Temp’s Top 25 (Week 3)
Jetackow replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Gibbs plays both sides of the ball, but 90% is a stretch. Watch the public film. Also it is clear he is wasn’t even running the show against Merrillville. From what I’ve seen, when Crown Point has a solid lead, the second and third string rotate in after halftime. That’s why the score doesn’t reflect how the game actually played out -
Semi-State Championship Scores

Westfield played as advertised. They were the better team. On the home side we had many many open seats so I don’t think this is a fair assessment of the turnout for fans. Clearly more Westfield fans who didn’t have to travel but with the travel and the weather I would have expected the home side to overflowing. The stands could have all fit in the middle section. And we would have stayed warmer! -
Agreed. My point was more about the opponents, but I see now that I didn’t make that clear.
-
That’s correct—he is a senior. From what I’ve been told, there hasn’t been a commitment yet. There’s definitely been interest, but I’m not sure if any firm offers are on the table. Crown Point rarely posts or updates player stats during the season, which, when explained, makes sense. However, it does make it significantly more challenging for others to evaluate the players. It’s certainly not the usual approach, but Buzea’s method has been effective, so I can’t argue with it. That said, you can still find some stats from the games on social media
-
I thought that Crown Point didn’t allow video stream for the majority of their games though. Can you give insight into whether you think this is Indiana wide, the Northern Indiana, etc. again, the student sections in the North 5A and Crown Point seem strong, some Michiana student section seem strong, and Indy student section seems to fluctuate…but I go to select games so it’s not fair to say based on my assessment.
-
I’m guessing from past fan base of their opponents, which wasn’t much. That is what I was used to as well..full stands both sides. Student sections overflowing, concession lines - I am baffled as to to lack of Friday night lights
-
Thanks for the feedback.hard to tell especially when fans were leaving so early unfortunately.
-
I was not at the Crown Point v Carroll game to see, however, I heard that Carroll’s fan base showed up in stronger numbers than expected. Maybe that is because the Lowell and Arizona College Prep games resulted in higher fan turnout than fan support from Lake Central, Portage, and Chesterton - which is surprising, especially since they’re so close to Crown Point. This is not the case in games throughout Indiana, it is so strange.
-
I hit submit too early. This game will undoubtedly be Crown Point’s toughest challenge of the season to date. Westfield is a great, well-rounded, and disciplined team. Both sides will need to bring their absolute best, as it’s shaping up to be a matchup where preparation and execution will make all the difference.

Crown Point's football team has a strong following, with fans often traveling to support the Bulldogs. During the recent Sectional Championship game against Penn, it was noted that Crown Point fans appeared to outnumber the home crowd, though this observation isn't confirmed. Fans rented chartered buses for the 1.5-hour drive to the game, and I heard that many students were called out early, highlighting the dedication. What was your assessment @GOLDRUSH1985 I have no doubt that this enthusiastic support continues for the game this Friday.

Common opponent scores can be misleading, especially when comparing Week 1 to Week 5. Michigan City, for example, was still finding their rhythm early in the season but was playing significantly better by Week 5, even if their record didn’t fully show it. Looking at additional opponents both teams have faced is also important, as there’s a mix of strong and weaker teams that can influence perceptions. Look at Goshen and Crown Point. For Warsaw, the focus shouldn’t be on comparing scores but on preparing for Merrillville. And Merrillville on Warsaw. If Merrillville can overcome their semi-state challenges, they’ll be a serious contender. Merrillville has faced teams much tougher than them before, so this isn’t uncharted territory, it will be a matter of playing smart. This should be a great game!

Watching games on TV just doesn’t compare, but I finally caught some of the game yesterday. As expected, Gibbs showed up and did his thing. What really stood out to me was the lack of any real attempts at big plays with Szymborski, Gibbs, and Soley—three big, fast dudes who usually make a splash for CP. Szymborski had one standout moment, but it was surprising that CP didn’t take more shots downfield with those 3. As for Carroll, Sullivan and VanPelt absolutely lived up to the hype. Sullivan’s precision was sharp, and VanPelt’s speed was something else. Together, they made an impressive duo, and I’m already looking forward to seeing what VanPelt brings next season. I’m still debating which game to catch on Friday, but Shamrocks vs. CP Dawgs is shaping up to be a great battle. Both teams are stacked with talent and always leave it all out on the field. Can’t wait to see how the season unfolds!
-
Definitely not a kicking issue. Regular season, Brewer had a perfect FG record. At the Penn game, I believe he had his first missed FG all season.
-
I was at the LN v Brownsburg game and haven’t had a chance to watch any of the CP v Carroll game yet. With post season, anything can happen so I am always hesitant to put any numbers out but you were almost right on with your prediction. I heard that Buzea had 2nd team D play part of third and entire fourth quarter- any truth to this?
-
Agreed. Out of all the high school 6A football players I’ve watched this year, Trevor Gibbs truly stands out. He is something else—dominating on both sides of the ball like it’s no big deal - at times, it is like he could do it in his sleep. It’s no surprise colleges are all over him; he’s a rare talent. Add his baseball talent into the mix, and the guy’s an all-around powerhouse.

