  1. I wonder how much this has to do with the prevalence of social media. Other teams/parents/fans (... and, apparently, random trolls?...) have been coming on the Luers' team and school social media pages as well as on game-related postings from sports pages and sites. with arm-chair analysis and, in many cases, trash-talk, including extensive commentary on the whole p/p debate. A lot of what is being said on the pages reminds me of the analysis, discussions, and debates that used to take place on GID. Some the posts have also been somewhat trolling and abusive... which is really inappropriate for a school's social media page. Luers let it go for a while (as long as it wasn't too bad) in the interests of Free Speech, but it reallynwasn't appropriate and they have started deleting it at this point. I wonder if people just aren't aware of the GID as a resource. Perhaps some sort of social media posts that advertised and/or linked to the site would re-energize participation on this site. Honestly, if this is happening everywhere, I bet the schools would really appreciate some redirection; game analysis and trash-talking really isn't what school pages are intended for.
  2. And Wayne took several more. Starters. Including QB. But, that is the way it goes. Sometimes kids transfer in, sometimes kids transfer out. It is what it is and they just gotta go with the goers.
  3. Yes. Luers lost semi-state at home in 2018. (I believe it was against W. Lafayette?) The loss to Andrean at home was the semi-state game in 2014. (That one I remember vividly, as it was the "Two and ten, never again!" year.)
  4. How would that be any sort of factor at all??? Oh. Wait. You think they accepted more football players because they went up to 3A by success factor? I think that might be less cynical... maybe more fanciful. In any case, that's nottwhat happened here. They didn't admit extra football players into the 9th grade class due to the success bump. But I am quite interested in how you imagine that could be a potential "thing." Do you imagine that freshmen football players would make an impact during a 3A "success factor" post-season run. This Luers team is "young" but not freshmen-young. My goodness!
  5. Luers had two 9th grade classes in a row. (This year was 20-25 kids more than usual, maybe?) It bumped them up into 3A this year -- by enrollment; even though they had already been moved by "success factor," they also now are there by enrollment. I think Luers total enrollment this year is around 530.
  6. Well... I am not sure that just tallying "Wins/Losses" without looking at *how* they won/lost is really the best way to look at it. For example: One of those Ls was to 6A Homestead. Luers lost 14-19. Luers also lost 0-8 against Dwenger - a 4A/5A perennial powerhouse. So... Hardly blow-outs. Luers beat 5A Northrop and 5A North Side. They beat 4A Wayne (with two D1 recruits on that team.) Now -- how does that competition (wins or losses) compare to the matchups that HH won?? Well... that's really the question isn't it?? And I suspect that no one can really answer it... until Saturday. Should be fun.
  7. Sounds like maybe it'll be a game then. Looking forward to seeing it. (You have to understand these things from our view: We heard the exact same tones of bravado with all the hype last year about North Posey... and it turned out to be just Sound and Fury, so it does leave one skeptical. And then with no real means of comparison... it is all just "wait and see." But an interesting game would be most welcome, outcomes notwithstanding.)
  8. People keep mentioning this kid, and only this kid. So... is there only one good player at HH, or what? Luers defense is fairly formidable. It will be helpful for HH that the QB is a hard-hitter, because there will be a need for some of that.
  9. Surely no one is casting aspersions on, nor even doubting the tenor of your urbanity. But, even so, the issue remains HH has likely not faced the type of competitive schedule that Luers played in the SAC.
  10. But to be fair... Luers got those stats playing against multiple 4A,5A, and 6A teams. I'm not sure who HH played to earn those stats, but I am guessing that it wasn't comparable. I am not saying Luers will win, but I am saying that those stats are not necessarily a reliable metric for forecasting the outcome of a HH v. BLHS matchup.
  11. That previous bump up to 3A coincided with the beginning expansion of the Indiana School Choice (voucher) program, so their enrollment increased at that time. It was coincidental. (The size of the football team actually slightly decreased at that time.)
  12. Fort Wayne Community Schools has had "open enrollment" for decades. So, in Fort Wayne, "the publics" DEFINITELY recruit. (As I personally heard a previous principal at FW Snider explicitly state.)
  13. Luers did play up for quite a while. They were 3A for years. Luers also plays up all season long; they do not even see another 2A team until playoff time. But... the thing about a small school is that one year you may have a whole stable of NFL players and the team could beat some college teams. But...then for several (or eleven) years after that, you will get the normal, average, everyday-type-of-talented athletes. I don't think anyone can look at the last eleven years and argue that Luers has been "too good" to be allowed to play in 2A. The kids on that team this year worked hard and that is why they one. They weren't clearly out-classing all of the other 2A teams... for crying outloud, most people I saw posting were picking N. Posey. Even the sports journalists were pretty split on their predictions, with the N. Posey probably being given the edge... at least in the ones I saw/read. So, even the "success factor" bump is potentially a little problematic. So... you move up a team based on success-factor, and for the next couple of years, the young team that has to take over after that State Champ team graduates is outclassed and getting pummeled (and often injured because they still only actually have 2A enrollment and all the kids play both ways while their opponents from larger schools are not necessarily undergoing that stress and strain.) I watched it happen, last time Luers got success-factored up. The injuries jumped those seasons. Kids were getting hurt. And for what? It isn't like we didn't understand the concept of graduation. We didn't think those seniors would be back for a fifth bite at the apple. If they had, then "success factor" definitely should apply. But everyone knew (or could have known) that the whole starting line-up was graduating. We couldn't anticipate the young kids taking over those roles were not likely to be as successful? Or that they might get hurt playing two-ways if moved up a class? Now -- I don't know that it would be the same problem this time. Luers only graduates 12 seniors this year. So, a lot of this team will be back. And there were a lot of juniors and a lot of sophomores already playing a lot of minutes this year. Maybe success factor would be a fair application in this year's case. I don't know what next year looks like, but I'd expect that Luers should make a pretty deep run again when this year's sophomores are seniors.
  14. You so sure? I think a couple of CYO teams might've been better than these guys: https://thecomeback.com/ncaa/earlham-college-division-iii-suspends-football-program-losing-streak.html
  15. Well... It is absolutely true that there have been years that the Luers team have been better than some college teams. Especially some of those "juggernaut" teams. But worth noting: No one is claiming that said college teams were D1 sides themselves. Lol.
