  1. All depends on what the Defense gives us. I can't make any assumptions based off of the scrimmage.
  2. BNL moved the ball well and found the endzone a lot. Mitchell didn't find the endzone until halfway through the 3rd rotation (option B) against reserves. BNL subbed JV kids last 5 plays on the 15-play first rotation, last 5 plays of the 10-play 2nd rotation, and last 6 plays of the 12-play 3rd rotation. Takeaways: We made lots of mistakes, and still performed how we were supposed to. I believe we came out injury free. Mitchell had a huge gate.
  3. I don't know who they scrimmage, coach. I'd gladly substitute BC for Mitchell as well. The last 3 years, BNL has performed well against Mitchell in the scrimmage, and in my opinion, gained an unrealistic sense of ability. We meet up with Martinsville in week 1, and it takes us 2 quarters to get acclimated to better competition. We play catch-up the rest of the game. The talent gap between OV and Martinsville is smaller than the gap between Mitchell and Martinsville (even in OV's typical mediocre years....they play in a tougher conference.) I think OV would push us more and expose more weaknesses. The other reason....this game turn's into, "let's beat the other team" type of competition, because of close proximity, old rivalries, kids switching schools, etc. It's just not constructive for BNL. BNL is closer to OV than any other HHC school besides Seymour, and that's only by a few miles.
  4. The scrimmage is the first place you get to find out what you need to fix. It's there to expose those hidden weaknesses. I've seen plenty of instances, not just with these two teams, where team A runs roughshod over team B in the scrimmage. Team A goes on to get punched in the mouth week 1 because weaknesses emerged that they didn't know they had. Team B gets the same because they didn't know what to focus on that next week. So, I agree, it's not about the competition, it's about getting the "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed.
  5. Who does everyone scrimmage Friday? Are you happy with your opponent? Who would you rather scrimmage? BNL @ Mitchell. I understand why we scrimmage them, the county rivalry thing, but I think both teams would be better served to find new scrimmage opponents. I'd like to see the Stars scrimmage Owen Valley.
  6. Maybe familiarity, I don't know. I'd like to see us schedule someone comparable, and closer. We've won 7 out of the last 10 meetings. If you can schedule in 1/3's: 3 teams you should beat, 3 teams you have to play good to beat, and 3 teams you have to play your absolute mistake free best to beat, they have their place.
  7. BNL's season is going to live/die, sink/swim, succeed/fail based on the health of their core O-linemen. We have 6-7 quite capable of dominating opponents. A lot of underclassmen after that. We have a lot of capable skill positions on both sides of the ball. Upside: 1 or 2 players, maybe, playing full time both ways. A few more contributing on both sides of the ball. A lot of 1-way starters. Downside: We lost a lot of good, impactful seniors last year.
  8. Barker was an assistant under Weber. Prior to that, he played for Steve at Linton as well.
  9. 10 years ago, this thread would've been 15 pages by today. Quietest Miner SS thread in the history of the Digest. I assume, haven't watched any film, that MD wants to pass the ball. The Miners are going to run it. Who will the cold weather affect more?
  10. Hard to believe in the 100+ history of Linton/sullivan, Friday night will be the first time these two meet up in the post season.
