  1. Some interesting stats
Both first year starting QBs a Junior and Sophomore. I was surprised how close their stats are.
    CG
    T. Cherry(Jr)   YDS 2124  c% 0.649   Y/G 163.4
    Carroll
    J. Sullivan(So)  YDS 2203 c% 0.648  Y/G 169.5

Overall running game, I give the edge to CG they have an awesome one two punch. But Carroll QB has the better running QB.
    CG                      YDS    AVG    Y/G    TD
    Coyle(Sr)            1941    6.9    149.3    21
    Thomeson(Sr)    954    6.2    79.5    9

    Carrol           YDS    AVG    Y/G    TD
    Starks(So)    1134   6.4     87.2    7
    Steely(Jr)      482    7.0     37.1    13
    Sullivan(So)   182    2.4     14.0    9
Passing game, I say is a toss-up. CG has the leading receiving yards player, but Carroll distributes the ball around more.
    CG              YDS    AVG    Y/G    TD
    Coy(Jr)       1081   19.0     83.2    13
    Hohlt(Sr)     227    15.1     25.2    3
    Wright(Sr)    220   12.9    18.3    0

    Carroll                           YDS    AVG    Y/G    TD
    C. Herschberger(Sr)    737      12.9    56.7    7
    H. Haffner(Jr)              479    12.9    36.8    10
    J. Hill(Sr)                      472    14.3    42.9    4

So, looking at stats from only the offense side of the game I give a slight edge to CG.

cathedral vs carmel sounds like a money maker to me

Center Grove In the past has brought the largest crowd and definitely would bring a lager crowed then Cathedral and I think Hamilton Southeastern would bring more than Carmel.

So, I think Center Grove (Going for three in a row) vs Hamilton Southeastern (Undefeated) would bring in the largest crowd.

There was a C. Leather play of this exact scenario:

    Play #58

4th and 12 from the B-35 yard line. Quarterback A1 throws a pass which is possessed simultaneously by A2 and B2 at the B-25 yard line.  A2 and B2 continue to move down the field while continuing to battle for possession of the ball.  (a) the ball is fumbled on the B-20 yard line and recovered by B3.  (b) the players both fall to the ground at the B-20 yard line still both in possession of the ball. Ruling?

    Ruling:

A ball that is possessed simultaneously is awarded to the offense.  The ball is dead at the spot of the simultaneous possession.  In this case that yard line is the B-25.  This is short of the line to gain.  In both (a) and (b), it will be 1st and 10 for B from the B-25 yard line.

      7-5-4

So, in this case the officials spotted the ball incorrectly. The offense advanced the ball and officials spotted it where they landed.

This is a great question, but not one that can be answered simply. On many crews, the officials in conflict get together, briefly, to see if they can resolve their conflict. If they can’t, they go to the Referee. Normally, the Referee acts first as a facilitator, trying to get the conflicting views resolved. Ultimately, however, as I used to remind the members of my crew on occasion, a football crew is not a democracy. One guy wears the white hat for a reason. If the conflicting views can’t be resolved by agreement, then the Referee makes the ruling. It’s usually based on a number of factors such as who had the better view, whose area of responsibility it was, application of any “when in doubt” maxims, etc.

By the way, my ruling on that clip was simultaneous catch, meaning the ball is dead in possession of the offense at the spot of the simultaneous catch.

So the play is dead when they both have possession not when they were down by contact?

  5. When multiple officials make different calls on the same play how is it decided on which one to go with?  In the video first official called it CG's ball, second official then sort of gave a incomplete call then third office started arguing it was a completed pass. They went with the third official call, completed pass. Is it usual decided by who had best position, the loudest (alpha) official or some other way.

It was actually 410 yds not 351. CG definitely did some things that were working 2nd and 3rd qtr. Even quite a few of the big pass plays in the 4th qtr there was at least a defender with their hand on the ball or right there.

I was going off what CG posted on Digital Scout. Cathedral Irish at Center Grove Trojans Football | 10/14/2022 7:00:00 PM | Digital Scout live sports scores and stats

Whatever, 351 or 410 they still have a big play pass defense problem that they have been having all year.

