  1. Another school in the south central part of the state that stepped it up this year, like Northview ,is Sweet Owen Valley. 3a school. In fact their only defeat in the regular, was redeemed the first sectional game. And they beat a 4a school that just beat Jasper. Schedule May not be as tough as the southern boys , but I think the south champ in 3a might have to go through the Patriots.

I watched the game early this morning on the WJTS replay. Jasper did not look like the Jasper I have watched several times this season. NV is a darn good team though - good line play, the RB was a handful and D was tough.  If we are lucky enough to get past Central and NV beats Reitz, we will be very lucky to get past NV. They look much better than in years' past.

Yes, the Northview team took it up a couple of notches this year. And situated where they are, geographically, they don’t get a lot of Publicity. And strength of schedule usually suspect most years.  But this year a couple of their normal rivalries are good this year also ,and NV seemed to step up and win the tough ones.

High school play calling? Sheridan called the O last season too lol.

Penix threw 2 pick sixes against Iowa and threw 3 picks against Cinnci...better QB probably means Iowa is a closer game, Cinnci is probably a win.

QB play is killing them right now. Tuttle going out killed IU big time offensively.

You maybe right , Sheridan could be classified as a hot commodity with this kind of play calling. I get it now, thanks.
So, let me get this straight ,Allen needs to up the ante next year for this coach to try to fend off the big school offers?

Because at some point, you may need to pass. And it makes your offense way more dangerous. Sure, run 20 times, then pop off an unexpected pass. That opens the running game up even more then if they have to defend that. Refusing to run the ball is just arrogance that you’re physically better than the other team. Well what happens when you hit a team just as physical? You have to be able to do different things.

You are not wrong. But the teams that Leo played, so far ,have not warranted passing. Passing for the sake of passing sometimes will get you in more trouble. Stay simple if it’s run run run ,and stay with what works. Seems like  this is Lions philosophy. Working so far.

  5. Indiana needs more than a good QB. They have QB’s that the coaching staff recruited. They need to use who they offered scholarships to. It’s not players, they need a Coach who knows how to call a game , and set up an offense that will work and be successful. And I’m not talking about WINS here. Sheridan is in way over his head, and it is more glaring every game. Essentially the same players back from last year and look at them now. A shell of what they were in wins or losses this year.

I thought Jasper actually threw the ball better this year than last.   Last year they really struggled, but this year they seemed somewhat capable.

5 turnover make any offense look suspect.

That is definitely the Achilles heal of the option offense.  If you can get ahead and make them throw, and most option teams are in trouble.  Grinding out yards and eating up the clock is great...as long as you have the lead.  Get behind by a couple of TDs however, and playing catch up can be really difficult late in a game.  I heard Jasper had 5 TOs, not many teams, regardless of the type of offense they run, can overcome that in a high school game and win.

The Jasper offense scheme can be debated for its weaknesses until forever. All offense have weaknesses. And all types of offensive schemes can go deep into the tournament and win.  Good coaches put in what they think would be good ,with the abilities of the players they have to work with ,in any given year.  That said.
5 turnovers has “L” written all over it.  If they were playing a weaker team maybe you don’t lose. But another good team took advantage. In hindsight Jasper has a very good team.

It is unbelievably frustrating to watch. Would have never thought in Year 5 Brohm still can’t develop a consistent QB or an O-Line that is worthy of being called a P5 level line.

And of course my arch nemesis Row The Boat guy won another one by completely dominating the LOS and running the ball at will. Shame on me for thinking Purdue got the better hire 5 years ago when Minny also hit the market for a coach.

Agree here, fluke win last week. Back to go.

  8. Man the caliber of opponents this year and the added high school play calling by Indiana has done the team morale in. Could not have been a better perfect storm to doom this team. From the first game ass kicking, Allen was never able to put the team back on track, grasping for straws all the way.
And to think temptation was saying they would win 6 or 7 games. He must have reach for the wrong pipe.

I’m actually amazed that Leo was able to pass that way. I know they are dominant at running, but it’s annoyed me all season how they refuse to even work on the pass. Threw it 10 times last night, had 14 going into the game.

You ever listen to one of the most successful coaches in NCAA’s history. He never passed the football! Three things can happen when you pass and two of the three are bad. Why pass?

In town visiting family & watched highlights of this on the news. Looked like one of the better games in the area.

I know I'll get flamed for what I'm going to say, but, this 1st round matchup between two top-tier teams is a good argument for seeding. No way they should have seen each other this early.

One of the really exciting 1st round match ups along with others ,Jasper/ Northview being just one of the others, that maybe wouldn’t of happened with the 1vs6 or 1vs8 boring seeding games.

Some big games this coming Friday. Both games will be nip and tuck. I had to do a lot of research looking at the numbers and seeing how both adapt to the elements. LS puts a real scare into MD but eventually the MD coaching staff will pull out all the tricks like finding a 3 legged dog and then convincing the MD players that LS was to blame for it only having 3 legs and then it will be all over.

    NP 28-21 NK

    MD 66-1 LS

    Dreams sure are exciting sometimes.
