This shows it better...I don't believe this is a catch. That said, I don't think this is a camera angle that was available to replay officials. My guess is that similar to IU's stadium, the views for camera angles are limited at Ross Ade.

Thanks Irish....this helps these worn eyes to see it better.  I understand the frustration much better now.

The ball is on the ground next to his left leg.

Again, not disputing you...to me it looked like it could have been his leg with the burgandy pants.  I guess it wasn't clear to me, but with my vision, my view is lacking....

I can also see where it would be the ball...just not 100% positive.

I believe there is a replay official "upstairs" who is supposed to review each play. Mind blowing that neither the replay official, Brohm, or even the onfield official didn't initiate a review considering the nature of the catch (next to the sideline and appeared to not look clean in live action). I took a screen shot from a highlite video. You can see the ball on the ground and the official looking straight down at the play.

My eyes are not great..first to admit.  I can't tell from the photo if that is the ball or the leg of the Minnesota player....

I also wonder too how some programs can bounce back so much faster than others. Penn State is a prime example. After facing the harshest punishment, deservedly so, a program can face, they are once again a top 5 team. Michigan State seems to be a much more competitive team after a few years of battling on about the same level as IU. If someone says those programs have more tradition, I say you have to go pretty far back to find it; to a point that young kids will not make it a consideration.

Great questions...and I agree...kids today most likely are not swayed by traditions of the past.  Perhaps a school like Penn State has a nice market on talent not only in rich PA, but also much of the northeast.  Throw in some individuals from the midwest and south, and they have quite the roster.  They also have that connection of putting guys, especially on D, into the NFL.  But what a comeback they made as you said from a tremendously bleak event just a few years ago that could have been the death of the program.  They also defy the trend that you see from so many programs that have multiple uniform and helmet options....they wear the same old home and away uni's with the same helmet....and they still attract the young talent.  Interesting case study.  MSU is also interesting...I thought they were plummenting on the way down, and that ship seems to be back on course.

I refer to this often, and saw this ad this weekend. Look at how empty Camp Randall is for a home game in the clips. Wisconsin was a regular cellar dweller with IU for a lot of years. So, what did Alvarez do? he permanently fixed the trajectory of the program. Sure they are down, but no one here doubts they will be better soon, right? So, what is it that he was able to do that IU is missing? Or does IU have the pieces in place to follow a similar path that worked for Wisconsin?

So true Irish...I remember going to an IU vs Wisconsin game at Memorial Stadium as a kid back in the Corso years and IU shut out Wisconsin 24-0.  Wisconsin's best attribute back then was the marching band they brought with them.  Alvarez really changed the culture of that program.

The Hype after last season was to over whelming for some. I’m still satisfied with 6 or 7 wins. This schedule is brutal, I might add. Who guessed that Iowa and Cincinnati would be hammers? Sure wasn’t the ratings people. Pennsylvania state was a given. Even Western Kentucky is a real decent team. So the injury bug will be a factor here on out. The depth chart still isn’t where it needs to be for Indiana to win 8-9 games with this kind of schedule. 7 would be great and 6 is okay. We will be bowl bound.

Michigan State had little issue with Western KY yesterday. I’m not sure if IU will be favored in another game this season if they don’t turn this offense around. I can’t tell is the offense is predictable because of the limitations of the O Coord, limitations of the QB, or both.

Mack was never going to be the “2” in that “1-2” punch. Nyheim Hines could start for a lot of NFL teams.

Hines is great no doubt.  But Mack and Hines are different backs.  Mack is 6' 210lb man that was a workhorse between the tackles.  He broked the 1000 yd barrier in 2019 before going down with an injury in early 2020.  When I say "1-2" punch, I am talking the kind of back than can run repeatedly inside.  Taylor and Mack can do that.  Hines is not that kind of back.  Had he been seen as such a back, there would have been no reason to draft Taylor following the 2019 season.

Mack could have been released with Taylor and Hines on the roster, but he wasn't.  He was given a $2M contract for a season in March 2021.  Clearly, the GM felt he would compliment Taylor with fresh legs.  All I am saying, is that feeling changed quickly once the season started...so much that I don't believe Mack was even active last Sunday.  I am curious what happened to change Ballard's mind from earlier in March.

