I am at the school board meeting Michigan City has hired Charles Salary from Calumet as the new head football coach.

I'm here at tonight's Merrillville - Michigan City senior night boys basketball game at the Wolves Den. At halftime I asked our superintendent Dr. Wendell McCulleum how the search for the new football coach is going since it has been a month since Cody French stepped down to take over at Portage and he told me that there will be an announcement at Tuesday nights school board meeting.

When Valpo won the 5A state championship last year I noticed there were a lot of familiar Portage names on Valpo's roster.

JoJo was my neighbor boy growing up as a grade schooler in Michigan City before his family moved to Indianapolis and subsequently moved to Napanee. NorthWood is going to have an awesome season this year and can’t wait to see some of their games. Looking forward to see him play on Saturdays on TV in the future. It is going to be a fun football season for me watching JoJo, Syracuse recruit Jaden Hart at Michigan City Florida State graduate transfer Braden Fiske. Also recent Georgia graduate and Philadelphia Eagles rookie Kelee Ringo has a lot of strong family ties in Michigan City.

Joziah Edmond WR from NorthWood High School (Warren Central transfer) has committed to Purdue.

Per hometown news now.com 2012 LaPorte grad Austin Epple is now the “intern” head football coach at La Porte. Epple has no teaching credentials but serves as the school resource office through the La Porte County Sheriff Office at La Porte High School.

La Porte’s senior class will now be playing under a different head coach during their four year cycle of high school.

Regional sports network reported that Charles Salary will take iver at Calumet. He was an assistant on Phil Mason's staff at Michigan City and was an all-state RB at La Porte, 5A state runner up in 2014.

Cody French will be introduced as the new HC at Michigan City at the School Board meeting on Tuesday night.
