I stand corrected merrillville and Valpo are tied with 15 sectionals and are tied in regionals. Only difference is merrillville did it in 6A recently and Valpo in 5A. I apologize for my mistake.

Valpo has 1 more Regional and they have 4 semi-states vs zip for Merrillville. The year Merrillville went to state, it was a different playoff system I believe, so I guess you can say they do have a semi state win, but was called regional back then. I would say Valpo has a better claim as better program in Da Region

  2. I think you are underestimating Valpo. They have reached semi-state 4 out of last 5 years, they are one of the best programs, if not the best in the North now. returning 19 players is huge, don't see them losing more than one game in regular season, if one at all, if they stay healthy. Head coach Marshall has that program heading in right direction.

The junior class is talented, qb1 could be the Jr, pretty lanky and had good mechanics. Just like Dwenger n many other programs, some of the best athletes are walking the hallways and this year will be no different. However mums the word on blitzes info.

I think you are talking about Aaron Vance. It will likely come down to him or Ke'ron Biilingsley for QB1.

Looking forward to start of the season. Season goes by so fast though, before you know it, it's over.

Either that or a semi-state matchup of Merrillville vs North Side. Then you have Mishawaka and Dwenger, neither of whom will take lightly being left out of the conversation. It'll be fun to see how 2023 goes down.

Yep, no guarantee that Snider makes it out of their sectional.

In all fairness, Snider did hold them to 14 points in regulation.

Not into moral victories, just was disappointed that they couldn't stop the off left tackle play and they got gashed for 270+. Just a game though so there is always this year. could be possible rematch??

So, Valpo caught lightning in a bottle and rode it all the way to state, that is very similar to my freshmen year at Penn.  I was not basing their being in the top 10 of the state on 1 game from last year.  It is based on the fact that they played three games where they were handled in the regular season.

The question is, which team is Valpo going to field next year, the team the won state or the team the got waxed three times in the regular seaon?

We don't ask these questions about the Blue Bloods of Indy.  Valpo at this point is not a shoe in for the top ten, but they are close.

See above, Valpo was not a full strength at the start of last season. I will take Valpo - 20 in August.

Let's just put it into perspective, a young not experienced Penn team last year hung a W on the 5A champs 35-6.  Be it first game of the season, but this year will probably be a better game, with both teams gaining experience, and Valpo finally getting that state title.

We will see in the weeks coming.

Valpo was not coming in at full strength last year for first 3-5 games. RB Davis was out most of the start of the season. He ripped Snider for 270+ running over left tackle again, again and again. Snider couldn't stop, they were overpowered and manhandled. Valpo should have no problem with Penn in upcoming game.

Blitz as evidently it may not be true & went off rumors without asking him. Yes that's not how it should have went, but they'll blow this up like they did the South Side kid. I'll get blasted for my similar response on Twitter that I put on here. Oh well I don't cover SAC or any teams. Follow mostly 3A, 2A, & 1A.

No problem, just wondering, Would be nice if he plays. I'm not in area any more and not really connected so I get what I get off social pretty much.

I'm wondering about the QB spot, maybe BTF can provide some insight?

Well maybe he might be playing football. However the Snider Twitter & social media accounts are thin skinned. Going after media individuals for dumb stuff last season & now. Good grief! I'd like Snider to win & do well but the Panthers aren't always reliable when it matters most. They're no different than my Flying Jets, Luers, or Dwenger.

    Who they going after now??

  11. With less than 60 days to go, I'll get the 2023 thread going for the Mighty Panthers of Snider. Saw today that one of their top backs, De'Alcapon Veazy will not play this year and concentrate on wrestling per Blitz on Twitter. I expect Snider RB room to be fairly deep, so he will surely be missed, but don't think this is too devastating.

QB question is one that needs to be answered, not sure who the contenders are for the starting nob.

I still like DT's proposal: A northern super conference.

Penn, Snider, Homestead, Carroll, Merrillville, Valpo, Dwenger, & Crown Point. Two non-conference games.....probably rest games since that schedule would be brutal.

Side note: The SAC's a pretty solid conference as it stands with the move to two divisions, so the above scenario is a pipe dream.

Yea, maybe years way down the road. Travel would be killer for FWA teams & Da Region teams. SAC seem to be one of the best and solid conferences in the state.

We don't travel as well as we used to, attendance comes and goes.  We had full stands to see us get murdered by Carroll (props to them on that).  I expect it to be packed at the Mishawaka game.  But, the conference games, struggle to even get students out.

Problem is conference Penn plays in, teams are not very good, other than maybe Elkhart and New Prairie?? They should consider going independent or maybe join the Duneland

    Still on this:

6A only: Crown Point, Lake Central, Portage (DAC); Elkhart, Penn (NIC); Carroll, Homestead, Northrop (SAC), with the interloper being the Bengal (or Fighting) Tigers of Warsaw (NLC, but they need love, too).

A little more creativity to bring it to 16 would ensue adding Merrillville and Valparaiso from the DAC, Dwenger and Snider from the SAC, and since I don't consider anyone else worthy from the NIC, I'd advocate for Huntington North, Munster, and Plymouth to make it even.  Championship game at Notre Dame Stadium as I'm sure they wouldn't mind...

    Let the games begin.

Northrop is an enigma IMO, I can't image that they don't have talent in that school to be better in football. I think North Side needs to be in mix somewhere, somehow.

I think Mishawaka's move from the NIC to the NLC is instructive here. It's hard to imagine what the NIC can offer to large-class schools in the north that those schools can't get in their conferences or by scheduling select NIC schools out of conference. Plus, Warsaw would be trading its relatively short trips to play the NLC's weakest teams for hour-long trips to South Bend.

Agreed, I'm thinking the NIC may not really have any options, other than to hope to hang on and hope to keep Penn, Elkhart and New Prairie.