The Colts have agreed to honor Marlin Mack's request for a trade. Not sure what they will get for him, if anything. A torn Achilles is tough for a running back to recover from; the risk has to be really high on taking him.

Things went south fast between Mack and the Colts...wonder what happened behind the scenes??

Never said they wouldn’t.  Completely different topic than the character of their head coach.

OK,,,not going to argue with you.  You can assess character from your internet sources.  Glad you were able to locate some accurate, non-biased and trustworthy media sources.  I don't always seem to have that luck.

IMO, Clemson wasn't a top 10 team, is not of 10 ten team and will not be a top 10 team this season.

I'm not disagreeing...I meant in the long run.  No doubt they are struggling offensively.

I have an uncanny ability to read people, lol.

(No seriously, where there’s smoke there is usually fire.)

Clemson, the SEC and a handful of other programs are some of the worst kept secrets in sports

    Google is your friend.

Well if it’s on the internet…..

    I don’t know the man…guessing Clemson will be alright…

    Update for you @StatQueen

The overflow lot at the retail center on 46th and Arlington has a new 100 yard pond in it currently equipped with 30-50 Canadian geese. I put some orange pylons at the 3 spots next to it for your reserved parking in case you're late.
You better not drive your Range Rover either.

Also, bring your Tide sticks because your Trojans might get a grass stain or two on our "crappy grass surface".

What part of Roncalli in his profile do you not understand?

No dog in this fight, I haven't read the first thing negative about the field from a CG fan.  Guessing you know that.  Its been brought to your attention repeatedly.

I sense you like to stir things up.....talk is cheap.

Counterpoint, when a team lines up in the shotgun/pistol on 4th and short, I cringe.

No disagreement...whether under center and blasting it up the middle into the teeth of the D with 9 defenders coming hard or in a shotgun and doing something similar, it plays into the strength of the D.  Now, if its a game in which the O line has been dominating the D line, that's a different story.  But it seems with the Colts, IU, etc, there seems to be guts to go for it on 4th down, but very little creativity when it comes down to the play itself

You seem to forget that 2020 was Cathedral's first trip downtown during Thanksgiving weekend since 2014.  Things happen in football, especially high school football, and sometimes it ain't all good.  Cathedral lost a sectional game, while highly favored, to Roncalli when the Irish fumbled the ball 6 times, all by seniors.  It's never a given.  And teams can play "up" on a given night.  Too many examples of that to list here.

Also you seem to forget that it was Bobby Cox himself who put Cathedral in 5A when they should have been in 4A.

Agreed...and sadly, injuries at a couple of key spots can change the direction of a season.  Health and sometimes pure luck is always needed and appreciated.

Regarding your last sentence...we agree in numbers only.  But in quality of play, year in and year out, Cathedral does not seem like a 4A team...not by a long shot.

  16. Both teams are well represented in the Massey Ratings as well.  Again, how much credence one gives to national rankings is certainly variable.  But, we do see consistency in the various systems that have been shared.

Again, I don't think its a bad thing to see Indiana schools appear on national rankings.  It can't hurt and I would think overall improve national/regional thoughts about football in our state.

    Simply sharing.....

Minnesota just went out and shut out a Colorado State team (that had Texas A&M on the ropes) 30-0.

Uh...Technically Colorado Buffaloes from the Pac 12.  But we all understood and hard to disagree.  Going to be very tough for IU remainder of the season

Agree but I think these rankings have a lot more to do with the overall W-L record than anything else. But at the end of the day, once you get into these huge metropolitan regions like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, LA, Dade/Broward Co FL/etc that are all huge football cities, they tend to beat up on each other as the season goes. Plus you have all the East Coast prep schools that are D1 factories and then of course schools like IMG.

Perhaps a little more than just W-L records.  I do think both CG and Cathedral are getting credit for the quality of teams played.

USA Today Rankings Sept 14th  (guess updated ranking is coming soon)

I think we all realize that national ranking systems are nowhere close to perfect, include human bias, etc.  But I think most Indiana high school football fans appreciate seeing teams from the state represented, and I believe the reputation for Indy metro football continues to increase nationwide.   I would rather see Indiana high school football teams represented nationally than not.  (just my opinion)

Keep pushing forward CG and Cathedral!!!
