    Adams County Athletic Conference

I see what you did there. 😉

As a Heritage alum I would love to see them put together a winning season and maybe go a round or two in post.  They seemed to be pretty down with the previous coach and it can take a few years to turn some programs around. 4-6 ain't too bad for a rebuild team, but 6-4 (trying to be realistic) would be nice.

No clue what's up with Southern Wells.  I'll have to get some intel from my wife's side of the fam, if I can.  She graduated from there. Couple years ago they didn't even field a team, right?  I remember when I was playing (82-85) if you had SW on your schedule you were going to get at least one win.  They had a few good teams over the years, but IMO just not the football buy-in from the community.  IIRC, they were more of a basketball school.

Agree with @FlyingHigh on the pecking order at this early date.

Their are Ten Conferences of 8 Man Football in Michigan

Here is a link to their historical results

Lots of schools up here play 8 man, but it hasn't panned out how I think some intended it to.   A lot of communities hope that 8 man football will help a struggling 11 man program "gain traction" and then when numbers increase, the school will go back to 11 man football.   To my knowledge that has never happened.  Once you make the choice to go to the 8 man format, it seems to be a forever type decision.

Same in Texas, but with 6-man.  Only know of a couple schools who went up to 11-man, since I've been following, but many schools who went from 11 down to 6.  Some schools are destined to more or less stay at their current enrollment (geographical, economic, other reasons) and for them, fielding an 8 or 6 man team is better than not playing at all IMHO.

Agreed.  Mr. Manchin at least appears to support some form of fiscal sanity in Washington, and hasn't swallowed the MMT kool-aid.

If we only had two more Dems just like him, that would balance out the three RINO's (Romney, Murkowski & I forget the 3rd one).

But, isn't this what's happening now with property taxes for Joe Homeowner?  My property value increased 40% (yes, that's not a typo) this year, and if were not for the homestead exemption, my tax bill would have went up accordingly.  Down here homestead limits tax increase to a max 10%/yr.  If our homes increase in value, we pay taxes on that even though we haven't sold.  Then when we sell, if the dollar amount is high enough, we get hit with capital gains tax.  Unfair for the 1% and unfair for us, too.

I think it could be, but it could also take out some smaller schools that might be willing to go through that maintenance or have nicer grass fields.  I know that LCC's baseball field is a nice grass field for a 1A/2A school.  The football field also holds up remarkably well for a grass field.  For 1A/2A contests, I think it would be OK with parking ... although, historically, they have had to do grass parking for Pioneer and the re-start game against West Lafayette.

My other concern for a turf requirements, and I'd probably need to take a look at @crimsonace1's map that he created for more clarity, is are there some 1A/2A schools that aren't close by some of those 6A/5A turf schools.  It might be six-one-way, half-dozen-the-other on travel since they might be playing someone on the other end of the north or south part of the state, but at least in that travel component one gets to be home.

I'd be interested in whether there's a difference in that thought process for smaller schools vs. larger schools too.  Before I moved to Indy, I was a big-school football bigot.  I came from a school in Texas that would be 6A classification in Indiana and would be top 10 in Indiana by enrollment.  While home field was nice, being on the road wasn't really on the player's minds except in maybe a handful of schools.  Since coming to Indiana, I've absolutely fallen in love with small-school ball and learned A LOT about the character across the classes and it seems to me, solely my opinion though with no statistical data behind it, that home field plays more in the psyche for smaller schools than larger on average.  Sagarin has, for the last few years, provided less than 2 points advantage for home field ... last year it was just 1.28 for the whole state.   I wonder if that's really evenly-distributed across the classes or, like I saw with big schools, at least in Texas, not that big a thing, but maybe much more for smaller class ball.  Might that have an impact in which classes or programs all-out embrace neutral semi-state fields vs. those that are going to look much more at cost-benefit?

As the father of boys who played Texas small-school ball (2A in a 1A-6A state & 2A being the smallest 11-man schools) I agree with this statement, and remembering back to my days playing ball in Indiana for what was then a 2A school, the same would have been true - if we had ever made it deep into post season.  I believe our kids would def have had a mental advantage.

But..... The only time our small schools ever got to play on a big, modern field was post season.  Our 2A kids out there on a 4A-6A field with turf, plenty of seating, fancy scoreboard (some with jumbotron), high-end sound system, professional announcer, nice locker rooms, good lighting.  They felt like they had hit the big time.  Plus both teams get penalized about the same with regards to long bus rides, etc.  There are a handful of small schools here that have top shelf facilities, but typically they're the perennial powerhouses or have a power plant in their back yard.  So for us small guys the neutral (fancy/modern/cool) site is a sizeable bonus.

