If you are truly passionate about wanting to do it, I say go ahead. Even with all the BS that politicians are doing to the profession, I am still one that will say go for it if it really is something you want to do. I am not sure though that WGU is the best route though. I am not sure how many district administrations are cooperating with them. My understanding is that the field experience/student teaching is just a couple of weeks. I am thankful I ended up doing a full semester in different buildings with different age groups. I just don’t think two weeks is anywhere near long enough to give you the experience you need to decide if this is REALLY what you want to do. I am guessing that working is the reason for considering WGU, and doing as much as possible online, but I would do some exploring of other programs.

Yes working is the reason I am considering the WGU route. My fear is that WGU's program would not be looked at in the same regards as others. I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet due to this reason. I love working with children as I coach different youth sports in mostly the elementary to middle school ages currently. It may sound odd, but I loved going to school as a child. I love helping my step children with their school work as well. I hear the complaints from some teaching parents about state testing and such and acknowledge that frustration. I don't want to be naïve and think that teaching and schools are like they were when I graduated 10 going on 11 years ago.

I agree!  That score was an eye-brow-raiser!  I didn't think Northfield looked that great against Triton last week.  The 2-8 Trojans had the ball inside the Norse red zone four times.  But Northfield's D stiffened and they ended up winning 21-8.  So good job by the Norse to come back with a great game against Southwood!

They have me concerned for this Friday. I just hope it's not a 2015 regional game deja vu. The Jets didn't look as sharp as I personally had hoped Friday against North Miami. They will have to play much better to win this Friday. Last years Norse team gave a talented Jet team all they could handle in round one. If that happens again, the Norse may come away with the upset.

  3. I know we should have quite a few with the coaches on the board. My question is should I go back to school to become a teacher? I'm thinking either an elementary or middle school teaching position. I will turn 29 later this year with a busy family and have an Associate's Degree in Agribusiness Management that I've never really used. During the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school, I was talked out of teaching by a neighbor. I've never really knew what I wanted to be growing up as a kid, and guess you could say that up to this point that still holds true. My personality type is the INFJ that lists teaching as a good career field for my personality. I've looked into WGU a small amount, but have not pulled the trigger on anything. Does anyone have any insight or advice they can offer?

Honestly, I think most of the complaints come when you drive by 2-3 schools of the same size on your way to a sectional match up.

Yeah that's how it seemed when my brother played. We drove towards Muncie/Anderson areas for games when we had other schools/traditional foes our size that were in other sectionals. We ended up traveling for regional to the one traditional sectional foe that year and were defeated in terrible weather semi state game at home. I drove my parents while my now wife stayed home with my now step kids. That was a fun year as my brother's little league teammates from Ohio did well and we traveled to watch them for their last win in the playoffs that year. We had Friday and Saturday travel while trying to keep track of college football. Once all the kids are older it would be fun to do that again since the step kids and one of my cousin's kids go to school in Ohio and my kids and another cousin's kids go/will go to school in Indiana.

Close. I was the referee in the 2003 semistate game at AC against Seeger, when AC missed a chip shot field goal on the last play and lost 22-21. One of the best HS games I ever saw, and one of the games in our crew’s magical post-season run in 2003. Loved working at AC, and Rick Minnich was a great coach.

Never been so devastated as a fan as a kid. That team was by far better than probably any of the teams we've had from 2000 to now. They were up 21-0 at halftime I believe. Just sickening.

  6. Best was our 2000 championship team (AC) that should have lost in the sectionals to Southern Wells who went on to win the 2001 championship. The game was pretty much over, but SW wanted to rub it in for slaying the proverbial giant and fumbled. AC got into field goal range and hit a game winner to move on their historic run. The 2004 AC Sectional championship team was a longshot. They were once again pitted against SW who had whipped them by around 40 in the regular season and upset them. I always say it was because of the Jeff and Joel magic (former WZBD radio announcers during those late 90s to early 2000s glory days) came back to do that game after not doing it for a couple years.

