Here are my hypothetical neutral site regionals for this year.  Single games played on Friday night, all at locations with turf fields.

    Brownsburg/Cathedral @ Ben Davis

    Warren Central/Center Grove @ Southport

    Mishawaka/Snider @ Warsaw

    Plainfield/Whiteland @ Perry Meridian

    Bloomington South/Castle @ Jasper

    4A

New Prairie/Northridge @ SB St. Joe

    Columbia City/Kokomo @ Mississinewa

    Roncalli/New Palestine @ Franklin Central

East Central/Evansville Memorial @ Bloomington North

    3A

    West Lafayette/Knox @ Logansport

    Yorktown/Chatard @ Pendleton Heights

North Judson/Park Tudor @ Harrison (WL)

Carroll (Flora)/Adams Central @ Oak Hill

But then most of ya'll know I'm in favor of neutral sites.

  2. Carroll at Lafayette Jeff - Carroll by 20.

Snider at Mishawaka - No intel (for me) on Mishawaka. Snider by 14 sounds good.

Columbia City at Kokomo - Not much intel on Kokomo, either.  Going with CC by a TD.

Luers at Bluffton - From what I've read, the biggest mismatch of these five games by far. Knights by 28... or a lot more if they want.

Carroll at Adams Central - AC should be tested this game; but they will pass that test. Jets by 20.

For a non-local, it's getting more difficult to pick these.  As the geographical range each week keeps expanding, my knowledge of teams outside the "general" Fort Wayne area (SAC, ACAC, NE8) decreases exponentially lol.

Bluffton has 1 sectional title..... and it was in 1A..... in 1988. Eastbrook by 28.

I got 2 nieces and a nephew that graduated from Eastbrook a good while back.  Pulling for them due to the fam connection.

Think this game will be closer than 28, but wouldn't be upset if was proved wrong.  I do, however, like your confidence!

  4. Warsaw at Carroll - Carroll by "only" 14.  Due to Warsaw going to play keep away.

North Side at Snider - Snider by 7 max.

Leo at Columbia City - Columbia City by 14.

Yorktown at Norwell - Norwell by 21.  Possibility for the score to get ugly if Norwell firing on all cylinders.

Bishop Luers at Eastside - Another nail biter.  Luers by 7 max.  This and Snider/NS two best games of all these IMHO.

Eastbrook at Bluffton - Eastbrook by 3.

Adams Central at Northfield - Give me AC by as many as they want.

Carroll at Penn - On a neutral field I'm taking Carroll in a close one. Freed field is a different story. Carroll's dream season falls short in round one.    Kingsman by 7

Fishers at Northrop - Running clock midway through the 3rd quarter.    Fishers by 42

Homestead at Hamilton Southeastern - Homestead will surprise HSE for about a quarter and a half. Then it's over.    HSE by 28

Anderson at North Side - The long drive won't do Anderson any favors.    Legends by 42

Snider at Dwenger - The Saints have good coaching and a ton of heart. They close the gap from three weeks ago.     Snider by 14

Leo at East Noble - Not your typical East Noble team. I see a repeat of the regular season game.     Lions by 7

Dekalb at Columbia City - CC has been battle tested the last couple of weeks. They should roll Dekalb.     CC by 28

Mississinewa at Huntington North - Mississinewa is on a roll. The Vikings won't stop them from their seventh victory in a row.     Mississinewa by 21

Norwell at Concordia - Columbia City woke Norwell up. Cadets will put up a fight in the beginning, but in the end, it's...         Norwell by 28

Garrett at Yorktown - Winners of 3 of their last 4, but it's over for the Railroaders.     Yorktown by 21

Luers at Churubusco - Churubusco is rolling right now, but Luers is a different beast.          Knights by 14

Eastside at Manchester - Blazers are the sectional favorite. This game will be ugly.      Blazers by 35

Bluffton at Tipton - Maybe one of the better games on tap this weekend. I'll take the Tigers by 7

South Adams at Adams Central - Adams Central is a machine, South Adams is on the cusp.     Flying Jets by 21

I only picked against you once.....

