From the SIAC...Matthew Fisher of Memorial, Ben Davies of Reitz, and Xander Hunt of Vincennes are all very talented QBs

    • in 11 games - Fisher finished with 1830 yards and 15 TDs to 10 INTs - class of '25 comes in at 6'3" 180 lbs.
      • Good size and poise. Good completion rate. Throws a good ball in and out of the pocket. Tough competitor. Also a good baseball player.
    • in 9 games - Davies finished with 1561 yards and 18 TDs to 7 INTs - class of '25 comes in at 6'2" 195 lbs.
      • Injured in week 4, missed a few games, never really recovered. Put up great stats when healthy. Surgery in offseason, expected back healthy. Good size and throws a good deep ball.
    • in 10 games - Hunt finished with 1464 pass yards and 10 TDs to 7 INTs, added 908 rush yards for 13 TDs - class of '24 comes in at 5'10" 160 lbs.
      • Was named SIAC POTY. Undersized but incredible competitor. True dual threat. Decent passer but really thrives running the ball. Willed his team to wins and kept them in games where they were outmatched.

All nice players and crazy to think Davies might not be the best in game QB at Reitz.

Hard to assume that Memorial and Mater Dei will be worse though. They always seem to find a way to be competitive.

Based on the run for Memorial since 2016, I’d say they found ways to be more than just competitive.

I haven’t conversed with you enough to know if you are trolling or not, or if you just don’t like Reitz. But nobody said best in 88 years or that they were dominate every Friday night. And I don’t like to devalue a high school team’s undefeated regular season. (It’s not easy to go undefeated in the regular season and not every win is pretty). I was just stating a fact about how big the gap was in the standings and how long it’s been that nobody had accomplished it. No matter your opinion on how dominate or not they were every game, winning the conference by that much is statistically a big gap. Sure, it has a lot to do with depth of field. But, point is, the gap was there.

All I was wondering was - do you think Reitz won’t be as good this year or do you think there will be other teams that are much better and close the gap?

No troll. Just not convinced last year or this years Panthers have a big gap on the competition. SWI has had some dominating teams in recent years.  I would not put last years Reitz team in that group. They could  prove me wrong in 23’.  They certainly have a lot of talented dudes  Memorial and Vincennes should have great QB play and lots of good athletes around them. North has dudes if they can ever figure out consistent offense.  Jasper and Castle are always tough to play, especially on the road. MD will find the pieces by rivalry week and possibly have a say in SIAC title.

Just out of curiosity - if there was a big gap last season (statistically the biggest in the 88 year history of the SIAC), and they return their loaded junior class plus a healthy QB, and Memorial/MD may not be quite as good as last year - what makes you think it won't be a big gap? Is it because you think Reitz will somehow be worse, or because some other team(s) will be much better?

For them to statistically be the best team in 88 years, they sure struggle to get wins versus Memorial, MD and Vincennes. Not to mention that sectional performance.  They were far from dominate every Friday night.

  5. -Reitz should be tops in SIAC but not ready to say Big Gap. Committed a lot of bad penalties last year and they were no-shows in the tournament. Certainly the favorites on paper.
-VL should be in the top 4 with all the returning talent. Great athlete at QB. Need to finish games this year.
-Memorial. I trust Hurley will be just fine with Fisher/Bryant, a top notch RB and athletes on the outside.  Possibly one of the more athletic teams Memorials had in recent years. Worth noting..there’s also a Combs entering 10th grade.
-MD and their staff always find a way to be physical and tough regardless of the names.
-North is always scary but unless they replaced their OC they will be middle of pack. Always have dudes but just seem to fall short of expectations.
-Jasper is just different than any team in the siac. Never underestimate the Cats. Tough to beat Jasper in any sport.
-Castle played much better than I expected last season. Expect them to be very competitive most nights. Never short on QB talent or WR talent.

    Bosse, Harrison, and Central.
just stay healthy in these games.

UT-Martin has 7 QB's on their current roster.  No clue where he is going to rank in the pecking order

That will give him a couple years to develop and learn the offense.

Any idea what type of offense they run? Do they prefer pocket type passer or a more mobile get out of the pocket QB?

