And PFF has Kiser as the highest rated returning linebacker in college football for 2024.
From QB at Pioneer to 3-yr starting linebacker at Notre Dame. Kind of crazy.

Definitely. Both Kiser & Zachery prevented state finals trips for my brother and I. What those 2 did in 1A along with with these 3 Lutheran teams of late is impressive.

  2. Things are getting interesting in 2A North & the ACAC. Coach Kolkman is leaving the head coaching position at Heritage and is going to be an assistant at Bluffton. He just got Heritage back on track and seemed to be building a nice culture & foundation for the Patriots. Very solid addition to Bluffton.

Not in the last decade, and I don’t know about the “best QB,” but I saw Warren’s Desmond Tardy put a 300 yd. rushing game on Penn in the 2003 5A championship game. Thought I’d never see a QB performance like that again. And I didn’t … for almost 3 yrs. Then came the 2006 Regional at New Prairie. The absolute worst field conditions I’ve ever seen — and I once lost a shoe in the mud at a college game. Torrents of freezing rain, and then the temperature dropped 20 degrees, creating a bog with frozen ruts. Could barely stand upright on the field, except for one guy. The Norwell QB — a guy named Chandler Harnish — dominated the field that night. I have no idea how many yards rushing he had, or how many TDs, but Norwell won 49-20. How he did it on that field, I’ll never know. We checked his cleats — twice. Never saw anything like it before or since.

Guessing he also played backyard football in similar conditions at birthday parties. Probably a common occurrence in Adams & Wells Counties. Probably also got yelled at for playing in the worked up fields & gardens too when they were muddy. Why I'm surprised 3 of the 6 went to turf when they have an advantage with grass.

I'd be a little bit careful predicting future successful/rebuilding years based on MS classes. There have been many programs across the state that have crowned MS groups "state champs" before entering HS only to see that same group fall short of the ridiculous expectations people build based on the performance of 12-14 year old kids. On the other side, there have been unsuccessful groups in MS at AC - as recently as the seniors that started the state appearance run - that have gone on to earn success when it matters most.

True, but the class that is graduating carried a good load the past 3 seasons along with the upcoming Seniors & Juniors as of late. That class was dominant at every level and adding the grit/toughness of the upcoming Seniors and the talented soon to be Juniors was a great bonus. I hope the incoming freshman to 6th grade classes get better but they do not possess the same athleticism & football IQ as the grades above them. Hopefully they grow into it and the culture that is Adams Central football can continue to right the ship. That Bluffton 6th/soon to be 7th grade class reminded me a lot of the graduating class of AC at that age and similar to the South Adams 2020 state team. As I mentioned, they had some parents coaching from that 99 Norwell team that lead Roncalli 3 quarters before falling to them in the 4th at state.

I do think the upcoming AC 7th grade team will be solid playing as 1 team instead of being split into 2. Hopefully one standout continues with football instead of wrestling full time. He has the moves like Logan Macklin and is a tough kid & great teammate.

I expect AC to be a very solid team by the end of the season. They lost a bunch of kids to graduation, but there is still some talent that contributed to the team's success over the last couple of years. I think the week 1 product could be very different from the team that will go into the postseason assuming the new faces grow into their new roles. I wouldn't be surprised to see the ACAC and Sectional 35 come down to AC vs. Bluffton. I know that Bluffton lost some big guys and some of their primary contributors on both sides, but they return a very talented back.

I think this was a combination of Busco playing very well early on and Luers taking their sectional opponents lightly. Luers also struggled with Eastside and the Blazers were not close to what they had been the 2-3 years previous to 2023.

I think everyone expects a drop from the past 3 years, but the Flying Jets will be solid for a year or 2 before possibly having to "reload". The upcoming season's Seniors through Sophmores have talent & a gritty fight to them. The freshman to 6th grade classes need some development as they've had weaker records in MS & youth.

Bluffton will be challenging & possibly overtake the Jets in the near future, especially those Freshmen through 6th grade. They have a kid that will be MS (unless they finally verified his age) that is a monster offensively & defensively. He was on their middle of the road team. They had a strong team of 5th & 6th graders he wasn't on besides a weaker one that was still decent. They had some influence from Norwell's 99 state finals alums.

    FTA

Stacey Brewer, the principal at Yorktown, submitted a proposal to address the change that has been made to the one-game regional and two-game semistate and how it relates to the tournament success factor.

As it stands, if a school is moved up a class via the tournament success factor, it must earn three points (a regional championship is worth two points, a sectional one) during a two-year period to stay up (that was changed from two points last year). Under Brewer’s proposal, another point would be added, meaning a school would have to accumulate four points during a two-year period to remain up a class.

