    What are the primary differences between Homestead and Carroll relative to the below criteria :

    * Socio economics

    * Demographics

    * Community support

    * School pride and history

    * Admin support of athletics

    * Feeder programs

    * Homegrown talent

    Can't give you any specifics, but being from and living close to Adams County, Homestead and Carroll are more like twins than they were before. Both areas have that affluent appeal to them now. Homestead has had it and Carroll is feeling more like it. So points 1 & 2 are pretty equal. I cannot state on point 3 not being a part of either community. School pride & history seem similar from an outsider. I won't comment on the last 3 either but it seems they have decent teams in other sports as well.

    A true Hoosier Yankee would never consider 96th St in Indy as anywhere approximating northern Indiana.

    For the purposes of this exercise, I have drawn an imaginary line from Lafayette to Kokomo to the far south suburbs of Ft Wayne.  This is "my" northern Indiana.

    That's still a bit north. That line should be about 900 S in Adams County reaching the 700 E (State Line) everything south of there is EC to Southern Indiana for the NE section of the state.

  3. Adams Central @ Eastside

    Bellmont @ South Adams

    Jay County @ Huntington North

    Manchester @ Bluffton

    Norwell @ Heritage

    Southern Wells @ Blackford

    Woodlan @ Marion Local (OH)

    Angola @ Leo

    Central Noble @ Columbia City

    DeKalb @ Garrett

    Mishawaka @ East Noble

    New Haven @ Mississinewa

    6A:  Carmel over Brownsburg

    4A:  Mooresville over Marion

    3A:  West Lafayette over Gibson Southern

    2A:  Western Boone over Pioneer

    1A:  North Vermillion over South Adams

    Could definitely see South Adams making it there this year if things go as planned.

    3A:  Chatard over Gibson Southern, 42-19

    2A: Western Boone over Luers,  27-14

    1A: Adams Central over Parke Heritage, 28-20

    While I'd love to see that 1A game result, my beloved Jets are going to have to figure it out after losing some key players. It seems the years we have a chance, some stud like Nick Zachery or Jack Kiser just so happens to be there making multiple title appearances. That or you face one of the best 1A defenses like LCC in the late 90s or the start of Pioneer becoming a major player (97) & North White (98). Maybe soon another 2000 season will occur.

    Bellmont- Coach Davis seems to have been everywhere.  I am curious what he can do.  I do think he has a very underrated QB in Wilder and Friedt should be a beast again at FB.

    Columbia City- Soph QB who is a stud.  I think he will be one of the best QBs in the area when he becomes an upperclassmen.  I think they can make a jump this season.

    DeKalb- They are getting a lot of hype in the Fort Wayne media and I am curious to see if it is deserved.

    East Noble- Favorites again.  One of the top 3 players in the area at QB.

    Huntington North- Love the new Coach from what I am hearing.  I think he will turn them around in the next year or two.

    Leo- Very excited to see the week 1 matchup vs Woodlan.  Hope to watch it.

    New Haven- Sounds like they have a lot of athletes but i think they will finish around 500.

    Norwell-  They have had a rough couple years being in a conference of 4a and 5a schools but I know they have some players back this year.

    I like Coach Davis and he has been pretty honest about the whole situation he has signed up for and what his expectations are. The first week will be interesting with AC being so inexperienced at positions and Bellmont under a new regime. Have to pull for my Jets, but hope the Braves can improve this season.

    Who do you like week 1?

    My picks:

    Angola over Dekalb

    CC over Gavit

    EN over Plymouth

    Warsaw over HN

    Woodlan over Leo

    New Haven over Riley

    AC over Bellmont

    Norwell over Jay

    Join the Pick'em club as it includes ACAC & NE8. I'll try to do each week depending on my hectic schedule.

    Berne Witness does webcasts for Adams Central and South Adams sports. Not sure if the Wells County Voice will do any or not after last years happenings.

    Also forgot to mention that WZBD 92.7 FM covers Adams Central, South Adams, and Bellmont (North Adams) games. Not sure which is decided other than when 2 of the 3 play each other. Usually if one of the 3 plays one of the 3 Wells County schools- Bluffton, Norwell, and Southern Wells it most likely will be broadcasted. That all depends on the matchups happening at given time of the year. SA vs SW had been supplanted by a few AC vs Woodlan ACAC conference crown battles. Will mention that former WNUY announcer and former WZBD announcer does the webcast for AC games. Jay County has their own radio coverage on 100.9 FM and they do some Blackford and Ft Recovery OH games as well. Of course ESPN 1380AM and I believe also a 100.9FM for farther north listeners has games and around 7hrs of coverage on Fridays

    I think Lapel did the right thing in going independent when they did. That area is growing like a weed so that was smart to keep their options open. I wonder if its a headache as an AD to make that kind of schedule. Finding adjacent schools that fit the Bruins profile is definitely possible, it's just that most of those schools are probably in the thick of conference play by the time September rolls around. Elwood got caught being a wallflower in Week 1 back in 2012 and ended up having take a long, desperate drive up North to slow dance with River Forest. Yeesh

    Well Monroe Central and Shenandoah are in a 4 team conference last I knew. Monroe Central has at least 3 ACAC opponents scheduled. The ACAC has 7 members, so each team is looking for 3 opponents throughout the season so they have many choices.

