    Do scrimmages count as practices?

I can't remember.. How many practices do you have to have to scrimmage?

Scrimmages do not count as practices.

A player must have 5 practices to play in the scrimmage. The 5 practices must be on 5 separate days. Two a day practices only count as one practice not two.

Looks like Warren Central won't be playing anyone in week two. Marion County just shut down football until October 1st.

Or maybe not. Looks like this is the recommendation of the Marion County Health Department Director Virginia Caine. Waiting to see if her recommendation is adopted.

This girl tragically passed too.. the list goes on. When ANY kid dies it makes the news... they qre not dying in masses there has been under 200 deaths under the age of 24 in the usa... so share all the articles... its just not what you say it is.

The only think I say it is, is proof that your statement "Its also been said before, and backed by data that kids are not dying from covid. Also backed by studies. " is not right.

This report says that this 9 year old girl had no underlying conditions.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but there are a couple things that are confusing, with this coming season being my 27th season coaching. As far as the Saturday scrimmages, the rules have never changed. Once the official practice date arrives, there are no scrimmages or practices allowed between different teams. That dates back to the jamboree era, even when I played. Also, there was never a 9th game added. When we went to the all in format, back in 1985, , the 10th game was dropped From the schedule so the season could still end on Thanksgiving weekend. Dropping to 9 games allowed for the extra round needed in the playoffs. That was the same year that the 5th class was added.

You said " As far as the Saturday scrimmages, the rules have never changed. Once the official practice date arrives, there are no scrimmages or practices allowed between different teams" IHSAA Bylaws 54-4 and 54-6 disagree with that statement.

54-4 All organized football Practices by players or teams shall be limited to the period beginning Monday of IHSAA calendar week 5 and terminating on the date the team is eliminated from the Football Tournament Series.

54-6 A School may schedule one football Controlled Scrimmage with another IHSAA member School. A football Controlled Scrimmage between IHSAA member Schools shall be permitted on Friday or Saturday, Week 6. A football Controlled Scrimmage does not count as a Practice or as an interschool Contest. A football Controlled Scrimmage may not be scouted by anyone not     affiliated with a team participating in the football Controlled Scrimmage.

You also said Also, there was never a 9th game added. In 1996 (and for several years before that) no high school team in the state of Indiana played more than 8 regular season games. Since  1997 most teams played 9 regular season games. Please explain.

North Knox is in the process of building an indoor multipurpose building that will house baseball / softball cages and an indoor place for fall sports. The footprint will be around 100' long or so and about the same wide.  We are looking for used turf to place on the floor.  Any contacts or connections would be great.

Big changes to the MLB playoff process are being proposed now. What does that have to do with Indiana high school football? It just confirms something that some of us have been saying for years.

If you want to make the regular season games more exciting, ignite fan interest, keep people and teams engaged to the greatest extent possible, you take steps to make those regular season games more meaningful with respect to post-season opportunity. MLB has obviously realized that changing the playoff protocol is a legitimate and effective way to do that. In order to make regular season games more meaningful, they are proposing changes that would keep more teams fighting for more playoff spots. It would increase playoff participation from 10 to 14 teams. The stated purpose is to make the stakes for regular season games higher, to make for more competitive games, greater "buzz" and, of course, the increased revenue that flows from that.

This teaches us that the most sophisticated minds in sports see using the playoff structure as a way to improve the regular season … just what we should be doing in Indiana with at least playoff seeding, and better still, a playoff qualification format.

So just to make sure I am following along I want to make sure I understand your post. You are saying that the MLB proposal of increasing the amount of teams that make the playoffs teaches us that we should reduce the amount of teams that make the playoffs in high school football.

Current North coach is 6-14 in 2 years. Jury is still out.

The North coach took over that team when they had not won more than 3 games going back to the 2012 season. In his first year they were 1-9. The 2nd year they were 5-5. The last time North had a better record than 5-5 was 2007. The 5 they lost were against Evansville Memorial who won the 4A state championship, Evansville Central who beat Evansville Memorial in the regular season, Evansville Mater Dei who won the 2A sectional, Bloomington South who won a 5A regional, and Henderson County KY who was 8-4.

They have 2 Sectional Championships, 2 Regional Championships, and 1 State Championship over the last two decades. Those aren't staggering numbers by any means, but they do have one heck of a winning percentage over the same time period. I think that's enough to qualify them as a Blue Blood considering their past.

You like the idea of an "island" conference? It certainly makes scheduling easier, but then it puts those conferences in a bubble like the SAC. Which is fine I guess if you are satisfied with the competition.

Jasper over the last two decades has 5 sectional championships not 2. 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008, and 2013. And 3 instead of 2 regional championships in 2001, 2002, and 2005. One semistate and state championship in 2001.

I could see not wanting to drive to Mt Carmel,IL from Tell City,  South Spencer, and Forest Park.

All three of those teams have a game next year with Mt. Vernon. If Mt Carmel joined and was in the small division this is the difference in drive time if they went to Mt. Carmel instead of Mt Vernon.

    Tell City 6 more minutes.

    South Spencer 19 more minutes.

    Forest Park 6 less minutes.

I would hope the returning team leadership could handle this in-house. This is what team captains are for — keeping the players together, as a “team.” A chance to demonstrate leadership by the captains including this kid as an example to the rest of the team how to behave. At the same time, this kid also needs to be told that if he wants to be a part of the team, there are standards he needs to meet. Attendance at off season workouts is one of them.

The IHSAA by-laws disagree with you on this statement "At the same time, this kid also needs to be told that if he wants to be a part of the team, there are standards he needs to meet. Attendance at off season workouts is one of them." Off season attendance can not be a standard to being on the team.

From what I have been told

coaches bring a list of players they wanna nominate

coaches cannot vote for their own players

the other coaches place their votes for whatever spot...votes tallied. You get that much

any player who was on the list but not voted for by other coaches enough gets honorable mention.

im sure coaches bring only so many players on their list.

so it appears Coach Hart very much wanted to have him as 1st team but the other coaches cast more votes for other players.

no idea how close the voting was either.

this is what I have been told. Your son had a great year. No reason to be down. The only coach who mattered to him clearly believed he had earned the spot on the list.

    This is the PAC by-law

"SECTION 3. An All-Conference offensive team and an All-Conference defensive team will be selected each year in football. Each coach can nominate players he honestly feels should be All-Conference. Each player nominated and receiving one vote will be honorable mention. The highest number of votes will be the All-Conference Team (by position). Captains and MVP will also be nominated and voted on by the coaches. A kicker and punter shall also be named by vote. One coach from each school can speak briefly about his nomination. Vote will be by head coach or his designee (coaches may not vote for their own player). Each coach is responsible to his local news media and radio the next day. The SecretaryTreasurer should notify major news media: Evansville Courier, TV, Louisville papers. Section 4. : If a tie exists, the player with the more first-place points, then second place, etc., would be named. If there continues to be a tie for any positions, a vote will be taken by the coaches to determine the tie-breaker. The coaches of the tied players will not vote. (added June 2015)"