MD and Memorial will be less effected. Teams like Central, Bosse , and Harrison who are already struggling in football but could depend on at least having “basketball player athletes” for football could fall further behind.  If those kids all end up on the hill. Line play is already an issue now if the skills leave it’s trouble. It hurts the strength of SIAC as a whole.

Can’t blame kids for finding the right fit. I think the talented freshman basketball player starting at Reitz is a kid that went to McGary. I’m hearing The Reverend Brooks is doing “Gods Work” and helping a few talented kids find that right fit. 😂

With the success last year of the Reitz football team and now the basketball team. It feels like Reitz is about to go on a big run. The “transfer portal” will be buzzing straight to the west side. It feels like it’s going to be Panthers then everyone else.

Good year to be decent in hoops. SIAC looked like a 2nd tier basketball league in SW Indiana. Jury still out on football after getting boat raced by Boonville when it mattered the most.  JMO. This reply could age poorly but I’m taking the field ( top half of siac ) to be right there.

The new scholarship packages at MD and  Memorial include lots of NIL money opportunities.

  9. Having two capable QBs is a good problem.
Bryant obviously feels he can win the position. Would not make sense transferring to be QB2. Unless it was more about the environment and education. 😂 I just think his chances of being QB1 were better at a few other schools. I like the fact he’s in blue and white and not afraid of the battle ahead.

  10. I’m a little surprised the Bryant kid didn’t transfer to North. They need a solid QB and he passes North driving down 41.  I don’t see Fisher getting knocked from QB1. Especially if Fisher is “all-in” this offseason.
Is Bryant capable of playing other positions or is he set on competing for QB1? Does Hurly implement a 2- QB system. Bryant looked like a solid running QB in limited time last season.

    This is right.

I once talked to Mike Neu about the Colts finding Danny Pinter.  They came by, as they often do, and asked about anybody Neu thought they should look at.  Pinter had just made the move to IOL that season.  They looked at his tape and saw a lineman with unusually good downfield blocking.

They asked Neu if that was typical for him, Neu said it was.  And the Colts took a Ball State lineman in the 5th round.

NFL scouts rarely miss on finding kids that should be drafted or at minimum invited to camp with chance to earn a contract. All FCS, G5, and P5 schools host pro days leading up to the draft.

IMO regardless of where Brady ends up I’m sure NFL talent scouts know him and will follow his progress over the next few seasons.

  12. NFL draft scouts and NFL team reps visit colleges daily during the fall season. FCS, G5, and P5 teams have reps at practices watching players. They know where possible draftees are and they follow them religiously throughout the year.

Right but getting coached up by Nick Saban is a little different than going to New Mexico and playing for the lobos.

you can go sit for 2 years with saban and become an incredible player….or you can go play right away for the lobos and depend on the ole “if you’re good they’ll find ya”

I’m assuming you never played college sports?  You can be incredible at any college athletic program.

It’s more of a fantasy football debate. I play some leagues that are devy and use college players.

the debate is circled around what transfers should do.

do you transfer to a lower level school in hopes of an easier path to playing time….where ideally as a top prospect you would show out and perform above expectations…..or do you go to another P5 school where you get better facilities, coaches, and competition that improves the development of the player….but that comes at the cost of playing time for the majority of players.

it’s not always non P5 schools either….sometimes it’s just the powerhouses…like players who play for Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, Clemson….they might choose to leave in hopes of more opportunities at another P5 school.

maybe debate isn’t the right word for expressing the thought, but it is often a discussion had about players who enter the transfer portal

Not sure. I think a player has to find the right fit with coaching. Great coaches and great position coaches from D3 to FBS.  I think players get a pretty good idea how things are going to shake out and what their chances are of being QB1.

Ultimately, most probably want a chance to play asap regardless of level. NFL scouts go to a lot of college practices from FCS, G5 and obviously P5.  If you can play they will notice.

  15. I know USI has offered and I’m thinking UE has offered. Can’t imagine any kid giving up Friday night lights but it wouldn’t shock me in todays era of softness. Lots of good QBs from 6th grade up at Memorial. The 7th grade QB is the best I’ve seen at Memorial for that age.  If the Bryant kid comes in focused he could win the spot. IMO. His competition will be busy playing baseball.
