This LaSalle team is athletic, but doesn't appear to tackle as well as teams in the past...If our D-Line is aggressive and dominates the LOS we should have the advantage...Road game, long travel, later start for them (time difference) are all a plus for the home-team...I hope we are able to sub players in and stay fresh/in attack mode

    What time difference?

Avon @ Westfield:  The Orioles seem to be improving at least in the box score as they earned a moral victory on homecoming last week in a narrow loss to Fishers.  A big problem awaits this week however as they travel to an angry Westfield team coming off of back to back losses for the first time since 2019.  This one may get out of hand early.  Westfield gets back on track and rolls 38-14.

I am in agreement with your picks.  Just want to point out that Avon has been in the game each week until late 2nd qtr or halftime. Then the opposing defense adjusts and they are done.

  3. Not much action on the HCC thread.  Just when they "might" be challenging the MIC for strongest conference.

I'll give Avon a little more motivation considering it's homecoming:

    Fishers 31   Avon  23

FC/Noblestucky- this is the most difficult game to predict. The Millers at home should prevail...   but they won't.

    FC   28  Noblesville  27

The big one at Brownsburg (until week #9)  Dogs  38  Rocks  24

Zionsville played very well on both sides last week. But HSE is tier one in the conference.

    Royals  24  Zville  14.

Warren Central getting a higher vote total than Lawrence Central is absurd.  Do results on the field matter or do they not?

I would put Ben Davis at #3 in 6A.  Their two losses were to the top two teams by the slimmest of margins.  A Brownsburg DB getting his fingertips on the ball on 4th down prevented Ben Davis from catching the game-winning TD.

...or, a Brownsburg DB made a great play in sticking his fingertips on the ball to break up a TD pass.

  5. I think you are being a bit too kind to Avon.

    F C  41

    Avon  21

Brownsburg is indeed a "Top 4" team in the state.  They will play like it.

    Bulldogs  31

    Fishers     17

HSE had Westfield beat in Sectionals last year only to give up a last minute drive and a game winning FG. I think HSE will be ready and the Rocks just aren't the dynamic team this year.

    Royals  24

    Rocks   20

Zionsville will survive at home with their defense.

    Eagles  27

    Millers   20

Bless is in his 60's.....and likely coaching his last six games at Avon

My bad, my math was off.  He graduated HS in 1980. So he's 60 years old.  I don't think he wants to retire, but unless there are things beyond his control I agree he may be moving on.  I had heard last year that Danville had 4-5 starters that came from Avon.  And they were state runnerups.  We shall see...

Avon was 9-0 on the morning of 9/1/19. A loss to Brownsburg that night started a stretch of going 6-18. Unreal. Would love to hear from Oriole insiders the factors that are driving these results. I'll take Brownsburg by whatever margin of victory they choose.

Yeah your dates are off but I get the point. They were ranked no.1 and were 9-0 heading into sectionals in 2019. Upset by Brownsburg in the 1st game.  Since then...ugh.  Personally I don't know what is different now, but I would think this would be a well sought after position as head coach. But, Bless is only is his early 50's, so if he wants to retire from Avon he needs to right the ship and soon. I love the Avon Marching Black & Gold, but most want to see quality football, the band doesn't need the love!

Agree with you on that, however, there are exceptions where this state will have an outstanding team that can compete on a national level with anyone.   For instance, the 2003 Warren Central team (the Desmond Tardy team).    I recall traveling to Ryle, Kentucky to watch them play Cincinnati Elder, the year after Elder had won the Ohio Division I title.   We sat on the Elder side and all they did prior to kickoff was rip Indiana high school football.    I tried to tell them that Warren Central was a very good team, but it fell on deaf ears.    We left the game with about three minutes left with Warren Central ahead something like 43-24.   It may not be the correct score, but I do recall that Warren Central's punter was never on the field.   You are correct that most years it would be tough to stack up against a team like IMG Academy.   But we will never know until our teams get an opportunity on the field, which I think will lead to our teams being better from the experience.

I am very familiar with all of the top 5 teams and I will tell you without being able to be proven right or wrong (bc we will never know) New Pal can compete and beat anyone one of them.

How many players play both ways for New Pal?  It is this reason (if it's more than 1 or 2) that New Pal could not survive a 6A schedule. But yes, on a given night, they are as good as anyone.

Did someone mention about O'Neill being injured?  I sure hope that is not the case.  Special talent.  CG lost all-state tailback Drew Wheat for the season in the opening quarter last week against WC.  Simply sucks when this happens to a young person, especially their senior year.  I know Danny has another season to play, but let's hope he is just fine.

I believe coach was quoted as saying O'Neill has a hip pointer.

Did you attend the Avon/LN game? Curious to know if Avon's offense started clicking too late or if it was more of a result of LN's D letting up.

I did not. I would imagine IMO that the offense made adjustments at the half.  They have a potent passing attack.  I'm guessing that if they want to beat BD, they will have to outscore them. Like... 41-38 type of score.  Doubt that will happen though.

Mt. Vernon couldn't handle Noblesville's O-Line last year and it was a blowout. Some late 2nd half scores by Mt. Vernon kept the score closer than what it was earlier in the 2nd half. I'll take Noblesville by 7-10 this year.

Mt. Vernon game #1 vs Mt. Vernon state champions... totally different team.
