I was busy with family matters yesterday and didn't get to post in the Cathedral/Center Grove thread.  I just wanted to say I was happy for Steve Wheat.  Steve and I worked together at an Avon auto dealer for most of 5 years.  It must have brought a smile, or maybe even a tear, to Steve's face to see his grandson run 67 yards for the go ahead TD in the game Friday night.  I also am happy for Grover, who's been a friend of mine for many years.  Don't get me wrong, I wanted my team to win but, as I said before, losing Friday night had no after game consequences.  Both teams now just get on with the business of winning a State Championship.

I heard the Wheat boys were fast...I looked up Brandon's track performance last year.  Wonder if this speed comes from his Grandpa?  Very impressive.

Not a single one of those games were played at Arlington. Hell Cathedral played Fishers on a baseball diamond.

    Troll harder.

No one said a word about the games being played anywhere. The fact remains the same…local quality HS programs that no longer continue series with Cathedral. You scoffed and belittled Carmel and Roncalli. The list is larger than your 2 examples

    Trigger less….

Lol, who has stopped playing Cathedral? Roncalli? Yeah I would too if I lost ten in a row? Carmel after getting run on their home field last year? What does any of that have to do with the playing surface?

Don’t have to go very far back in history to see what could have been solid series  with local quality HS programs with Cathedral not last. Carmel, Ben Davis, Warren Central, Fishers, HSE, etc. Most of those programs more than held their own against the Irish. Why did they end?  No clue…but they didn’t last.

    Nice poke at Carmel btw.

Cathedral for the last two years has once again adopted Arlington as its “home field” now that it is no longer used by Arlington High School. Cathedral completely redid the field out of their own pocket. Stop acting like Cathedral saw Center Grove on the schedule, threw a dart that landed on Arlington, and decided to play the game there because it’s a natural surface. Every home game the last two years have been at Arlington and will be going forward rain, sleet, shine.

Don’t like the facility? Stay at home. Nobody at Cathedral gives a rats ass where you think they should and shouldn’t play their home games. If Center Grove has an issue playing at Arlington going forward, drop Cathedral from the schedule. It’s as simple as that.

Lol!!!  I could care less if CG and Cathedral play in the future or not.  As I’ve said to others, I have zero dogs in this fight.  I’ll leave that to the admins. But there must be a reason why excellent programs in the state stop playing Cathedral.

I do think it was a bit of gamesmanship on the Irish’s part. Sorry that triggers you. And YOU must give a rats butt, because you can’t stop yourself from getting agitated and spouting.

Games over man, go have a beverage and chill. Lots of good football still left this weekend!!

You need to be put on a word count until you actually pay money out of your pocket to post on here. You dumb down this board every single time you post and you’re a huge reason why so many long time posters no longer post here.

If there are truly less posters on this board, could it possibly be due to excessive insults and and snarkiness?

Everyone on this board has a right to share their opinions in accordance with the rules, whether you like them or not.

I don't blame Cathedral 1 bit for declining, and think it was a great choice to decline. Of course CG would offer to lend its homefield to have another home game.

By the way 2015 CG did the same only the home stands were not given up. Arlington is Cathedral's home field and it was for several years in the 90's and 00's. Even played Center Grove there in 1992.

Cathedral hosted CG at Tech high school the last 2 times Cathedral was the home team in 2017 & 2019.  Cathedral played on the field that was to their advantage. CG this season is the faster team. You saw what Wheat did in quagmire. Now put him, the DL and others on turf. I understand what Cathedral did…don’t blame them. Just accept it and move on. Good plan, it didn’t work.

I think both sides would agree that the officiating was totally subpar.  No home cooking for the Irish tonight.

Can anyone explain where the holding was called that negated the CG punt return for a TD?  It looked like the flag was thrown on the 10 yd line a long way from the ball carrier. Why was the ball placed back at midfield?

When the State of Indiana builds your press box, it's always a little fancier. We'll bring hand warmers and hot chocolate to your coaches.

My press box? You are sorely mistaken.
State of Indiana?  I don’t see that name on the stadium at CG, Perry, FC, etc.

I’m impressed with your focus on sharing

Here’s to your break out night!!

It is nothing personal, but there is no room.  Maybe 5 bodies can get inside...we have our radio team, two coaches and PA guy and it is PACKED.  Our video guy / coach is stuck outside and usually sets up behind student section.  All the visiting coaches have to take a spot top row of the stands either left or right of press box.

