  1. You are correct @Purdue Pete, I’m not originally from Indiana. Most of these high schools I’ve never heard of. Most of these cities I’ve also never heard of. As far as I know all or none of these teams could be from the other side of the bracket (I had no idea it was a north-south thing). Also, I have no clue (nor the time nor inclination to determine) as to which teams play out of state opponents. I assumed that it might be common. I was just hoping to spur some interesting chatter in a seemingly dead thread. Thanks for your help, though.
  2. Thanks @Purdue Pete but that list doesn’t tell me much. Much like the one I attached It’s a list of teams in order according to an algorithm. All of the algo’s are different (some, like yours, omit out of state opponents). So I am going to assume you believe that Lawrenceburg will beat Owen Valley and face Norwell at LOS/
  3. So now that Gibson Southern is out, who is the favorite from that side of the bracket? Does Owen Valley earn the spot as the team most likely to advance to LOS?
  4. @TheDoctor22 Sometimes taking the bait is the only way to break the fisherman’s line, steal his favorite bait and ruin his day. Why be a minnow when you can be a large mouth? Seems to me that the gap has narrowed for that mystery team that is lucky enough to “dominate a lower class”. I guess if a team isn’t smart enough to “maximize it’s advantages” it deserves what it gets. Just curious why GS didn’t make their 5star QB (a generational talent at this level for sure) play WR last year just to keep it fair? Oh, maybe because GS “maximized it’s advantages”. That seems really unfair. Maybe you should do the honorable thing and give last year's State Title to a more deserving “team”. On second thought, the idea of not maximizing advantages within the framework of the rules just sounds dumb, doesn’t it?
  5. Curious as to who is Gibson Southern’s biggest competition on their side of the bracket? Seems the left side of the bracket should be very entertaining with Chatard, WL, Guerin and Norwell. Will GS be challenged at all on their side?
  6. Looks like your #1 will potentially have to play, 3, 2c, 2a and 2b (in that order) if they hope to win it all. Should be fun to watch
  7. Just stopped in today to see if the news of a miracle was true. Apparently Jesus stopped into this thread and turned all of the watery tears into whine!
  8. As a person with no connection to that game (but in looking at the box score) it would seem that the bigger issues were Chatard averaged roughly 5.5 ypc with 1 fumble every 10 carries while GS averaged roughly 2.5 ypc with a fumble every 8 carries. The fumbles per carry were similar but the ypc weren’t. It seems like the 2-0 edge in interceptions was the real key. If GS struggled to run the ball, then being forced to pass in that game was their downfall (especially if they were primarily a passing team all year). I believe Woody Hayes said “Only three things happen when you pass the ball and two of them are bad”.
  9. For additional comparison, Guerin is 23 State and 1147 National Chatard is 17 State and 293 National Western Boone is 108 State and 5104 National Lawrenceburg is 122 State and 5906 National Norwell is 133 State and 6185 National Other than the two Catholic school outliers (whose SoS benefits from playing both playing each other, Roncalli and Brebeuf. Chatard also played Cathedral, Cincinnati Elder #4 D1 school in Ohio and Christian Brother’s Academy #2 6A school in MO. Guerin also played East Central) the top 8 seem to be pretty evenly matched in their opponents strength.
  10. Just went over to CalPreps and looked at the State and National SOS for those schools that are still undefeated. Team State National WL. 181. 9087 GS. 103. 4866 OH. 202. 9947 OV. 231. 10910 HC. 260. 11952 Of that group, GS looks like the most likely candidate since it would appear that they have faced the toughest challenges by a wide margin.
  11. @Titan32 Good enough explanation for me. Tradition should be honored and respected.
  12. Just curious: Is there a reason that the IHSAA doesn’t just have all teams play everyone in their Section plus two or three other games then take the regular season winner from each sectional based solely on their record within the sectional? Would’t it allow for rivalry games to still happen but then also let the actual winer off each sectional to be the team with the best head-to-head sectional title? I actually like the current system because it lets even the worst team believe with the right draw they can at least make their sectional final. The only teams that seem to have trouble with it are teams that get a tough first round draw (totally understand that as well). Thanks for the info.