Very true. But honestly, this forum might implode if Westfield (2/3) goes down to an unranked Fishers. Sure, Fishers got hit hard by Westfield a few weeks back, losing by 34, but Fisher's recent wins over Noblesville and HSE show they are on a roll and could be ready for a come back. Might just be the recipe for an upset! And with Indiana’s win-or-go-home system, all bets are off. Anything can happen tomorrow night—Friday Night Lights at its absolute best! Let’s hope for great plays, no injuries, and a scoreboard that keeps us all on the edge of our seats. May the best team win and everyone leave with just a good story to tell!

Let’s not forget the talk about Carmel supposedly being on a 'downward trend' and in need of a rebuild. Yet in Week 2, Carmel was still giving top teams a run, even if they’re not the powerhouse they once were. Westfield barely edged them out with a 4-point win, then squeaked past HSE in OT by 7. Westfield’s only loss? A tight 4-point game against Brownsburg. Since then, Westfield has been unstoppable, showing how quickly momentum can shift. Brownsburg also had a strong season, with only one loss to HSE by 9 but they’ve pulled off some close wins along the way – a 1-point victory over Fishers, a 4-point win over Westfield, another 4-point win against Noblesville, and an 8-point sectional win over Avon. In the sectional championship, they even pulled off a comeback to beat BD by 3. Now, they’re up against LN, who has been electric all season. LN's control on both sides of the ball has been next level, and Brownsburg will need every bit of grit to keep up. Interestingly, LN's closest game came in Week 1 against Lawrence Central, who kept the margin to just 7. And for Pike – they were the 2nd closest to beating LN this season, only losing by 10 points. Pike also only lost to BD by 10. So I’m not sure that the sentiment of CP 'handling' Pike is funny. These are teenagers and the level of play they bring deserves respect. Each of these teams has faced challenges and proven they can rise to the occasion, regardless of who’s on the other side of the ball. This season, more than ever, shows just how close the competition is – no game is a given. These players are battling week in and week out, and they’re earning every win. At the end of the day, a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Look at IU and Notre Dame 😂 -
Thanks! Fast typing and my laziness. I didn’t even notice this error despite knowing that both Andrean and LCC were 2A. Despite not knowing much about either teams, this is a game I think will a good one!

I don’t know much about either team but based on what I have heard and the small bits I have seen from each, I think it should be a good game. 6A Tournament Discussion

Mishawaka has had an incredible season! As @temptation mentioned, the loss to Elkhart was a tight 7-3 battle. Since their game against Valpo, Penn has made significant progress. Their team chemistry has improved and the players' on-field communication has become more effective, leading to better overall performance. Additionally, Penn has refined both their offensive and defensive strategies, executing plays with greater precision, , which is now reflected in their recent games. While they still have areas to improve and may not be as dominant as in past seasons, they're undoubtedly in better shape now than they were during the Valpo game. -

@GOLDRUSH1985 Penn should see CP, however, Valpo and Lake Central face each other on October 18, which will give a clearer picture of how they stack up directly. When Penn faced Valpo on August 23, it was a close game, with Penn barely securing a 49-42 victory. While Penn had some early-season issues, they have since stabilized and improved. Despite some remaining challenges, Penn appears to be in better shape than they were during that initial matchup with Valpo, positioning them as a more formidable opponent moving forward. Valpo unfortunately did not fix their issues much (if at all) after that game with Penn. I reference that game because Lake Central and Valpo share several opponents on their football schedules LaPorte – Lake Central won (24-12 on Sep. 20), Valparaiso won (42-7 on Sep. 6). Michigan City – Lake Central lost (14-20 on Sep. 27), Valparaiso won (20-14 on Sep. 13). Crown Point – Lake Central lost (14-42 on Sep. 13), Valparaiso lost (7-41 on Sep. 27). Chesterton – Lake Central lost (16-17 on Oct. 4), Valparaiso won (22-21 on Sep. 20). Merrillville – Lake Central lost (10-43 on Oct. 11), Valparaiso lost (7-35 on Oct. 4). Portage – Lake Central won (23-21 on Sep. 6), Valparaiso won (42-32 on Oct. 11) Looking ahead to the first round of Sectionals, given Penn's upward trajectory and performance that Lake Central has been giving this year, Penn is in a better position to advance. Lake Central will need to deliver an exceptional performance to overcome Penn.
