  1. Personally? As an Irish fan, I'd love to see ND play LSU. I'm not going to let a bad game in a rainstorm against a second rate opponent (ND was probably overconfident and felt like they would roll them) change my mind about what kind of a team ND is. Bring on the Tigers............bring on anyone (not in a rainstorm when the QB can't throw and the recievers can't catch). Go Irish!
  2. For my sake? My salary isn't on the line. Notre Dame is 2-0 vs LSU in their last two meetings............both bowl games........................ 2014 & 2018. Penn State? That would be a good game. Like Notre Dame, the Nittany Lions rank somewhere between 5-10.
  3. Great to see the Brickies back. Football is better when historic programs like Hobart are relevant again. 1981 Snider 37 Hobart 0 at semistate (Rod Woodson's junior year) 1982 Hobart gets revenge 15-0 (Rod's senior year)
  4. This is a great thread relating to the resurgence of the IU football program. You really have to take it there? Sorry, not gonna bite. Congrats to Tom Allen and what he's done with IU's program. I never felt like he was the answer, but I'm glad he's proving me wrong. Can you blame me though? His teams at Ben Davis were less than mediocre by BD standards. He's certainly found the formula at the D1 ranks though. And 80 freshmen and sophomores? Looking forward to how good this team could be over the next couple of years.
  5. Notre Dame will be ok, but what about IU or Purdue? The "fans" are an important piece of the puzzle. Over 75% of attendees at any given college football game have no tie to the university they are cheering for. The money they shell out goes a long way in supporting the athletic departments. Imagine telling a university that they are only allowed to admit you if you have a college degree from their institution. IU's average attendance would go from about 40,000 to 10,000.
  6. I can laugh about it too. What was more embarrassing than the score was the fact that it came against a program that has fallen to second rate status. Losing to a team with a great run defense in a downpour rain isn't going to define Notre Dame's status as one of the top programs in the country. Nor will it define Brian Kelly's legacy. You'll probably still find something to laugh about when Notre Dame is 10-2 and playing in a major bowl game in January against a top tier opponent like LSU or Penn State. Don't forget to make note of Notre Dame 2019 page 3 so you can hold my last comment against me if it's incorrect.

    The rout is on!

Yes you did, congratulations on that......................... made me laugh. Anyway, let's talk about my "rose colored glasses." And enlighten me on the full picture. I'm not sure how stating that a downpour of rain favors the team with a great run defense and no passing game makes me having "rose colored glasses." Bottom line, before and after the ND/Michigan game.....................Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson are in a league of their own (none of which ND has been able to compete with on a recruiting level). LSU is on the outside looking in. Everyone else is battling for 5th place. Claiming that Notre Dame might be the 5th best team in the country on a neutral field isn't exactly "off the wall" thinking. How quickly people forget how competitive ND was against Georgia and largest ever crowd for a football game in their storied history.
  8. Not sure you even know what a "hot take" is. At the end of the day, Notre Dame still has 13 national championships (21 depending on the source). The last one was 32 years ago. Yeah, we get that. But the Irish were part of the playoff conversation 4 of the last 5 years. They play in front of a national audience every week. And they've played in front of a sellout crowd 269 consecutive times. They haven't been able to thump their chests and claim #1 since 1993, but they are still relevant. It drives the haters nuts. I love it! Go Irish!
  9. The "fans" drive the university financially. Some of the largest donors didn't even attend the school they support. Take away the "fans", take away the sport.
  10. Seriously, you spend a lot of time looking up what posters wrote weeks ago, lol. So sad.
  11. You have way too much time on your hands.
  12. Jealous of Notre Dame success.................love it!

    The rout is on!

Yes, I didn't clarify that in my last post. I was referring to years moving forward.

    The rout is on!

Michigan can't pass and has a very strong run defense. You don't think playing a game in a downpour of rain played in their favor? Then your not very bright. Quarterback development has been a problem, but I don't know how you can say that for any other position. I think Kelly is a great coach. The fact that they have been in so many playoff discussions during his tenure despite recruiting restrictions is proof of that. What I don't understand about Kelly is why he insists on passing in weather conditions like that (North Carolina State)....................and quarterback development. For the haters (Stax)..........................................Notre Dame will continue to be in the limelight week after week and they will continue to be in the playoff discussion as long as Kelly is coach. Sorry that bothers you.............just kidding, actually I love it. Go Irish!