There's no shortage of big schools who don't make the playoffs, yes I know different from Indiana, that have a nice facility.  But by the time you guys get to regional/semi's I would think you would have options.  Also, not sure how they do it here, but I've heard the host school gets some cut from the night's takings after the UIL (Texas' IHSAA).  One thing I've never heard in nine years of h.s. football was logistic problems.  I realize Indiana is a much smaller state, but still by the time the last couple weeks roll around, most everyone's been eliminated.

I think it's a great idea.  I'll bet the players would lie to do something like that, as well.  Indiana school plays a Texas school, in Texas, one year - then they flip the following year.

Might be a bit of a job working out the travel logistics, but if the western states can do it....

"like" not lie.  I don't know, maybe some of them would lie to be able to have a travel game lol.

So, why don’t the ADs of the (no more than a dozen) schools that might conceivably take advantage of a liberalized travel rule get together, propose a change, and then lobby their fellow ADs to support it, since they don’t have a dog in the fight?

I realize that to most high school football fans the season ended after the Center Grove - Westfield game.   However, for this guy it is just a start to the "best time of the year".      Starting with Wednesday nights Alabaster (AL) Thompson - Phenix City (AL) Central game, I must have watched all of or portions of twenty plus high school games on NFHS.    For those of you who don't want to watch Army-Navy next weekend, I suggest you fork down $10 for a subscription and watch all the high school football you want.   Once the season is over, it is easy to cancel your subscription.     A few thoughts as I wind down the weekend:

    - Some states, Arizona being the most prominent, have created an "Open" Division playoff system.    What I mean is that they take the best eight teams in that state and those teams are in a separate playoff while all others play in the tournament based on enrollment.    For years Arizona would have several teams in different classes claiming to be the best in the state, now they actually settle it on the field.    Rhode Island, which has four teams in its "Open Division", takes it a step further by allowing the losing teams in the first round to drop into the Division I tournament.    May sound crazy but they do not have any arguments who the best team is at the end of the season.

    - Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei is two touchdowns better than anyone in the country.    They play this coming weekend in the Open Championship against a very good San Mateo Serra team, but it should be a formality for the team that has beaten Anaheim Servite (twice), St. John Bosco and Corona Centennial.     And if you thought Byrce Young was good for Alabama yesterday, wait until you see sophomore starting quarterback they have this year.

    - Congrats to Bobref, as his Eagles won the Division 1 tournament in Ohio.    They beat some very good teams along the way in one of the nations' toughest tournament brackets.

    - For some reason, Texas teams just appear to be bigger and faster than teams in other states.     Caught a few minutes of the Duncanville-DeSoto game last night and was really impressed with Duncanville' size and speed.    By the way, Mater Dei beat them 45-3 earlier in the season in Texas.

    - Finally, how do I think Center Grove would fare against these teams.   I think their defense could hold their own, but don't know if their offense is powerful enough to win a shootout against teams like Collins Hill (GA), Austin (TX) Westlake and others that are ranked in the Top 20 in the country.    It would have been great to see them against a Lakewood St. Edwards team, but it never came to fruition, so we will never know.

Because they are.  Bigger, faster, stronger, meaner!!  Lol JK

BTW, I had to do a double take when I saw the Mater Dei score - until I figured out it was the Cali MD.

CG v. Austin Westlake or similar would be an interesting matchup.  Too bad IN teams can't do that kind of traveling.

The Arizona "Open" deal sound interesting but I can't imagine a 2A or 3A team duking it out with a 5A or 6A team.

    Passing thought:

I know the SIAC has had a thread that has lasted all season, and the HHC thread has been going since 2019. How about a NEIGN (Northeast Indiana GameNight) thread for next season? I know the SAC has some supporters on the forum, and so does the NE8, ACAC, and NECC, just not as many as some of the other conferences. It'd be nice if people from NE Indiana could have their own dedicated thread instead of being spread out across the forum. Said thread would encompass 35 teams across 4 conferences. Any thoughts?

    I like it.

Sirloin Stockade is closed but there is a Texas Roadhouse in Marion now along with Popeye's and McCalisters.  Then there is Ivanhoe's in Upland, Obi's BBQ in downtown Marion, Pappy's in Gas City (BBQ), and a few Mexican places to enjoy.

Mississinewa lost their starting QB the first game of the season when he tore his ACL.   Mississinewa has 2 track State Finalists sprinters on the team, one is a RB and another a WR.  Mississinewa throws the ball when needed but when 2 RB's average a first down with each touch there isn't much need to throw the ball.  Both RB's average over 100 yards a game.

The wife and I, back when we were dating, used to frequent Ivanhoe's a fair amount.  Not too long of a drive from her place (SW wells county).  Great ice cream & burgers.  Took the kids there once in a while, too.