The straw poll at Plainfield showed just 15 in favor and 52 opposed to that change. (my emphasis)

Thoughts?  The 1 Game Regional, 2 Game Semistate, comment applies to basketball only?  Doesn't look like it got much traction, but seems to be a desire by some to make it "harder" for teams to "stay up"?

Side note, how about they change that format again. Make the current regional be called "district" and the 1st semi state as the regional. Then do a final 4 weekend of semi state & state for hoops.

rodney does not bet on 1a football

also i cannot pinpoint you on a map

Just south of Decatur (Home of 2008 3A Champions Bellmont) is Adams Central in Monroe (2000 1A State Champs & 2021, 2022, & 2023 1A runner ups). South Adams is in Berne ( 1A runner ups in 2020) just south of Monroe.

Adams Central and East Central are the outlier to this theory. There should have been a dot on those two small towns rather than a line that included the entire southeast portion of Indiana. The Jets are, arguably, the best football program in the state of Indiana regardless of class.

Disclaimer: There are probably 15 programs in the state that could make that same claim.

Yeah, I was including SA with AC for this. SA made it to regionals how many times and fell to AC. Be curious to see how they do without AC around, though they were in a bit of rebuilding last year instead of reloading.

This sounds pretty amazing but might be quite the dream lol.   We should be better though this year I think.  I know we have a huge freshman class coming in that did very well as 8th graders in the NE8.

I do get frustrated when I drive downtown and see all the AC yard signs.  I would be curious to know how many students in Bellmont's district attend AC.

Seems to increase each year. I'm not a huge fan of it either, but I can't say too much. I use my parents address in AC district for my elementary kids to go instead of in Ohio. Looking for housing but everything is ran up &  I'm tied to a certain area due to stepkids in school in Ohio. I want my house to be in AC district and not SA or Bellmont & be open enrollment taking away from those 2.

I'm of the opinion that AC can really threaten 2A.  Would be wild to see AC and Lutheran 4 straight years, but I honestly feel that those two could have been there in 2A in 2023.

Maybe, but they have a lot to replace this season. The MS & youth last year were a bit down, but hopefully those kids mature and become good football players when they see Friday Night Lights. They will be solid, but I'd say Bluffton is a team to watch from 2A North.

None of this can really be determined until sectional alignments, like Farmer said.  With Park Tudor, Covenant Christian, LCC, Adams Central, and Lutheran all gone from 1A, it'll be fun to see the refreshing amount of publics leading the fray.

Going to miss 1A! Wish we could have got 1 out of the 3 before leaving, but being there 3x in  row was awesome. See if SA can get back soon to represent Adams County. Be nice to get Bellmont in 3A, AC in 2A, and SA in 1A to Indy the same year. I can dream!

I guess that explains why she's so damn good.

Are you sure she's ranked 7th in the nation?

Yes. Her aunt that I graduated with at AC was also a phenomenal athlete. She was great in volleyball, basketball, and softball. Shame her aunt stopped playing basketball when the coach retired. Julianna reminds me of her in how she speaks & acts.

So Chicago is moving US Citizens to Decatur because they can't afford to have them live in Chicago anymore? Are these US citizens on welfare?? Decatur and Indiana are not sanctuary destinations. I'll discuss with my contacts in Decatur and see what they say.

I believe that it may be low to moderate income from my sources. They have been in the rough apartments just east of the school. Your contacts should definitely know those ones.

I would like to know what Chicago or Illinois state department or agency is in charge of this "program".   You make it sound like it is something that has come about through legislation, so such information should be publicly available.

Hard telling with Illinois & Chicago if any of this is being done above board. Just stating what I've been informed by city residents. Chicago has a history of corruption, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it's being done illegally somehow.

Why are people from Chicago moving to the Decatur area? Have family that live in that district (Belmont) and haven't hear that being an issue??

Chicago & Illinois are paying to move them instead of constantly paying for them year after year. Basically trying to be a write off. I believe the real estate company has slowed down as they've probably hit capacity.

  16. Everyone knows Adams County is a big wrestling county. However, 2 of the 3 Adams County schools are having really god regular seasons. Bellmont has won at least a share of the NE8 and on Tuesday will look to win bragging rights in the county with a win over South Adams. The Braves won a good one over Adams Central in December. Speaking of Adams Central, they just swept the ACAC regular season after winning back to back conference tournaments. I believe they may have won a share of the regular season, but could be wrong. I love when Adams County has success on the hardwood as well as the wrestling mat.
