  1. I'm so glad baseball is back.  I hope the union will get behind this.  I see lots of upside with the plan for this year.

I think the player's union will like the 30 man rosters with possibly up to 50 (per ESPN report)

Lots of chances for players to make more money...that's a win.

Let's go go go go White Sox...been waiting a few years for a season like this.

    Ricky's boys don't quit

I am not a fan of Coach Moore's comments.  (Assuming of course, he was not misquoted or taken out of context.)  A better response, would be "I do not know what other teams and coaches are doing.  I can only speak to what my team is doing and that is...."

I can name a list of things I have "known" over the years:

    - Other schools give their linemen steroids to take during advanced PE

    - Other schools routinely practice on Sundays

    - Other schools take their teams out of state in summer so they can hide violating the contact day limits

    - Other schools recruit players from outside of the district to come play for them

    - Players from other schools have been arrested/ suspended/ failed every class/ etc. and still never missed a game of football

These are all things I have "known" because I heard it from someone who heard it from a reliable source.

I know what my son and his team are doing.  That's it.  I would not say I "know" what other coaches, teams, and schools are doing based on hints or reports leaked.

    Just my $.02

So you are saying that a  PE teacher administered an illegal substance to an minor in the school?  That should have been give to DCF for an investigation.  That is a fireable offense for all involved and the parents could be put up on charges as well.

  3. Now if the head football coach was a department head...he would have three preps in the fall, his teaching prep, department head prep, and football coach prep.

I am also assuming all the head coaching in the MIC are teachers in a building.  Maybe they have lunch supervision, study hall supervision, etc...that could lead up to quite a pay day.

Also before you complain about the Indy area coaches...how about some love for the Gary/Calumet/St. Joe Valley coaches

Look for a decent amount of contraction.  Several programs will permanently shut down.

South Bend has a major school funding question on this years primary ballot.  Superintendent Cummings says there will be big cuts to programs that don't involve all students.  Whatever that means.  COVID or not...South Bend Football may have changes

There are no ifs when the test is required for every person. If they refuse or test positive and don’t self isolate there are fines and jail time. A test with a 5 minute result isn’t much more inconvenient than the wanding that many HS are doing now.
It just makes no sense to keep testing just those with symptoms, test everyone and do it ASAP.

So we test everyone every time when they enter a new environment.  Example:  I get a test before I enter the school building.  After school I need to get gas (test), go to the grocery story (test), and get something for the family to eat (test).  That's 4 tests.  Who is going to pay the people doing the testing and how much training is needed.

This isn't as cut and dry as it seems.   What if I test negative at school and positive at the grocery store.

The quickest way to beating this is to TEST EVERYONE. Develop a quick at-home test (like a pregnancy test) and require everyone to take the test.  Have them at any event of any size gathering, pass it and you get in.  That way the few that test positive are quarantined, the vast majority that don't have it can freely go about their lives.  This can happen by having the government invest whatever billions it takes to have a company or companies get this to market.  Better billions spent to get this country back on it's feet in just a few weeks than spending another trillion (or 2 or 5) on bailouts and just continuing to test those with symptoms and closing down our access to freedom.

So we test all the participants needed for the game.  When is this done...Friday Morning?  Then you will have to test for all the other games in the same manner.  Then you have to test fans for admittance.  Who will administer the test?  Can't test if it isn't 100% reliable.

Too many if's in that senario

  7. I think we are considering the wrong approach.

In 2007 the Kernan-Shepherd report offered a suggestion that all school districts should have at least 2000 students.  I know one of you computer geniuses would be able to fine that part of the report for all to see.

I think it is a great idea and a better use of resouces.

For football...there would be the consolidation without regard to athletics

SB City schools would be right there with the contraction of Clay and Washington.

The quality of play on Friday nights on SB public school fields would be enhanced significantly.

From an economic view...that would be the correct thing to do...house them at LaSalle (former high school)

  9. Ignoring a negative behavior takes tremendous discipline.  They are all debated the wrong side of that topic anyway.

The question should be directed to the Kernan-Shephard report where they recommend that school districts have more that 2000 students...a better use of facilities.

We just sent an email to our players to just make sure they are working out somehow, and that we cannot plan specific times or places. We also told them to stay within the health department recommendations of avoiding large groups getting together.

I guess I was referring more to sessions over Google Meet or something similar to go over new schemes or review plays

  11. I co-taught with a head coach in a Special Ed Life Skills classroom.  In addition to the teaching duties, he had to do IEPs, student surveys, OT/PT consultations, and any issues regarding his Teacher of Record kids.  I tried to help him as much as I could in the fall.  In the spring, there was too much work for me to be of much help to him.

He did a tremendous job considering all that was on his plate.

  12. So DI colleges are taking away opportunities because of PWOs...ha

So all PWOs have an excellent chance of playing minutes for the school...ha

Does it look good on a resume that you were a PWO in school...I would think

I do wonder how many PWOs chance their major so they have a better chance of playing on the team...

Parents are a big influence in encouraging fiscal responsibility to their children...

I know the GID members encourage fiscal responsibility in young people as well

  13. I think the bigger problem for many school is the lack of opportunities for many of the smaller and poorer school districts.

A good way to equalize this would be to follow the recommendation of the Kernan-Shepherd report which suggests that all school cooperations have at least 2000 to 4000 students per corporation.  This will help to equalize resources and opportunities for all.  Maybe back to three class football...who knows.