    I would say no. I believe Elwood got the right man for the job in Brown. This season will undoubtedly have its growing pains but I think the arrow is pointing upward in the long term. Being an old fart and no longer living in town means I no longer have my finger on the pulse of the program but it seems like some semblance of order has been restored.

    Also, I really don't see anyone outside of maybe Blackford or Ole Miss leaving the CIC. I'd understand if Ole Miss and their increasing enrollment might have eyes for stronger competition. I can't imagine it's very fun to whip up on inferior schools with a fraction of your enrollment.

     Blackford is a bit of an oddball but it sounds like they have already entertained the idea of spurning the CIC in favor of playing paddy cake with random schools like Jay County (ew, why?). The traditionalist in me would be bummed to see either school leave the conference. I'm sure Lapel would be on speed dial if that really did happen. Shenandoah is intriguing as well from a size standpoint but some of those drives to Middletown would be kinda miserable.

    As far as pulling schools like Heights or Tipton into the fold...Not a chance. Those schools are positioned well both logistically and competitively. I see the Hoosier as sort of the gold standard of small school conferences. Zero reason to exit a comfy situation like that. I'd liken that to asking Kate Upton for a divorce so you could go to a singles mixer at the Elks lodge in Hartford City.

    😂That may be the funniest thing I'll read here ever. I haven't heard anything about Blackford leaving, but I wouldn't mind them joining the ACAC. I think that would keep SW happy and stay in the conference. I'd really like to see Bellmont and Norwell join the ACAC, but I think they feel it is too small of a conference for them. My guess is that Blackford was looking to be like Lapel? Schedule Shenandoah & Monroe Central and their conference mates as well as a couple ACAC teams and some CIC?

    Wish I knew.  Guessing a combination of new coach a couple years ago and maybe a drop in talent?  We relocated to Texas in 2006 so besides what's on here strictly going off what family/friends tell me, but it's all their version of what's happening which may or may not be accurate.  Enjoy keeping up with the sport "back home" via this forum.

    When I was at Heritage (early-mid 80's) we were that team that hovered around .500 most of the time.  What era are you referring to?  I remember they had several really good seasons but at a loss right now regarding the years.

    Seems like 90's to 2006. I know they were really good in 2005 and 2006 when I was a Frosh & Sophmore.

  11. Adams Central @ Bellmont

    Bluffton @ Northfield

    Eastside @ Heritage

    Southern Wells @ Fremont

    Angola @ DeKalb

    Columbia City @ Hammond Gavit

    Huntington North @ Warsaw

    SB Riley @ New Haven

    I looked for that interview yesterday and couldn't find it.  Checked the local news channels (that I know of) websites.  I did see one of the reports for the ACAC media day and read that SW did not attend, but I believe the coach gave them a statement through e-mail/text/other.

    Def not the same "old" ACAC conference of the mid- 80's!

    Think it may have been WFFT Fox 55.

    Sounds like S.A. will be tough this year..lofty preseason ranking..

    Yes, they're returning many key players and their Jr & Sr classes have been pretty successful at every level.

    Think they have a new HC.

    Yes, they do. He was a late hire and I believe came out of retirement from Northeastern. I believe he coached 21 or 22 years there. I saw an interview on one of the local channels where he is focused on building upon the character of the young men and not worrying about wins/losses.

  14. Based on highlights last year and the news outlets, it sounds like Angola and West Noble should have good years. I'm going to guess that Garrett could challenge based on their history. As for the small, it'll be a 3 team race as usual with Busco, Central Noble, and Eastside. Busco would have to be the favorite based on last 2 years.

    As an outsider looking in..if I was a betting man I'd go south adams..woodland..sw...ac..as my top 4..i do think the conference title is up for grabs and hopefully the teams I didn't mention shock me. The aforementioned 4 will have some heavy lifting to do as traditional conference  juggernauts.

    I'd say those 3 minus SW only due to the numbers recently. They've had a rough patch the past few years.