Agree completely regarding Concordia being a dark horse.  Not sure how deep they will go, but they're definitely not a pushover team.  Battle tested and toughened up playing SAC schedule they beat the teams they should have beat (maybe except Northrop) and lost to the teams they were "supposed to" lose to, but did put up points against some of the powerhouse teams.

I'm on the fence regarding Luers.  Shut out by the SAC big four by an average of 44-0 and lost by 28 points to Concordia.  Their other losses were close games and the two wins were against weak teams, albeit larger schools.  I'm having difficulty discerning whether they are either: a good team just on the wrong side of the coin in a super-competitive conference, or a not-so-good team that got a wood shedding several times and maybe a little beat down from it.  If the former they could fare reasonably well in post season, if the latter they will perform like a mediocre team that got beat down repeatedly by better teams and make a quick exit.  Hoping it's the former.  Always pulling for the Fort Wayne area teams and know several people who graduated from Luers.  However, I can't shake some lingering doubts.  Just because you play tougher competition and get  blown out doesn't make you a good team.

    Time will tell.

Looking at Luers sectional, I'm not sure anyone will have the athletes to stop them speed wise. I can see them going to Regional and/or Semi State. They'd most likely have to play Eastbrook for the Regional. Not sure how they'd compare as Eastbrook was the runner-up last year. Then I'd assume the Cass/Pioneer winner will be waiting at Semi State.

  8. New Haven at Jay County

    Northwestern at Heritage

    Fairfield at Bluffton

    Eastside at Woodlan

    South Adams at Tri-Central

    Southern Wells at Monroe Central

    Caston at Adams Central

    East Noble at Northridge

    Columbia City at DeKalb

    Angola at Leo

    Huntington North at South Side

    Bellmont at Norwell

Hey, none of that bad juju. Go away.

But in all seriousness, I like having Monroe Central second round. With the system being what it is, I'd rather have the tough opponent second round, have an "easier" game in the sectional finals then get whoever had to claw their way through the other sectional.

It may be our only chance at making it a game if they play a second time.

  10. I shouldn't complain this year as the draw worked out very nice for my Flying Jets and also because South Adams is in a different sectional. It seemed that the draws the last decade since both schools were in the same class and sectional, had them meeting in the first round if not then the 2nd. It does suck that Busco and Southwood play the first game instead of the 2nd round. Also sucks that Monroe Central should play South Adams in the 2nd round instead of the finals. Hopefully the regional works itself out though and either AC, Southwood, or Busco takes on South Adams (or Monroe Central if they pull off an upset). If we get AC vs SA in round 2, I hope it just monsoons like it did in Woodburn this past Friday. 😄

  11. I've saw one post I like on this discussion and I agree with seeding the tournament by regionals. Only seeding the top 8 was mentioned and then random drawing the rest of the teams. You can award 2 sectional champs after 3 games (ex 1-4A) (2 games for 5/6A) still. You can have the seeded teams host the sectional games and then higher seed hosting in the 2nd/3rd sectional tournament games. Then start neutral field for regional games and semi state games. I'd classify regionals as NW, NE, SW, & SE. I'd rotate which regional champ plays each other each year. So year 1-NW vs SW & NE vs SE, Year 2-NW vs NE & SW vs SE, and Year 3-NW vs SE & NE vs SW.

What I like about our current format over Ohio: All in

What I dislike compared to Ohio: we don't seed

Simplify/compromise: All in with half seeded & half random draw.

  12. Everyone in 1A Northeast region for Southwood, AC, & Busco not to face each other until Rd2 and Sectional finals. Also for Monroe Central to play SA in that sectional final. Then most likely SA playing the survivor of Southwood, AC, & Busco for a shot with LCC (from what I read here). Sectional 43-1. SA & 2 Monroe Central. Sectional 44-1. Southwood, 2. AC, and 3. Busco. Still think this will be SA's year to claim the crown.