Carroll at Penn - Close one either way, Carroll gets help from lady luck this time

    Fishers at Northrop

    Homestead at Hamilton Southeastern

    Anderson at North Side

Snider at Dwenger - this could be a really good matchup 2nd time around

    Leo at East Noble

    Dekalb at Columbia City

    Mississinewa at Huntington North

    Norwell at Concordia

    Garrett at Yorktown

Luers at Churubusco - Luers got a revenge match coming vs. Eastside.  Busco's good but ain't no way they stop the Knights, unless Luers looks too far ahead.

    Eastside at Manchester

    Bluffton at Tipton

South Adams at Adams Central - all AC, just another level above SA.

Eastside is a thorn in Luers side, so getting out of sectionals will be a chore.  But I'm looking forward to seeing how the Knights do against schools their size for a change.

I'm with you on that one. Been playing up one to four classifications most all season.

I think they're better than their record, and maybe underrated here.

  7. I can't recall any teams we played in the ACAC in the 80's doing that, or hearing about any Fort Wayne schools.

It's pretty common in Texas.  There are many schools where guys rig up an air tank to horns on a golf cart and those things can get loud!

One of the teams in the area, nicknamed the Pirates, bring a small cannon to the games.  The barrel looks about 3' long, maybe 6" outside diameter.  It's very loud, too.  They shoot it for TD, PAT, FG, 1st downs, interceptions, fumble recoveries.....  Gets a little annoying, but that's probably part of the reason they do it.

Yep!  Kind of like the Sectional of Death up this way.

I was in one of those 10-team districts that beat the cr*p out of each other trying to get one of those coveted spots and then getting wiped out in area.  They finally got us in an 8-team district recently and split the schools in our school district across two football districts.  If I'm not mistaken, the new alignment means that there are now no more than nine teams in a 6A football district.

Yeah, 9's the limit, and there are a lot of districts on the limit.  They get 1 game, that "doesn't count", to work out the kinks.

  9. Don't know more about NJ than what I've read here and a little on the 1A thread, but they're running game sure seems to have a lot of people's respect.  With a lot of talk about the fullback (IIRC from the 1A thread) what do they run?  Flex bone, wish bone?  The FB in our slot-T, way back in the day, didn't get as many carries as teams we played that ran an option offense.

We played at Heritage in 2006 in a torrential downpour. When the referee set the ball the dang thing near floated away. We threatened to score but we fumbled on the 3 yard line.  Heritage came down and scored to go up 6-0. Heritage missed the extra point and the rest of the game was football follies.    Heritage and Cass had a good little rivalry going in the early to mid 2000's before sectional realignment. Seeing Heritage under your moniker reminded me of this night and that game.  Coldest, wettest and sloppiest game I have seen.  If the game would have been played on turf I wouldn't have had that memory (LOL).  Im not sure anyone in Northeast Indiana should have been playing on October 27th 2006.

2006 was the year we moved from IN to TX.  Late October up there has the potential to "interesting"  One of those nights when you want to be on the field, not on on the side line, so you can keep moving and stay somewhat warm.  You def don't forget those epic weather games!

  11. I played Indiana HS football in the 80's.  Yes, the condition of the field at the end of the season was def not as good as the start, but I don't remember our field or competitors fields being dangerous/unplayable parcels of ground.  All of a sudden it's almost akin to child abuse to have the kids play on grass in Nov/Dec?  Can't remember anyone ever complaining about the game fields or even the practice fields, for that matter.  Also don't remember an inordinate amount of foot/ankle/leg injuries late in the season vs. early on.  They conditions were what they were.  We were just happy to be out there knocking the crap out of each other.

Probably because we didn't have anything else, we didn't know what we were missing.  Now with continuously more schools being turf, I can see how a grass field in late season might not look as attractive to those used to turf, and yes a good turf field keeps the game more consistent in bad weather conditions, I'll admit that.

This curmudgeon still prefers grass and no one's changing my mind.  I know I'm stuck in the past on this, sorry.

I think if we had cried about deteriorating field conditions when I played, the coaches would have told us to HTFU.