I'm kinda sad that the seniors (and Mr. Football guys) don't get to strut their stuff for the stats/voters. Jaron Tibbs is the finest receiver in the state. A possession receiver and touchdown toss-up guy that always wins (i.e. Mike Evans). Or, Brennan Wooten, the Western Michigan recruit wrecking ball in the open field that has had to share TDs with so many talented WRs the last 3 years. Or Kendrick Gilbert, the one-man disruption machine (think Ed "Too Tall" Jones from the old school Cowboys).

    War Irish.

According to MaxPreps Tibbs is listed as 17th in class 6a in receiving yards with 281 yards. Ben Davis has 2 receivers in top 10 at 3rd and 8th. Heck Center Grove receiver Is 2nd and has more yards than Tibbs and Wooten combined. Tibbs will need a heck of a second half of the season and a deep run in the state tournament to get into the Mr. football running (IMO)

  8. I think Ben Davis wins this one.    Center Grove 17 - Ben Davis  28

Two main reason best CG RB injured and CG Pass defense.

When CG 1000 yard RB from last year went down for the year CG run game took a big hit so they moved one of their best and most experience defensive players to RB which is another loss on the defensive side of the ball.  Is this a bad sign for CG future running game that there was not a young RB ready to step up?

CG Pass defense IMO is average at best they gave up 353 yards to Carmel and I suspect they will have similar problems against Ben Davis.

  9. Center Grove 29 game win streak on the line, 25th annual Copper Kettle game, Series is tied at 12 games apiece and with a crowd of 6000+ it just does not get much better than that.  Key to CG victory will be in their running game and they will be without starting RB Drew Wheat. RB Coyle ran for 221 yards last week and probably need close to a repeat performance this week.  If CG can get 275 from their running game, I think they will win. But Carmel has some real studs on defense to slow that running game down.

I think CG gets it done at home CG 17 Carmel 14

We think we will be pretty good.  Also, what about Tri-West in 3A south?

Could you elaborate on why you think you will be good? From what I see from looking at last year stats it would suggest a rebuilding year.

As the list below would suggest:

    ·        Lost Purdue QB replaced with a JR QB that had 4 passing attempts last year.

    ·        Lost 3 out of 4 top receivers including the two bests

    ·        On defense it looks like they have 1 returning starter. Ouch!

One upside GS returns there leading rusher. Is GS going to become a rushing team?

Aren’t all reports out of Columbus extremely positive thus far?

They have that cute little helmet stripe tradition that I’m too lazy to look up right now but I thought Curry was among the most impressive freshmen on the duster this spring.

What in THE HELL are you talking about?

He was the second freshman to lose his stripe

I believe the disinformation over his HT/WHT will come back on him at some point.  Clearly, the OSY staff can see what is right in front of them.  But they are also incentivized to hit recruiting numbers and rankings based on player ratings.  Curry was just short of 5 star status.  That helps push the OSU overall recruiting results up a notch or two.  Staff might overlook some shortcomings, so to speak.

Note 247 analyst Allen Trieu's overall assessment and comments below :

While 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu notes that Curry "comes across as more compact than his listed size," the projection includes an NFL future and a "very high floor" thanks to his performance against good competition in high school.

Very productive, disruptive player. Even when he is not the one making the play, he is consistently affecting offenses with his penetration. Gets off the snap quickly and shows the agility to get skinny and get through the line or win with a spin move. Shows violence with his hands. Is able to pursue because he can change directions but also pursues hard. At his best when penetrating, can still get stronger to be able to hold ground against the run more especially projecting him going against stronger college players. Seems extremely high floor because of the way he plays and production against good competition in high school. Still looking for a true verified measurement on him, but a legitimate high major difference maker. Could play end in an odd front or tackle in an even front.

The Ohio State Spring Game roster listed him as 6-3 250

  14. 2 hours ago, HHF said:

Id be more concerned about his actual height, which is absolutely critical at his position.  There is a BIG difference between 6-2.5 and 6-5., especially when you are pass rushing against 6-7 offensive guards and tackles.

If he is closer to 6.2.5, dont be surprised to see him moved to LB.

There is talk that he might play the LEO position for Ohio State