Every visiting teams has to put up with the same thing.  It has been this way FOREVER at Arlington.

    Gotta love old-school.

Not really. This wasn’t an issue when Cathedral hosted CG in 2017 and 2019…

  10. I have no problem with Gruden being held accountable.  Ridiculous and sad on his part, although I do feel like his emails were purposely released.  As Derek Carr said, release them all.  Would be interesting.

I struggle with Randy Moss and others on ESPN casting such judgment.  I struggle that no time in their lives, they have not made negative comments about women, same sex choices, and even skin color.  As Christ says, "he who is without sin cast the first stone".......

Hopefully, people use this example to look inside of themselves and become better people.  Not because of Gruden's career impact, but because of his words in writing.  They are indeed hurtful and are opposite of Christ's love.  From what I hear, Gruden treated all people very well.  It just seems like his actions don't align with his thoughts...at least his thoughts 11 years ago.

I also agree with Temptation...organizations want to jump in the middle and make it political...."look at how good we are by taking action....we are enlightened cats that "stand for good".  That's awesome Tampa Bay Bucs...just be consistent and treat all cases the same.  Don't be selective.  Guessing they won't be sharing any emails soon.....

As Derek Carr also said...."love the man, hate the sin".....

I agree with the gaps between teams in their respective classes are wider in 5A than 6A, but CG being ranked #9 in the nation is no fluke.

It will be interesting to see how the weather truly effects the game.  49 degrees + 15mph winds + 1/2" rain projected + grass field = conditions both teams probably have not played in quite some time?

I think CG is great.  I think Cathedral is great.  No fluke in the national rankings of either team.  I just believe (opinion only) that CG has a tougher road in the 6A playoffs than Cathedral does in 5A.  All I am saying, that depending how things go friday night, realizing the path is tougher may play into decision-making if "push comes to shove".  Hopefully, it doesn't.

I agree 100% with your comments about weather.  Absolutely changes the game and the planning behind it.  May limit the amount of weapons that can be either released or optimized.  Tayven Jackson throwing 5 TD's last week was a thing of beauty.  If the forecast is accurate, definitely makes a passing much more of a challenge.

Defense absolutely gassed. Down 3 defensive backs and a couple lineman. I don't fault the defense for last nights loss, they played about as well as you could ask and then some for 3.5 quarters despite being shorthanded.

This game was lost when Reich tried to run out the clock with 5 minutes left. Unless you've never watched an NFL game until last night, typically the team with the ball last wins. Reich playing for a FG with an injured kicker instead of trying to get a first down is the reason why the Colts lost. They were the aggressor the entire night until they got in FG range on their 2nd to last driver up 8 points.

I hear ya and don't necessarily disagree....but Reich had went for it on 4th down in the first half close to the red zone and they were stopped....came away with 0 points.  Maybe that was in his head the 2nd half.  I believe on the series you are referencing, he ran for it on 3rd down, in lieu of throwing the ball, to eat the clock and the Colts were stopped.  He then lined up for the FG and the 37 yarder was blocked on some atrocious attempt by the O line.   The 6'8" guy that blocked the kick could have shaken hands with the kicker.

The issue I had with the D is that they did nothing to stop the bleeding.  They let a TE and one WR beat them.  Watkins was out of the game due to an injury and nothing was changed by the D.  Double team the TE...even the announcers were calling for the D to blitz.  They gave Jackson zero different looks.  Rush 4, play soft zone and let the TE sink in between defenders.  They made it easy.  I get they were wiped out at the DB position with just signed practice guys even playing...but playing repeated soft zones with the same 4 man rush made it very easy for a QB that is not the 2nd coming of Marino when it comes to passing.

2 missed FG's (one blocked) and a missed XP was a killer.  Going for 2 points early after a 2nd half TD and failing instead of the XP was a killer.  They needed 1 more point...and it just wasn't there....they found multiple ways to lose that game....almost invented them.

I think if both teams were in 6A you might see the coaches take the gas of the pedal, maybe even rest starting unites after halftime..only because these two would be play each other again in a much bigger game on Thanksgiving Weekend.

That is not the case this year of course.  CG and Irish are so far ahead of the rest of the pack, and fitting this will be the most difficult game of the season for both teams.  Both will blow through everyone when the 'second season' starts in a few weeks so let's enjoy this one while we can!

