Then you didn’t see how bad they were smashed by merrillville and crown point recently. valpo I have no argument for except coaching cost merrillville in the regional last year. Why would you move your most effective weapon from RB to WR for the first time all year (Justin Marshall) he started the first drive at RB then I’m not sure he ran the ball much after that. They rotated in like 4-5 others at RB and moved Marshall to slot. Westfield well that’s a whole different story. The 2nd game westfield smacked them. That 1st game… at merrillville. Is questionable. With a ref being out of position at the end of the 1st half. It went from a potential merrillville 8 point lead. To a Westfield 6 point lead and then Westfield struck on the 1st drive of 2nd to make it a 2 possession game. but who am I. I’m just a fan. And everyone knows jojo Johnson catch was 3 feet down in end zone but it was called incomplete and that he was out the back of end zone. 🤷🏽‍♂️ not saying Merrillville wins game 1 but the game is called alt differently when you have a lead than being 2 possessions behind

Carroll is interesting but 2 years doesn’t really prove much. Before last two years they were ehh I’m not sure if the talent pool was good or if coach finally learned to close games out. But I’m hearing their defense might be a tad less dominant this year. They will definitely be a semistate contending team every year. And right now with them in 5A I’ll give FW the 6A north. Unless Penn ever shows back up

I wouldn’t say struggle is appearing in the final 4 4times in 5 years? Now breaking the Indy barrier. Well there could be many different reasons. I do truly believe that the north has better athletes but with that said the central/south (mainly Indy) have more opportunities when it comes to development for players. And they have most of the top coaches. The DAC was behind the ball for years when it came to developing the players. But they are slowly getting on track. Crown point just built an indoor facility. Lake central I believe has one. Merrillville has approved plans to build one. That will bring better strength and conditioning programs and more room for multiple kids to hit the grind. Merrillville weight room is honestly small for a 5/6A school. They do must of there training in the field house no weights. They do a lot of agility and speed training. Because they have to share the small room with many other teams from other sports. Valpo has probably around the same amount of D1s as merrillville and yes they won state which is great. But I don’t think any of the Valpo teams the 4 years prior would have don’t any better than merrillvile in 6A. Those teams would have lost to carmel/Westfield also. Indy is still ahead. But in a few years I think the DAC will close the gap some. And I will go on a limb and say the first north 6A state title team will not be crown point. It will end up being Valpo/merrillvile when they both are in 6A again.

I’ll say the ones I know off the top of my head for merrillville. merrillville: jo jo Johnson: Notre dame(tore ACL) then transfer to IU dierre Kelly (bowling green) justin Marshall (Colorado state) Lavarion logan ( Illinois state) kenneth grant (Michigan) Jordan Magee (Toledo then transferred out of D1 to Marion university) probably should of been there in 1st place. phillip gunn: ball state jerimiah Howard: northern Illinois Peter Rodriguez: started at auroura university and then walked on a played at IU. These are where they started not where they finished either. But 60% finished in D2 or NAIA which is cool. Any extra education is great. Merrillville the last 5 years has 7? Or 8? Just from them. Valpo I know has 6-7 crown point has at least 4-5 Chesterton had a few. It’s definitely an interesting topic. But I think if you got last 10 years the DAC has it for football. Now if you combine all sports I have no idea. Anyone know what crown points line is like this year? Or merrillville? Heard both of them are bigger than last year but haven’t seen for myself. Going to the CP week 0 scrimmage. And will see merrillville against my nephew at elkhart next week

They are getting transfers from westside/calumet/Griffith now. And they have 1 from lake central. The transfer portal is never closed for that school especially with the fact them and crown point are the only two schools in the area that will have certain things to offer the kids after next year (non athleticly) merrillville school is doing a massive expansion right now and is building a indoor sports facility next year like crown point did. But we will see how season plays out. I just hope the Tribe got .500 this year.

Funny thing is you guys still think I’m cody? Or parkhst? Everyone wants to talk returning starters doesn’t merrillville return 17? 18? They lost a QB/WR/S otherwise they had a bunch of juniors starting. And crown point is still overhyped. What have they done? They went undefeated and still couldn’t win a sectional. And that will repeat this year. God my kid plays for lake central. I know we will be okay but we aren’t gonna be a state contender. But you gotta play talented teams in scrimmages to test yourself. Valpo hasn’t scrimmaged anyone that actually has talent. I have no idea who merrillville has scrimmaged. I know they went to same camp at wabash? And I know they play my nephew next weekend when they scrimmage elkhart. But to say Valpo is head and shoulders the leader is a farce. you all do realize merrillville going for the TD in 1st half instead of the FG lost the game? That made FG wins the game. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Valpo controlled the 2nd half. But merrillville dominated the first. The game can been seen if you go back and watch it. Valpo won the game thays great. And who ever won that game was taking state. Just like this year who ever faces merrillville in the regional that’s the state title game. Truthfully I believe Michigan city takes Valpo out this year..

They played two teams that will he lucky to win a game this upcoming year… so yeah they should look amazing. If they didn’t that’s a problem. Their first test isn’t till penn. They don’t scrimmage anyone worthwhile. Michigan city I think scrimmaged Penn tonight? ANYOne know how that went?

Warsaw has been no match for the DAC. And recently FW hasn’t been either. Now the Indy schools in 6A maybe.

Valpo and merrillville and Michigan city have all been making runs recently. Crown point has to get up to their level of consistency. Would love to see portage and lake central finally show up but that’s a ways off

Hoosier football mentioned it. And it was actually a current coach on the staff this year that told me this information. His son is a senior on the team and a stud at that. May even be top 3 in state at his position And I agree but just because a coach has sucess doesn’t mean they get along. look at Valpo a few years back. I believe they were undefeated going into sectionals and there coach was forced out by the players during the state tourney and that’s how Marshall became the coach.. so I’m understanding.

I stand corrected merrillville and Valpo are tied with 15 sectionals and are tied in regionals. Only difference is merrillville did it in 6A recently and Valpo in 5A. I apologize for my mistake.

It’s just my opinion. Since 2000 they have been the most successful program in the DAC. They have the most sectionals,regionals,semi state appearances. Valpo has been to state twice?? Maybe 3 times which is great. But they don’t hold as many other titles as the likes of merrillville. And I can’t remember but I think crown point has more also? Not sure I don’t know where to go on the ihsaa website to find the sectional titles and things of that nature
