  1. After many years trying, this is my first Catalina Wine Mixer Title. I used my PP advantages to stay ahead of the pack. After Luers failed me in miserable fashion, new comer to the party Covenant Christian pushed me over the edge. In honor of 2020, here is a rough version of the song that embodies all Catalina Wine Mixer Champions.  Last but not least, DONATE TO THE GRID!

I agree there should be no 1A private schools. The biggest problem I’ve had is these private schools (LCC) will win a couple state titles in a row move up to 2A then tank a couple of seasons back down to 1A , so your telling me LCC couldn’t win 2 sectionals in 2A to stay in 2A ? And then their right back winning state championships !!! Look at Indianapolis Lutheran in Softball they do the same think win a couple state championships up to 2A and then 3 years later back down in 1A their back in the state championship game again !!! They have done it many times !!! Look what happened to Pioneer they did win enough to stay in 2A but up against FWBL couple of kids got hurt then couldn’t compete as well 30 kids on the side line compared to 70 you don’t have the numbers. LCC at one time played separate offense team and defense most 1A schools kids play both ways the entire game ! Ok done with my rant against private schools in 1A

All the posts in this topic and this is the more ignorant one. Three things:

    1. LCC is only being bumped up for it's 2nd time. Not multiple times as you claim.

    2. When LCC bumped up to 2A the points needed to stay in 2A was 4 points. LCC lost to the state runner up Tipton by 4 in Sectional and Lost to Rensselaer Central in Semi-State similar to Pioneer. Not really sure LCC's first go around would be considered tanking. You can thank Bobby Cox adjustments in the amount of points to stay in a class.

    3. Last time Pioneer played LCC they hung 70 on them. I am not sure what you have to complain about in terms of competition.

Exactly...if Miller was on an SAC team in Fort Wayne ...he would have a lot more offers from some bigger schools.  Plus with Covid, recruiting is definitely different this year.

After watching highlights of the Heritage kid, That dude is exactly what a D1 Program is looking for. He is 6'5 230 and clearly hasn't even accidently wandered in to a weight room. They look at that kid and say we can pack on another 30-40 pounds on that kid and he has a great motor.

Miller has worked very hard in the weight room it is clear, but they look at his frame and say maybe we can squeak another 10 pounds on before it starts to impact in a negative way. And are we sure he's 6'4, there is a play on Miller's Hudl first four games high light reel where the Heritage kid is defending him and the kid from Heritage is clearly 2-3 inches taller.

6’4” and 240. He’s got a frame to put some size on. I’m honestly surprised with his measurables and production even more NAIA and D2 schools would give more offers as a project. It’s really annoying when the DE from Heritage who can’t even make all ACAC has offers from Purdue and Arizona State.

He would be a great fit at a D2 Program like Hillsdale or UIndy who uses TE. His problem right now is NCAA isn't allowing any recruiting to happen. It makes it difficult on the players and the coaches right now.

What is the Heritages DE name?

Miller has had visits to IU, Toledo, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, but offers from only smaller schools.

Arnold has interest from Columbia in the Ivy League and Butler, both Div 1.  Obviously Butler is Div 1 AA.  And visited Southern Illinois.  Smaller schools like St Francis, Marian, etc have interest as well.

Arnold is more mobile than you think, rushed for over 50 yds and a TD vs a very fast Southwood team.  It’s just not his MO.

How big is Miller? I saw the regional game last season in person and I remember being impressed by him, but I don't recall him having D1 TE type size.

Quick Clarification: Ivy League and Butler are both in non-scholarship D1 Football. In order to have a D1 basketball program, If there is a football program schools are required to be D1. There are obviously schools who don't want to take on the expense of 85 full scholarships at the FBS level. They created FCS (formerly D1AA) and FCS Non Scholarship. FCS has 63 Full Scholarships to offer and FCS non-Scholarship offers academic packages. At the Butler and Ivy League the packages are still very competitive to those that D2 or NAIA offer.

This definitely going to be a great game.  As a former player at SA, I’m happy the Starfires played Southwood last week.  SW was a very fast and athletic team and could pass very effectively.