6A playoffs won't be a walk in the park....requires teams to stay healthy and beat multiple talented teams twice, which is never an easy task.  I believe CG understands this and won't sell the farm friday.  They will play hard and play to win, but will not sacrifice their ultimate prize of a 6A title.  I think this was Grover's point in earlier comments.

Just my opinion, but Cathedral's gap to win in the 5A playoffs is much greater than CG's in 6A.  I don't see the playoff risks identical at all.

It's in Neddenriep's tweet. There have been multiple Center Grove fans on here as well that have commented about the safety of the facility.

@Joncommented a thread a few weeks back about possibility getting shot at because he was once shot at near Arlington back in the 80's.

I follow Kyle. Followed his tweet last night about limited capacity. One comment that included safety. That is what drove a Cathedral freshman coach to jump in.

Cathedral will be playing this game like its their national championship regardless if the game was played on turf, grass, or concrete.

Not sure Center Grove's status, don't really care. The facility this game is being played at is garnishing more attention than the game itself which is sad. You have Center Grove fans on Twitter complaining about safety due to the surrounding neighborhoods. Do Center Grove fans not realize they literally play across the street at Lawrence Central every other year?

I follow a number of Twitter feeds...feels like you might be embellishing this a little.  I've seen one comment complaining about the facility, which drove a Cathedral frosh coach to jump in the fray and start commenting.   I don't see that happen much.

Truthfully, how many CG fans have you read Tweeting about the location due to safety?  I have no dog in this fight....but perhaps I am missing all the CG fans comments.  Point me in the right direction in my thoughts about your post are inaccurate.  I am a Twitter guy, so I can find them if you point me to them.  You have me curious.

Cathedral could theoretically have an agreement with any facility in the state if they so wish, the problem is that is costs Cathedral money to rent and host even at a place like Tech. That isn't the case with Arlington. Cathedral's "home field" for the longest time has always been Arlington (when available) and with Arlington no longer playing high school football the field is readily available every home game. It's less than a mile from campus. The playing surface at Arlington is more than fine and the game of football was played on grass for almost 100 years before synthetic turf. It is unfortunate that the parents of Center Grove student athletes may have to grab an extra tide stick at Target this week, but rest assured they will live. Trust me.

Thanks for explaining...just curious why what was done in the past has been changed for this friday. Just seems that a larger capacity facility would bring in more funds, but perhaps it doesn't offset the cost of using Tech.  Just don't hear often about capping attendance as a result of facility constraints.

I understand the history of the game, but thanks for the comments about playing surface.....

  17. Serious question...is there no longer an agreement between Cathedral and Tech high school?  I believe that is where the last couple of CG vs Cathedral games have been hosted by the Irish.  I ask because the Tech schedule has them on the road against Kokomo, so I assume the Tech field is open friday night.  Turf field, larger seating capacity, perhaps better parking (not sure), so it just made me wonder.

    Thanks!

  18. I am reading CG’s 2nd straight undefeated MIC championship is the first in MIC history. To MIC guru’s, is this correct?  Back to back undefeated conference championships a first?

Congrats to Center Grove Coach Eric Moore for coaching his Trojan teams to an 8th MIC championship, passing the great Dick Dullaghan. Both legendary coaches!!

  19. Former All State HS Center from Bishop Chatard Danny Godlevske is making a big impact for the 5-0 Oklahoma State Cowboys.  Danny, a former player and graduate of the Miami of Ohio Redhawks is using his final year of eligibility for OK State.  He immediately was moved into the starting center position on the OL and is playing really well.  His experience is really helping out the O line and the Cowboy rushing attack.  OSU is off this Saturday and next week play at Texas for a big conference game.  The Cowboys have knocked off Kansas State and Baylor in consecutive weeks.

If you get the chance, tune into some Cowboy games and watch a true master of his craft.  Stay healthy #51 and keep driving forward Danny!!!  Making the Hoosier State proud!

I read on Facebook that the North Central @ Ben Davis game is being moved to 3:00pm.  Can anybody confirm?  I get the desire to play before nightfall but 3:00 seems awfully early.

I just read on Twitter...Indiana Prep Sports Network in a tweet indicated this move has been taken across the country in major cities for games in "areas of violence".  Its a shame...
