So I will take on the project (for fun) of seeding all of the teams according to their current calpreps overall state ranking. I’ll then post the hypothetical brackets according to @Frozen Tundra’s work from above. If I feel extra goofy I’ll run the games through their matchup predictor and post results for each round of the playoffs. Sectionals on Monday, Regionals on Tuesday, semi state on Wed and State on Thursday. I should have the seeded brackets up tonight

So now who has a contact at the IHSAA and can share this with them? Outstanding work, btw

@Titan32 Yeah. No fun in sending home a 7-2 team. Leave that for the commoners. Watching mids fight it out is never as enjoyable.

Selfishly I’d like to see BCHS play Tippy, Peru and HH. Might as well play new teams and have undefeated vs undefeated matchups each week.

@Lysander To solve the Sectional problem just get back to seeding the top 8 (or 10 or 12, whatever) and give them a first round bye. Blind draw the rest of the matchups. If a bumped up team is one of the best teams and gets seeded then they are nearly guaranteed to get to the “Regional” round. Assign 1 pt for a first round win (or bye), 2 for a second round win and so on. Change the success factor (for those bumped up) to 3 points over two years so they have to actually win at least one game and also say they can’t be moved down if they have been a seeded team for two years in a row. The next argument will be “Why do so many of those damn cheating Catholics get bye’s (and a week to rest) in the first round every year while everyone else has to beat each other up for the right to play them?”. We can solve that problem later.

Just a quick comparison of the teams in Sectional 28 based on highest ranked opponent (according to Calpreps) that they have beaten: Guerin: #1843 Brebeuf 34-29 Peru: #4495 Rochester 34-23 Tippecanoe: #2282 West Lafayette 35-13 Hamilton Heights: #3740 Lafayette Central Catholic 15-0 Oak Hill: #6594 Eastern 34-19 Maconaquah: #7806 Cass 43-26 Northwestern: #9535 Tipton 43-27 BCHS: #192 Cathedral 24-21 Great records are sometimes built on a foundation of sticks. I think the strength of this Sectional is misleading. Peru could beat Guerin. Northwestern could pull the upset over Maconaquah. Oak Hill might have a chance against Hamilton Heights (not very likely) but I think you could drop in any other 3A team in the Top 10 (excluding Knox. They would fit right in) and they still walk away with this Sectional.

Sounds like a fun chat. Maybe incorporate the preference by some to move the successful privates (and dominant publics) based on Calpreps Dynasty rating. I realize that is a bit much but not sure how much of a geek you are for this. Looking forward to seeing the thread. I’d be glad to help if you need it.

@BLACKGOLD2007 keep in mind that Sagarin does not include out-of-state games. With so many teams playing out-of-state competition you might want to lean towards calpreps. Not sure how each of them do their math but it would probably be best to incorporate each.

Just curious. Do you think that TV or BCHS got the shaft by not having seeded the teams? If it’s BCHS, I can assure you that they do not care who they play, the location or the round. If it is TV, would you just like to get to see them play and win few meaningless playoff games. The real “playoffs” don’t actually begin til Regionals. Sectionals are the participation trophy for all the teams. If they seeded the entire playoffs then that would encourage more teams to play super soft regular season schedules and disincentivize the regular season. You wouldn’t have seen top games during the season as each team would be looking to go undefeated. As much as some teams get the shaft each year during the playoffs wouldn’t you rather see great games during the regular season? As it is some of these 8-0 teams have schedules filled with uninspiring competition and will likely lose to teams with less impressive regular season records. If you really want seeded playoffs then the IHSAA needs to go to all Sectionals being at least 8 teams. 1A and 6A might have to expand. All teams play every team in their Sectional every year plus 3 or 4 at large games for a total of 10 (or 11) regular season games (this allows for 2-4 rivalry games a year that don’t count toward seeding). Winner of the Sectionals (only counting the head to head games) go to the playoffs. Everyone else goes home. Maybe Top 2 from each Sectional just to keep playoffs large. Now every game is important. The downside is that a short term injury to a star player can eliminate a team from the “playoffs” by week 4 if all of their early season games are in the Sectional. Just my opinion but what do I know? My takes are usually the least educated ones on this site.

@temptation The game, like the rest of Cathedral’s remaining home games, is being moved due to the problems with Arlington’s lights not working during their game vs Chatard. Apparently that was the last straw and Cathedral won’t play there anymore (unless it is a last resort. I’ve heard that they also have contacted UIndy about using their field.

If I heard correctly, one of the coaches for Andrean is Coach Doyle’s brother. I would expect this to be an annual game. Much as Chatard loves to play bigger teams to prepare for the playoffs, regardless of the outcome, this game will make Andrean better for their annual playoff run. I also wouldn’t expect Chatard to run up the score if that is an option. Expect a much lower scoring game than Sagarin predicts.

Probably closer to 24-0. Chatard’s offense is missing their top RB. Hopefully the starting G and QB play this week. The injury bug has not been kind to them this year.

Can we all stop talking about where all of these Catholic school kids are going? I was on the monthly recruiting call with the Pope and he said that the IHSAA was asking for more money to “fix” the rules in our favor. The Pontiff said that we need to keep it down in order to still be allowed to run “Operation Screw the Publics”. He wanted to thank all of you for your hard work and asked that you keep it up. Soon he believes the IHSAA will accept our proposal to be able to play with 12 players on each side of the ball and have our touchdowns count as 10 points. Thanks again for all that you do

Probably too soon to know but with the meat of their schedule mostly behind them it wouldn’t be shocking for them to be very cautious with his return to play. The sophomore who replaced him wasn’t too bad especially having taken probably zero snaps during the prep week. Should be interesting to see how they coach him up and develop a game plan specifically or his skills if they choose to give the starter a week or two to recover.
