  1. Classy is playing hard, competing, and living with the results. HH fans, players and coaches were classy. Their members on this board show class. Incessantly whining is never classy.
  2. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a successful team. Good luck against that HH team over the next 2 years if you have to play them. Like I said, I know nothing of them as I have only lived in Indiana for three years. I’m still learning my way around.
  3. Because I know nothing about Jasper can you give me some history? How many state finals appearances do they have? What about semi-state? Any Regional wins? Sectional? Thanks
  4. HH QB will be a very good player. Probably makes it back to LOS once or twice more. Not sure I would have him starting on defense and returning kicks, though. He looked tired by the 4th Q. Heck of an effort by that young man, though. Hopefully this inspires some kids at HH to play football next year. It would help them out tremendously. Their near future is bright with Jett as their QB. That said, I’m not sure Chatard fields a defense this good for a long, long time. They are deep, fast, disciplined, tough and smart. It gave the offense the opportunity to grow and make some mistakes during the year.
  5. Then it should be fun to see this Jett kid against the best 3A defense this year. Especially since he is just a sophomore. If he can navigate the game even remotely well then he should be exciting to watch over the next 2 years.
  6. Cuz I don’t watch the Macy’s parade and NFL pregame shows stink, I watched the HH/Batesville game. HH was so close to losing that game yet seemed to be more comfortable against GS. Which game was a better representation for HH? Against Batesville they won the turnover battle (Batesville’s QB might want to not throw jump balls. The first two INT’s were ill advised) but also needed two big plays to even be in the game (the QB long TD and the scrambling long pass). Do they live and die by the big play?
  7. The recipe, that nobody has yet been able to fulfill, is grind out 3 yard runs, stay in front of the chains, milk the clock and protect the ball. Mix in an occasional safe pass and hope to pop a big play in the running game or in the return game. Finally, try to keep your players fresh. I realize that it is a big ask but it is’t impossible.
  8. The WR/S for Chatard only played WR in the semi-state game so I think there will only be one two-way starter.
  9. Bluto: What? Over? Did you say 'over'? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!... It ain't over now, 'cause when the goin' gets tough, the tough get goin'. Who's with me? Let's go! Come on!... IYKYK I’ll always have a soft spot for the underdog in a big game.
  10. 2 random jerks? 2 particular jerks? I guess that really depends on the total number of jerks who are on this site then you narrow it down to the number of jerks who care about the 3A final. I think you have to carry the two i there somewhere then multiply by the number of mythical state championships that would have ben won by some random single A team in 1937. Then divide that by the “effective enrollment” multiplier. Then add 100%. But that’s just, like, my opinion, man.
  11. After a one year dalliance with Air Doyel it looks like Chatard has returned to their “run the ball and play stingy defense” roots. The starting defense is good. Real good. I’’m not sure if Knox gained 100 yards on the starters before the mass substitutions started in the beginning of the third quarter. The running game is mostly between the tackles and has a little bit of speed but nothing game changing. The passing game does just enough to keep the opposing defense honest. Does anyone have a quick synopsis of what HH brings? If we include your post then 4. Exactly 4 posts til P/P was mentioned.
  12. Hats off to the Knox fans. They traveled well. Great turnout. Good fight from your boys. Best of luck next year.
  13. Back to football. Has Knox played anyone this year? It looks like their regular season schedule is mostly 1A and 2A teams. They only beat 1A North Judson 22-18 and the best team they played all year, West Noble, they only beat 15-13. Are they forced into their schedule due to conference rules or is it just too far for them to travel to play decent competition? I realize that it is easier to find tough games in the urban areas but wouldn’t it be worth it for some of these teams to travel just to test themselves? If Chatard wins this game it will be the 10th hardest team they have played this year. Just a huge difference in preparation for the kids.
