Incomplete pass. That way you don’t have to concern yourself with that very iffy block in the back call that takes away the TD.

I do agree with the iffy block in the back, but this was not a one-off call, it seems like on every punt, WR blocking play there was a block in the back call or holding call.  I made a joke to my wife that official's arms are probably as tired as QB1 arms. I was not bother by this because it was consistently called, and the teams should adjust. it is when calls are not consistently called that it bothers me.

This is close. The defender is not guilty of a personal foul against a defenseless receiver if he wraps him up as part of the hit. It looks like the defender may do this, but I can't tell for sure. You also have a potential targeting call since his helmet may have hit the defender high causing the helmet to come off. I can't tell for sure on this video if the helmet was contacted. Helmets do come off on legal  hits like this if they aren't tight enough.

I appreciate your reply and your perspective. I have no intention of criticizing or questioning the decisions of the Officials. My goal is to learn more about the rules and the nuances of the game, which enhances my enjoyment as a fan.

In this case I think than the IMG play led with the shoulder and did not wrap up the runner, so I believe this was a correct call. I had to watch it multiple times in slow motion to come up with conclusion so hats off to the office that made the call in real time, very Impressive.

Here is a similar play from week 2 CG vs Oakland Where player wrapped up the receiver on the hit so no penalty. This play brought up another question. The Question Is receiver possession of a catch. Official ruled catch then fumble. I am not sure what the rule is in high school football.

play starts about 1:48 in video.

I am not a big fan of the manner in which the Rulebook deals with “defenseless” players. It does a great job of defining what is meant by “defenseless,” and gives helpful examples of defenseless players. But, IMO, does not do a very good job of telling us what sort of contact against such a player is legal, and what constitutes unnecessary roughness, and is a foul. The new definitions contained in Rule 2-32-16, however, provide that guidance … but only with regard to defenseless receivers (or interceptors, as the rule applies equally to offense and defense).

I sought, and received, an official interpretation of the new rule from Asst. Commissioner Faulkens. Regardless of how awkwardly the new rule goes about it, the official interpretation is as follows:

In the case of a defenseless receiver, the only types of forcible contact permitted against such a receiver are:

    1. Contact initiated with open hands and arms extended, just like in the blindside block rule.
    2. Contact during an attempted “form tackle,” i.e., where the opponent’s contact includes an attempt to “wrap up” the receiver.
    3. Contact occurring in the course of a legitimate attempt to make a play on the football.

Any forcible contact against a defenseless receiver that does not fit into one of these three categories is a foul, either for unnecessary roughness or targeting (if the contact is above the shoulders).

No more ESPN highlight hits on receivers, trying to separate them from the ball.

Prediction: In the coming years we will see this type of specific protection extended to all types of defenseless players.

I guess IMG was not aware of this rule. The IMG players were like darn that was a good hit.

I was thinking you'd have to go back a very long time to find two Fort Wayne teams that were widely accepted as Top 10 regardless of class squaring off with one another. One might argue that Snider and Dwenger 2015 may have both been Top Ten. If I remember correctly, that wasn't one of 6A's stronger years. Outside of that you may have to back to the early 2000's with Snider and Homestead. Late 90's with Snider and Homestead. Late 80's with Snider and North Side. Both Snider and Dwenger have had several Top 10 seasons, but not very often in the same year.

Friday night will be a hell of an atmosphere. I'd estimate 6000 fans and two of the best student sections in the state.

Sorry if this is dumb question, I am not that familiar with Fort Wayne Football I follow 6A Indianapolis Donut hole teams. Where does Snider play their home games?  I did google map satellite image and I can't image 6000 fans in that stadium.

I hear that phrase “off-season” training used as something you “buy” as opposed to the weight training, etc. that serious and quality football teams expect from athletes in the off-season that is offered as part of the program.  As to off-season “camps”, unless things have changed at Chatard, any “skill camp” other than the one the school offered was historically strongly discouraged.

And if you’re referencing some sort of off-season travel football teams that seems to be a mechanism to part rube pre-high school kid parents from their money and likely end a kid’s playing days early.  Football ain’t hoops….thank God.

I feel like I see this “off-season training” used elsewhere (over on the moronic Facebook page) as something generally wealthy suburban schools or private/parochials have some sort of access to that allows them to somehow “buy” performance for their kids.   Frankly, it’s a canard….just another excuse in my mind…and it seems to be a largely rural v. city thing.

Off-season training is something you just do.   Although I played football in HS, it was track that paid for my college.  My off-season training was running the highways 8-10 miles per day and the cost was time, sweat, blisters and a couple pair of Nikes per year.

Sorry, PTR, I just had a “Get off my lawn!” moment and, admittedly, it was directed at some of the stuff I read elsewhere.

So if nobody are using places like X-Factor QB Academy, how do they stay in business. X-Factor QB Academy advertises that they been in business for 11 years.

I may have been wrong about the Warriors after all…more so I was wrong about LC…that Westfield battle seems to have been fool’s gold…unless I was also wrong about WESTFIELD, lol?

Also, what in the hell is the Railroad Lantern trophy?