Does Eastbrook go into the playoffs 9-0 or even 8-1 if they play in Luers conference though? I'm sure if Luers played Eastbrooks schedule they would be an unblemished 10-0 and a lot healthier than it sounds like they are. I'm not trying to knock Eastbrook, their conference, or record, winning every week is hard no matter who you play. I just think there is a gap in the level of competition between the two conferences which in my opinion makes Luers record more impressive than Eastbrook and more of the team to beat.

This is what I've been thinking, too, and about both Eastside/Eastbrook.  Does either of them go thru the SAC with the same record as the Knights?  It's why I asked the question about strength of schedule several posts ago.  But you know the old saying about what can happen any given Friday night....

Will have to pull for Luers this week, but if they win and if Eastbrook wins, will be a tough call the following week.  The benefit for everyone is these next couple of games should be pretty awesome and that's good for everyone.

Luers has to be more disciplined. Way too many penalties vs. P. heights. Can't have that from here on out.

Players and coaches need to be in the game. After a score you should know who is suppose to be on field. you've played 10+ weeks now. This should be automatic.

Can't have a slow start. Especially on D.   Davis and #34, will run all over you. Two years ago Eastside beat Luers. Last year Luers narrowly pulled out the win. This team will not be a pushover.

Be ready. Don't have the mindset that all you have to do is just show up and you'll win. I guarantee if Luers does. They'll be getting ready for B-ball after next week.

There's someone on the Eastbrook-Tipton thread already looking ahead to the "inevitable" Eastbrook vs. Eastside matchup.  One game at a time fella.

Ain't taking nothing away from Eastside, but gotta go with Luers in this one.  Has Eastside played as difficult of a schedule as Luers? Not as familiar with some of their opponents as I am with SAC teams.

    Run what you brung.

I guess these turf teams that have to play on grass better invest in some good old school cleats.  It works better if you file the last 1/8 inch or so of plastic from each cleat, so that the end of the metal post is exposed.

"Back when I played" we used shoes with removeable cleats.  We had two different lengths for sure, and I seem to remember possibly three.  Only downside is sometimes one would back out.

Played/practiced more than I care to remember on wet/muddy surfaces.  Survived just fine and absolutely loved it.  Turf vs. no turf sometimes seems like a first world problem to me.  But I understand, the game changes based on the type and quality of playing surface.

One of the really exciting 1st round match ups along with others ,Jasper/ Northview being just one of the others, that maybe wouldn’t of happened with the 1vs6 or 1vs8 boring seeding games.

They might have met up further down the line, where they both deserved to be. Still an exciting game, just deeper in the playoffs. Hate seeing one top notch team knocked out by another top notch. That could water down the 2nd round where a good team could face a poor team. I'd rather see an epic games later when all or most of the good teams are present.

But this is a point the forum will never come to agreement on. Just have to agree to disagree.

  14. In town visiting family & watched highlights of this on the news. Looked like one of the better games in the area.

I know I'll get flamed for what I'm going to say, but, this 1st round matchup between two top-tier teams is a good argument for seeding. No way they should have seen each other this early.

Michigan Professor Survives Cultural Revolution, Succumbs to Campus Wokeness

    https://www.nationalreview.com/2021/10/michigan-professor-survives-cultural-revolution-succumbs-to-campus-wokeness/

I truly fear for the future of this country, with institutions like UofM graduating such snowflakes.

"In 1960s China, any professor who pushed back against Maoist Communism was ousted from the profession — or worse. Today, academics who contradict the established leftist orthodoxy are increasingly prohibited from teaching their students."

If this country continues down the path it's on, we will be the "Maoist" USA.  Fall in line with the narrative or else: cancelled or retrained, take your pick.

My father was born and raised in Germany, the part that was east Germany.  He was in school during the time Hitler was in power, and for several years when the communists took over after WW2.  Unlike most of us, and probably most government officials/political activists/academia, he actually lived under fascist/totalitarian & communist governments, and witnessed their rise to power.  Think about that for a second.  All these talking heads in the media, who read about it and think they have it all figured out, how many of them have actually been through the real thing?  The stuff he is hearing and seeing today is deja-vu.  Told me after the WW2 and the Cold War, and all the lessons the world supposedly learned about oppressive governments, he truly thought he would never witness the things he's witnessing now.  He's told me the stuff they're coming up with and how they present it are very similar in many cases to what they were told pre-WW2 and even some of it while the Soviets were installing their puppets in the east Germany.  It might be taking longer this time, but in his opinion the results will be the same.  The cancel culture especially, government mandating more, FBI investigating parents for daring to speak their mind and have a say in what their children are taught, the list goes on.  The entire body of work reminds him of 1930's Germany and post WW2 east Germany.

I'll bet some here will take issue with this post, and that's fine.  At least for now, we can still agree to disagree.  Just words from someone who has gone through this twice before in his lifetime..  At least we can agree that we all enjoy high school football.

What freaking dream world is she living in? English & Sociology major and working in politics from the get go. No real world business experience. Not surprised at these comments.