  13. @fenderbenderDoes CalPreps also weight for loses because I would think that losing to Roncalli and Cathedral probably help much more given those two teams schedules ad records.
  14. @Purdue Pete Hard to tell what went on in the Chatard/Guerin game. Credit to the Guerin kids as they made all of the big plays (75 yd wr screen for a TD, ricochet pass off the Chatard WR that was intercepted and returned to the 1 yard line, double ricochet pass that landed in the Guerin WR hands for a 54 yd TD, multiple long KRs). Guerin was certainly far more disciplined as the yellow flags were plentiful against Chatard. Guerin was 1 missed 2 pointer from winning it (maybe that was Chatard’s one big play?). Much respect to the Guerin kids and coaching staff for their performance. After watching it I can't really say if Guerin is better than they played against Brebeuf and Roncalli, if Chatard is worse, if it was a trap game, who knows. I guess that’s why it’s fun that everyone makes the playoffs and gets to compete on the field.
  15. @Trojan If you are going to be at the game tonight you can find me near the 50 yard line in front of the press box. If you will be at the Trojan Horse I will be setting up the sound system.
  16. @TitanFootball Thanks for the invite but I only know my way around 1 of the 3 cities in Indiana. As far as I can figure they are 1. Indianapolis, IN. 2. LookMoreCorn, IN. And 3. FlatAsHell, In. I think I’ll stick to city 1 for the time being. Also, I’m curious about all the football teams in 3A. I think it’s great when a community supports their kids. Being proud of your boys (and/or girls) is great for the kids. Friday nights are special times, sometimes life defining (all hail Al Bundy!). I want to be happy for the team that catches lightning in a bottle because they have a generational talent come through town and lead them to their first State Title (even if some of their supporters come off as insufferable toddlers). I want to know about the team with a terrible school board who refuses to invest in their kids so the participation numbers are down and those few kids still go out and fight like hell every Friday for personal pride and love of a game because that is the type of toxic environment I had to get my kid out of so I feel for those kids. Maybe I’ll get the chance to travel there for a playoff game this year and I’ll take you up that popcorn.
  17. Thanks for the info @Titan32. What do you mean by “effective” enrollment? Is that an Indiana thing?
  18. @Donnie BakerWhen the “longtime booster” has nothing positive to add I will call him out. It seems this board is ok with internet bullies. All I’ve done in this thread is ask general questions. Just trying to learn but it seems that a Chatard parent isn’t permitted to ask questions. There are quite a few helpful people in here and I appreciate their feedback. You, like Titan, don’t ow the internet. If you don’t approve of my questions then don’t read them. Take a walk, breathe some fresh air, lose the anger.
  19. Call it what ever you want @titan32. Thanks for stopping by to add to the conversation. Now, do you have something constructive to add? If not, it’s just as easy to not type words. The added bonus is that it makes you look like less of a child. While you are here though, why don’t you tell me a little bit about Gibson Southern. I’d love to learn a few things about your boys. Good luck to them this year.
  20. Thanks @DumfriesYMCA. What about specific players? Upper classmen? Under classmen? Under the radar?
  21. No out of state yet for Chatard. Just Cathedral who is out of their league. After Guerin this week 2 of the last 3 are out of state and it will be rough.
  22. Thanks @Titan32 I do like that CalPreps better than Sagarin or MaxPreps. @DumfriesYMCA With SoS, how do they compute out of state opponents? Does it have a significant effect? If I’m just heading down a rabbit hole of nonsense (because they all use their own systems) just let me know. Being new to the state I am just looking for a way to objectively compare teams. If this is an old issue and has already discussed to death then I apologize for rehashing it.
  23. Defensive PI called in the endzone. Ball caught for the TD. Extra point kicked as normal. 15 yards DPI applied on the kickoff. I thought that it was either TD (penalty declined) or accept the penalty. As DPI isn’t a dead ball foul was this applied correctly?
  24. Thanks @DumfriesYMCA and @foxbatfor the explanations regarding scheduling. I had been browsing the M@xpreps site and looked at the IN 3A rankings and the strength of schedule numbers really pop out. I know they are meaningless when teams play H2H but it really gives some context to teams records and point differential.