LCC may have issues with SA’s defensive line.  Miller, Gorney, Gilbert can all rush the passer with strength and speed.  Plattner, Kahn, and Summersett are very good LBs.

SA is definitely not your typical 1A team as far as size and talent go. Arnold at QB 6-3 210, Miller at TE/DE 6-4 240, Stutzman and Wanner both 6-2 180.

If Miller or Arnold played at a larger school, they would be getting Div 1 offers.

Can’t wait to watch tomorrow night.  Hopefully SA can pull this one off!

I hope I am wrong, but I don't see this being as good of a game as folks think. LCC is now a 45 point underdog based on the Harrells.

What’s the field condition at LCC currently? Playing only 3 home games all year id guess it’s probably the best shape of all grad fields in the state

LCC's Field is in beautiful shape. It's a kentucky bluegrass field cut like a golf fairway. It plays fast like turf. After Friday, the Tarp will go on the field for the winter.

I am starting to hear that because LCC was on the bye, even if they played Traders Point which would have been on the road for the sectional title. That Bye game will be considered a home game. Looks like Temptations grievance can be rescinded.

    High school example:

6A Warren quarantines in week 1 and gets two weeks to prepare for CG.  Loses 20-0 but plays CG arguably tougher than anyone else this season.

Same Warren team gets two weeks off prior to the start of the sectional...avenges regular season losses to North Central and Lawrence North, while playing its best football of the season in winning its sectional.

For every example you cite, I can find an opposing one.  You'll certainly now move the goal posts from "You can't compare the NFL, to you can't compare 6A to 1A."

NO ONE is feeling sorry for poor LCC for having had to sit a week at home...trust me.

Is someone asking anyone to feel sorry for LCC? Your "unbiased" opinion around here is that LCC shouldn't get a home game because they had a bye two weeks ago. So stop feeling sorry for South Adams because they have to get on a bus for 2 hours to go play on a arguably one of the best grass football fields in the state in 60 degree weather. Seems like great evening for the 42 point favorite Starfires.

Guess NFL teams should just start shooting for 9-7 and trying to squeeze into the playoffs then huh?

So you're comparing a 1A football team to a an NFL team. You're clueless.

Having seen what happens with high school teams and bye weeks constantly this season. It is a hinderance for high school players, they don't have a paycheck coming in based on their weekly performance so it is difficult to keep 14-18 years wholly focused on the season. Especially when you aren't allowed to practice for two weeks. LCC will make a lot of mid season mistakes like they have every Friday this season because they have about half the amount of reps during practice this season than SA. That can come into play in a big way. Having scouted SA last season when they lose to AC. They are the real deal and going into this season I've though they were the favorite since they returned just about everyone. Their QB, top WR, and TE are all fantastic athletes who you can tell have put in a lot of work to master their craft. LCC is not the same team they were last year. There is so much inexperience out there and the lack of practice time has hurt that youth's development throughout the season.

Harrels predicts SA 52 LCC 10. I don't know that it'll be that bad, but LCC has a lot of work to do this week to make a game of it.

One of the perks of the Indiana tournament is the chance to play your final game inside at Lucas Oil.

An outside venue would seriously reduce attendance.

I think there will be a reduction in attendance anyway. If the play at LOS, I imagine they will clear the stadium after every game and you will have to buy a new ticket. It's the model that was done at the Volleyball State finals. That gives the fans from the two competing schools the best opportunity at a social distance lower sideline seat.

New fun at the Pit for home and visitors alike! Due to covid restrictions there is a limit to only six people in the pressbox, which excludes home and visitor coaches. Any coaches wanting to sit up high in the pressbox will have to "slum it" in the top row with our fans... Its actually pretty embarassing when we get to share this news with other schools.

Why Not Bring in a couple of Scissor Lifts set up behind the bleachers for the Coaches?

Congrats to the Knights on Sectional 42 championship !

Can't help but wonder how much this season has affected LCCs progress !

It is hard to have normal progression throughout the season. Combine that with a being a young team and it's not a good mix, but the staff and the players are playing the best hand they can with the cards they've been dealt.