    The rout is on!

Unfortunately, Notre Dame can't beat Michigan in weather conditions like this. The Irish are out.
  16. Oklahoma is out. This makes room for both LSU and Alabama joining Ohio State and Clemson. Those are your top four at this point and it doesn't look debatable.
  17. The Luers contingent (for whatever reason it's just Luers) have making this claim that Snider's a magnet school for football and draws all the best athletes. If that were truly the case, wouldn't Snider win the SAC every year? They have 3 or 4 SAC championships over the last 10 years. There are lots of athletes in Fort Wayne and they are actually spread out through the schools quite evenly. Snider is good every year because of good coaching, plain and simple. Open enrollment is a real thing, but it's not abused the way some on here make it out to be. It's easier to make excuses and throw accusations at other programs rather than looking within your own program and trying to figure out what can be done to make it better..............human nature unfortunately.
  18. With regard to Day, I've seen more than a handful of first year coaches who started fast out of the gate, then went downhill from there. With regard to Lambeau, that's going to be one expensive ticket!
  19. I would love to see Meyer at USC. Anything to beef up ND's schedule. Teams on ND's schedule seem to be cursed. I'm sure Wisconsin will be down next year and the year after. Ohio State and Clemson should be down in 2022. Alabama will slide by the time 2028 gets here. Seems to be the norm.

    Big Ten Expansion

That's correct. When ND travels to California, it's always the final game. This year it's at Stanford, next year is at USC. When those teams travel to South Bend, it's always mid season.
  21. Meyer is still a great coach, don't get me wrong. USC + Meyer would be dangerous. With the talent California has, all it will take is a top 20 coach to put that team back in the playoffs.
  22. No. Absolutely not. Kelly has put a better product on the field than Meyer (the last couple of years) has despite higher academic standards to get into the university. The only thing that separates Meyer from Kelly is the quality of recruits, due mainly as a result of Notre Dame's admission requirements for it's athletes. In fact, if Kelly jumped ship to Ohio State, I think people in Ohio would forget who Meyer was. People forget how great of a coach Kelly is. He's coaching at a University that most coaches run from. In order to win championships, you have to have access to the best recruits in the country. Notre Dame is at a disadvantage there. What Kelly has done is nothing less than remarkable. It would be fun to see what Kelly could do at an Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, USC, Texas, or Florida. But it won't happen. He's Notre Dame through and through. He's catholic. He's a long time fan of the University. And he upholds and respects Notre Dame's high standard for it's athletes, acedemics, and playing by the rules. Urban Meyer's better days are behind him. He's in one of the hot bed recruiting states in the country and struggled to dominate like he should have. Failed to make the playoffs last year (Notre Dame was better despite Kirk Herbstreits biased opinion), and was humiliated by Clemson the last time they made the final four. But somehow no one ever brings up that embarrassing loss (way more embarrassing than ND's loss last year). Anyone who thinks otherwise regarding Meyer need look no further than the success Ryan Day is having this year. Ohio State is the best team in the country this year IMO because Day is the head coach and Meyer is not. I have nothing against Meyer (other than ruining Rod Smith's college career). He's just not the same coach he once was. If Notre Dame let go of Kelly for Meyer, I'd have a heart attack.
  23. Notre Dame is out of the playoff picture for two reasons: 1. The winner of the Alabama/LSU game goes to the playoffs. 2. No one can stop Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Clemson. Notre Dame, Georgia, and Penn State are the next three out.................in that order. There is a gap between the first five and Notre Dame. But it's not a big one. The Irish will be crucified big time if they lose to Michigan. No shame in losing to a heated top 20 rival on their home field..........at night............on ABC. Win or lose Saturday night, the Irish are still at top 10 team.............easily. Notre Dame is going for their third straight 10 win season and it's driving the haters nuts. I love it. Keep hating. Go Irish.

    Big Ten Expansion

Notre Dame is a national brand. They've already made their mark on the midwest, so no need to join a midwest conference. Stanford and USC gives them exposure to the west. The ACC gives them exposure to the east. Notre Dame will NEVER affiliate itself with the Big Ten in football.