  14. Times were better before the damn Catholics showed up and started defending themselves!!!
  15. Not if that is all the room the school has. If they have additional room then yes.
  16. You keep turning to the money argument. Are you saying that because little Johnny’s parents have wealth he will naturally be a better athlete or are you saying little Johnny will have access to better training? If little Johnny’s parents have that wealth, and Johnny has that access, then little Johnny also has a wealth of other options. Johnny could play year round basketball or baseball. He could play lacrosse or soccer. Maybe swimming. Or theater. I had a distant cousin (Tommy Nola) who coached high school football in PA at a mid size Catholic school (Serra Catholic). He was a .500 coach. He then took a job at a 1A inner city public school (Clairton). After 4 straight state titles, a 66 game winning streak and a 136-22 record I asked him what he learned to become such a good coach. His answer. Have better athletes. It had nothing to do with money (Clairton is poor), access (those kids had basketball and football), or effective enrollment. I referenced Aliquippa earlier in this thread. They have none of the wealth and privilege that you seem to think separates football programs.
  17. I agree. The thing that I think is important is that in a winning environment those kids who would quit because they don’t get playing time actually stick around to be part of the program. Some of them then grow and eventually contribute. If they don’t stick around you instead see those kids in the student section on a Friday night and wonder “what if?”. Chatard had 52 freshman play this year. Out of a class of about 100 boys. The vast majority of whom will never see a meaningful snap on a Friday night but will play for 4 years anyhow. Those that do end up playing will likely be underrsized. Chatard’s RBs are all about 5’6 150 lbs. Their CBs are of similar size. Last years starting LT weighed 215 lbs. When we moved from another state to IN we came from a 6A school system (the largest class) and there were 350+ boys in his class. That team had 45 kids on the varsity football roster. The school averages 1 win a year. The student section on Friday nights was full of kids we coached in youth leagues who would have made that team significantly better. The youth program during his years was 45-4. Four kids are playing D1 football (multiple others are playing at lower levels of college). Three of them left before ninth grade started. They all went to the big Catholic school in the city. It ticked me off like it ticks off many of the people in Indiana but I didn’t blame the P/P school for offering a better future for the kids. They were just benefitting from a system that was built to encourage mediocrity. A system that they chose to navigate to their benefit. The one thing you will find in a successful program, P/P or otherwise, is a pride, passion and love of the team. Not saying other schools don’t have it but those who don’t will never build a successful program. It is a bedrock.
  18. And the person he replied to didn’t say what he accused him of “arrogant”-ly saying. Context clues are also important.
  19. So are you saying that a quality youth program has no beneficial effect on the HS program? The ignorance.
  20. Well then 35-7 Chatard. Knox scores late on the backups with a running clock. Similar to last week.
  21. In last years state finals it really looked like Lawrenceburg was determined to use this game plan. They had physical LBs to counter Chatard’s running game. They had a running game of their own to control the clock and keep Chatard’s offense off of the field. They got a timely turnover to keep Chatard out of the end zone and went into the half with the lead. Then they got behind. One solid Chatard drive (after a Lburg TO) on a short field changed everything. Chatard adjusted and widened their DEs, Lawrenceburg couldn’t hook the end and get the edge so they had to pass. Astonishingly, it looked like they had never practiced the forward pass all year. It was unbelievable. They fell apart in the third quarter because they couldn’t throw the ball. I think they threw interceptions on three straight passes. Not possessions. Passes. I have spent the last year wondering why a coaching staff would spend an entire year in pursuit of a state championship and think that they could just run and play defense (I know Chatard circa 1956-2008 or whatever). It was as if they never thought that they would have to play from behind. Had they developed even a moderately complimentary passing game they probably win the state championship last year. Honestly, I’m curious to know if Knox has the ability to not get behind and, if they do, throw the ball well enough to claw their way back into the game without crumbling under the stress.
  22. It seems that Center Grove has found some secret sauce. They aren’t a P/P. I’ve inquired as to what has made them such a recent powerhouse. It seems that two things are required: a strong feeder program and a large number of participants. The strong youth programs raise the floor for the “Jimmies and the Joes” and the large number of participants increases the odds of finding those studs that can set a program apart, ie raising the ceiling. Have one of the two and you will have an occasionally great team. Have both and you can have a consistently great program.
  23. Yes. They are not dedicated enough. It’s clearly a lack of internal effort. PS. Your comment made me fall out of my chair laughing. Great response.
  24. You really are obtuse. When you come to Chatard on Friday have your mommy bring your big wheel. There is a great place for you to ride it back behind the scoreboard. You should probably leave the football discussions to the adults.