I am glad it is not me doing a top 25 this week. IMO, positions 2+ are just a jumble mess.

  7. I think how close this game depends on CG secondary play. CG has played predominate running teams this year so far, so the secondary has yet been tested. Moe has a SO. QB averaging around 300 yards per game plus a D1 RB so CG needs to be careful on play action. On multiple occasions last year CG gave up more than 350+ passing yards. On the Moe defensive side of the ball, they have a Notre Dame DB commit so the CG 6a receiving yards leader vs Notre dame DB commit should be interesting.

I am going with CG for the win by how much I have no clue.

Arlington's best season ever was 1999 in 5A Regionals they led Ben Davis 15-13 until Ben David kicked a last second long field goal to win the game 16-15. Ben Davis went on to beat Bloomington South 38-0 in Semi-State and Penn 27-3 in the State Finals.

COACH HARPOLD was an awesome coach and person. He turned Howe and Alington into really solid programs. Plus, I have great appreciation for anyone that teaches Math.

OK, so what's up with all these high school teams - some of them larger schools - playing games at a jr. high venue?  I don't live in Indiana anymore, and keep seeing this "at Arlington MS".

Do they have a kickin' new stadium that's better than the high schools?  Is there a push for neutral site regular season games (IIRC most of these are Indy-area teams)?  Are these high schools all having work done at their stadiums concurrently?

What gives?  As the guy in the Dirty Harry movie said, "I gots to know!"

let the fun begin! Usually this does not come up until Center Grove vs Cathedral game. It is the only time big boys like CG get to play in the mud.

IMO this is spot on, but I would disagree about the running game. The 2 backs you referenced averaged 6yds a carry against an excellent St Ed’s defense. They need more than 15 touches and the running game will be just fine.

I am probole being too critical of this year CG running game. CG bar / expectation is set so high for the running back position that when you stack this group up against (Micah Coyle, Drew Wheat, Carson Steele, Russ Yeast, Titus McCoy, Max Norris) it is almost impossible for them to measure up against them. I think they can be good, but good enough to get CG to Lucus Oil, which for better or worse IMO is CG standard now.

  12. I going with Center Grove 24 Oakland 21 (Homer pick)

Oakland is 3-time defending 6a state champions from Tennessee and has won 4 out of the last 5. If you like Wing-t football CG vs Oakland is the game to see, they both run a modified wing-t.
Last year team stats: Oakland Rushing: 4304, Passing: 1665 and CG Rushing: 3543, Passing: 2289. Oakland is mostly a running team but can pass when needed. Oakland has a lot of team speed. RBs can get outside and have breakaway speed to create big plays and defense is fast at closing on ball carriers.

    Keys for CG:

These are all my opinion, and I am not anywhere near an expert. Also, these Opinions are based on what I have seen as of today. I am very aware that Center Grove Will be a better team come playoff time

Running game needs to improve. Last week CG had 100 yards rushing and most of that came from 2 RBs, 40 and 50 yards.  You have to go back to 2009 for a year CG has had no 1000-yard rusher, but even that year they had 3 players over 700 yds. I don’t see a 1000-yard rusher this year, Hope CG proves me wrong!!!

Rap up tackles. IMO CG gave up too many yards after contact against St. Ed.

Keep Oakland speedy big play RBs from getting outside.

Pass defense: Oakland is mainly a running team but can pass when needed. CG needs to not give up big plays. CG has struggled in this area. Last year 4 times CG gave up more than 350 receiving yards.

Improve pass protection. St Ed had a lot of pressure on CG’s QB last week, not putting all the blame on DL. IMO CG does not read the defense and adjust very well during play.

CG needs more out of their passing game. They have a good set of receivers.

Oakland players to watch. (from 247)
    2024
    Duce Hewitt TE 6-3 / 240        3-Star
    Jake Riggs IOL 6-4 / 260        3-Star
    Stephen Ellison S 5-11 / 185  3-Star

    2025
    Kaden Mowl OT 6-7 / 330              3-Star
    Aivery Haynesworth RB 6-2 / 190  3-Star
    Daune Morris SE 5' 10" / 175 lbs   4-star

Interesting that some of the Ohio slappies over on Yappi are taking a victory lap for St. Ed’s margin of victory over CG while BD’s win over Moeller is a footnote.

Doesn’t help matters that our own @BDGiant93 made his way over there with some fake outrage about seating capacities without doing his homework and they laid into him pretty good.

As one who thought the Hoosier state was going 0-2 over the weekend, I’ll take the split.

BD has to now avoid a let down against Avon (shouldn’t be much of a problem) while CG hosts Oakland (TN) FRIDAY night if I am reading Harrell correctly.

Seems bizarre?  Anyone know for sure?

Also, a quick glance of 247’s top Tennessee recruits gives me confidence CG will be 1-1 after this weekend.  But that’s all I’ve got.

St. Ed's CG game was way over hyped. The funny thing with all the hype about the game the attendance was not very impressive. CG brought their Faithfull that show up for every away game, but I was surprised how small St. ed's crowd was.
