I saw enough (in the trenches) that would have me concerned playing a team like Ben Davis right off the bat.

BD goal line stand right at the end of second quarter was impressive IMO. Moeller 1st and Goal on BD 3 yard line. BD stops Michigan Commit on 3 straight runs. Then on fourth down Moeller gave up on Michigan RB and tried something different, that did not work out so well for them.  I won't spoil what happens on fourth down but it had me going what the heck!  You can watch the series of plays for yourself at about 2:02:00 into the broadcast. Had 165 all purpose yards but your point still stands.

Same question to you…you’ve been bullish on BD and even used the world “clearly”.

How many points better than Cathedral are they in your book?

    I would go with BD 42 - Irish 21

Ignoring my better Judgment, I will provide just a couple of MY reasons behind that score. These are my opinions, for what it is worth, and I am not challenging anybody’s else’s opinions.
I see BD shutting down Irish rushing game making them one dimensional. I don’t think Irish OL can handle the pressure that BD would bring. Irish have a very good QB  that can make BD pay for their aggressive defense, thus the Irish 21 points. As, for the Irish defense I don’t see them any better than Moellers, thus the BD 42 points.  BD has:  good QB, good RB, fast receivers, team speed, relentlessly attacks the ball, …

I mean, we are taking RANKINGS and opinions here on a discussion forum…the classic “let’s let it play out” coach speak is cool and all but is also boring.

BD looks like the best team right NOW is all he was saying…with admittedly a small sample size.

I do disagree that “it’s not even close” however.  Not sure how you can come to that conclusion after one week.

Just curious. Since you have BD #1 and Cathedral #2 this week. What would your prediction be in a game this Friday between BD and Cathedral, at BD?

  4. Came across this article from the Daily Journal. In it mention that Center Grove had a Week 7 game lined up against Catholic Memorial from Boston before Pike, the Trojans’ regular Week 7 foe, decided in May to opt back in.  That would have made six out of state teams that CG would have faced.  In the article Moore didn't sound so happy with IHSAA for the situation that they are in. Is playing all these national teams good for Indiana football?

It’d be a great series to get back on the schedule and could eventually re-develop into a cool backyard rivalry if Whiteland can continue to grow.

I’d rather see CG “drub” Whiteland than play 4 out of state teams annually.

You got to love a good old day backyard rivalry where you paint your opponent's stadium and then get spanked 41-0.

  7. Does anybody know any coaches that have won state titles in multiple sports?

I know Center Grove coach Moore has done it in Football and Track(2011).  Also, Coach Moore could be on the verge of winning football and track state titles in the same school year.  Currently CG track is ranked #1 in the state and giving points on current best times and distances CG would come out as state champs. That is big if and in my opinion I am not convince it will happen, but it would be awesome to see if it happens. Am interest in hearing what everyone else thinks.

Because IMHO if you want to be an IHSAA state champion you should then play predominately other IHSAA member schools during the regular season

Why not take it one step further and limit it to class. So, if you don't play predominately in your class, you should not be able to compete for the class championship. Such as Cathedral in 2021 class 5A where they played only 1 class 5a school. I bet everybody else in 5a that year would have loved to have Cathedral out of the tournament.

    Haven’t we been here before?

CG player nominated…CG fans saying they wouldn’t have won state without that player

cg fans saying stats don’t matter

long arguments about stats to follow.

after a while insert discussion about how the best players are sometimes OL and they never get a shot at this award

So you say CG would have won state without Coyle and my statement is false. Also, if I had a vote I would of voted for Hansen.

Flawed comparison and you know it.

So you are basing your pick on focus and purpose huh?

    Bold.

Nope, I did not pick cg to win. I just stated that IMO  stats gives CG  an offensive edge.

I leaning towards Carroll on the defense side of the ball. CG pass defense has ben bad often this season give up 325+ yards i think 4 times. First game against Cathedral CG gave up 400 passing yards.

As who going to win I have no clue.
