just over 20 percent.
That's how.
And the bottom 8 schools in 6A?
But to be clear, I don’t find your theory absolute. Lots of variables in the equation for success.

Six of the eight teams are legitimate contenders in my opinion. It's about increasing the probability of reaching the state finals. Were basically giving eight teams a better chance by allowing them to play similar sized schools..........the same opportunity given to schools in classes 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A.
I respect your opinion. We disagree that they 75% of those schools are title contenders in 5A. That's cool.
Westfield played in the state title game last year in 6A. Yet they less than 100 students larger than the first of your 8 schools to be moved down, and <300 from the smallest 6A school. (based upon enrollment) CG won the title last year in 6A with <500 from the smallest 6A school. (based on enrollment) How do you explain this?
There are 3 large 6A schools that tend to win or play for state titles on a consistent basis. Isn't this really about running from the outliers?
BTW, thanks for the discussion....this is an interesting topic and I do appreciate your thoughts.

Do I really have to explain it for the tenth time? Did you read this entire thread?
Good post. The IHSAA would make that final decision.
I sense your frustration...be nice.
Yes I read the entire thread...maybe you just haven't made the sale.
Question...of these bottom 8 6A teams, how many currently would be in the running for a 5A state championship and 6A holds them back from being a contender. If we agree that this is a small list (very small), is this about inceasing the probability for a sectional title? Just curious.

The three largest schools winning 15 of the last 20 big school championships isn't just coincidence.
So mess with 6A because of outliers? How does dropping 8 schools out of 6A solve this?

The # of mega schools in the state is growing.
When Class 6A was implemented, there were 5 schools with 3000 plus enrollment, BD/WC/CA/NC/Penn
Today you can add the following schools to the 3000 enrollment list, with a few just a hundred or so short of reaching that milestone :
HSE/Fishers/Lake Central/Noblesville/Pike/Avon/Brownsburg/Crown Point
4 or 5 of the schools on that list feel they have what it takes to grab at title away from The Big 4. Schools in the 2500-2900 range are going to have to become football factories like Center Grove if they expect to compete with the Super Megas.
Are you sure?....I am counting 8 schools in 2013 when 6A was implemented. Carmel has certainly grown. They were #2 at that time.
https://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Football Classifications 2013-15.pdf
I am counting 11 schools now...but they don't inlcude some of the ones you mentioned.
If we analyze the top 11 schools, how many of those schools currently have dominate or top tier programs? How many of those schools win a sectional regularly??
Just because some schools increased in size, doesn't mean football dominance followed.

RB Sampson James, a former 4-star from Avon that initially flipped from OSU to IU, has entered the transfer portal. He did this previously but pulled out when a new RB coach was announced. Now, I think he saw the writing on the wall with being listed as a backup on the initial fall 2-deep roster. The young man needs to get his head straight and go to a MAC, or maybe even Marian University (or similar program).
I read that as well. Pretty late in the game to pull that move.
IU's RB coach has quite the resume. Not sure what was said to James, but I would have liked to see him battle it out. It seems regardless of #1 or #2, he would have had the chance to get carries and prove himself out on the field. But as you said, this isn't his first time entering the portal. Hope he has success finding the right fit.
I also have to wonder if he was close to graduating.....

I guess its the university's perogative if they choose to change their nickname....first I have heard of a connection to the Crusades being so negative that nicknames must be scrapped, but so be it. But a logo with a lighthouse in a landlocked city? This long time Lutheran is stuggling a little with the university's ability to brand.
Irishman...your post about Univ of Tulsa led me to look it up their nickname origin. Interesting.....I guess Golden Tornadoes were taken at the time by Georgia Tech.

I love what Bowden did while as head coach at West Virginia for Marshall following the plane crash and rebuild of the Thundering Herd program. That part of the movie was spot on including WVU wearing of green crosses on their helmets during the season.
Below is a link to a nice article and Red Dawson's comments about Bowden......

Gable Steveson trailed 8-7 with just 10 seconds left, and with just 2 seconds on the clock, he gains control for for two points and adds a point because of a failed challenge to win gold against the current world champion.

Was happy for this young lady. Remembered her at age 17 in the Rio Olympics 5 years ago. Great race breaking a world record last night with a total of 3 women very close as you indicated. They mentioned her father just had a heart transplant.

I’d argue that this gig is better than a dozen or more D1 gigs. So many kids grow up with a D1/FBS or bust mindset and then get impatient and hit the transfer portal.
FCS is D1....2 classifications.
SDSU's conference, the Missouri Valley (also home to Indiana State & power North Dakota State) has held their own over the years against FBS schools. This is a pretty good source for listing FCS wins over FBS schools.

The Purple Aces played there for a few years correct? If I remember correctly, UE is about 5 miles away...actually very close to Memorial HS. Shame they no longer have a football program. At that time, was UE Div 2 for football?

Did you see my earlier post? Look up Melissa Stockwell. SHE is an amazing person.
One of my favorite things about the Olympics is seeing stories like these that we normally do not hear about.Totally agree...she is incredible!! Love those who serve our country.....in Melissa' case, paying such a terrible price, yet moving on to make a true difference truly living her life.
Inspiring Irish!! Would have give you a thanks on your post, but currently out of votes....must be too much of a +1 guy!!!

Not sure HCC would want Carmel to come in and take over. Could be CG and LN. Both would fit nicely
interesting thoughts. Don't disagree. Geographically it would make a ton of sense for Carmel with HSE, Fishers, Westfield and Zionsville.

Proposal to Make Enrollment based Adjustments to Class 5A and 6A
in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Posted
I am not saying isn't a variable in the equation...we just differ in opinion as to the magnitude of the variable.
I can point to schools across this country that are in lower income areas that have dominate football programs. Study Florida for example. I can also identify many higher income schools across this country that have lackluster football programs. We can point to several in our own state.
Now to my question....of the bottom 8 sized schools in 6A that are being proposed to being moved down to 5A, how many of those schools and which ones would you consider lower income? I am just trying to determine if we calibrate on the definition. And if they (or most) are not considered lower income, then it must be a numbers game of enrollment....and as I pointed out, the number difference is not that significant from schools in the middle of the pack in 6A and outside of the top 8.