We have our own grass soccer field at New Palestine, but when we replaced our grass football field - which had major drainage problems on one end and was basically a mess by October every year - with turf, the field went from being in use about 15 times a year (5 varsity, 5 JV and 5 freshman games) to one that's used about 250 days a year. Football practices on it, soccer teams both practice on it when football isn't using it, baseball holds offseason workouts there (softball did, too, until a new turf softball diamond was built a couple years ago, as a building expansion encroached on the old softball field), marching band practices on it every Thursday night and Saturday mornings when there's no JV football, PE classes use it, junior high plays one game a year there, local soccer clubs rent it for practices and games. And also, if we've had any rain that might cause the soccer field to get chewed up, they can easily move a game to the turf football field. It's not ideal - soccer doesn't play well on turf because the ball runs like crazy and the sidelines are very narrow - but it's a really solid solution that allows the field to get a LOT of use.

Being in TX helps - you don't quite have the harsh late-fall weather we have. By the time October rolls around, the field is largely concrete here in Indiana because the ground hardens and the grass begins to die.

I remember, I played on it in the 80's.  Def nice not having the harsh fall/winter weather.

This year has been difficult for grass fields.  Extreme drought conditions in central TX nearly all summer and water rationing in my area.  I'd hate to see the high school's water bill!

  13. Our field was, and still is, grass.  Takes a lot of work, and water, especially in TX.  Probably 3/4 of the schools we played in reg season were also grass.  My boys didn't have a problem with it, liked the cushion of grass up to about mid-season, and absolutely loved playing on grass in the rain.

Once playoffs rolled around the kids looked forward to playing on turf at the bigger schools stadiums (TX is all neutral sites post season).  Said they felt faster and could make cuts better.  Also liked being able to wear their "white out" away uni's.

Pros and cons to both.  Turf has it's advantages but the old-schooler in me says football should be played outdoors on grass, no matter what level (HS/NCAA/NFL).

When I was playing, and when my kids were, the team student managers washed the uniforms.

They were mentioned in response to another person as to "what was wrong with LCC?"  I merely expanded that idea that there are new private schools or other private schools in the area are not necessarily tied to there being something wrong with LCC.

I don't necessarily think that Faith will never have football; especially if their school continues to grow.  For a long time, they had sports, but weren't an IHSAA member ... although they played many of the IHSAA schools from the area.  They eventually joined the IHSAA and are now part of the post-season "festivities."  Incidentally, Faith has had folks who have played football in youth programs of other local schools that left Faith to continue playing football when they hit high school ... the vast majority with local public schools.

Edit: Faith might decide, if they get larger, that football helps preserve some of their enrollment without a negative impact.  When they first started out, they were small where fielding football would have been a huge undertaking.  As they get closer to 300, the cost of football, as well as potnetial risk against resources, goes down; especially if it helps retain some students.

    Good point.

Another possibility could just be a lack of interest in football, until the right group of admin/parents/students shows up.  Look at Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian.  Been around since 1973 and just now, almost 50 years later, entering the football ranks.  I personally know several people who graduated from there.  Can't say for sure, but I don't believe money has been an issue, at least for a while.  They were reasonably competitive in the sports they had and maybe were content with that, until something or someone changed their mind.

Jay County at Adams Central ©, 7 pm
South Adams at Heritage ©, 7 pm
Southern Wells at Carroll, 7:30 pm
Woodlan at Bluffton ©, 7 pm

    AC wins big

SA wins in a close one...This is the most intriguing match-up in the ACAC. Is Heritage ready to push SA & AC? I expect them to be improved, but they might be another year away.

    Carroll Flora by a lot

Bluffton by 14...Woodlan has struggled against the run and Bluffton rushed for a bunch against SA. I expect quite a few points to be scored in this one by both teams.

    AC by whatever they want.

I'm going against my alma mater and picking SA by 2 TD's.  Bad as I want Heritage to beat a team like this, from what I've been told they just ain't quite there yet.

Carroll by as much as they want.

    Bluffton by a couple TD's.

I did a double take when I saw Carroll - guess I don't remember them from last year?  Obviously, knew it wasn't FW Carroll, although they were on our schedule in the early-mid 80's.  But Carroll was a lot smaller then, too.
