Jett ('26) is the son of Jon Goldsberry ('00) who wrestled, played at Purdue as a FB/LB/ST. He then played for the Bills (and Bucs I think) in the NFL.

Jon's brother's name is Zach ('02). Was a starting E/CB on the 2000 team. He wrestled at UIndy.

Their father Tom was an amazing football player and track athlete at South Spencer in the late 70s/80s. He played in college too, but forgive me for not knowing the full bio.

Tom coached interior DL until Zach's senior year. He was a big teddy bear and one of "the favorite" personas and coaches during the Bob Clayton era. He sadly passed away about a decade ago, way too young, but with a lasting legacy.

A little fun fact about Tom Goldsberry....he put a bunch of white catfish in my pond about 20 years (or so, probably longer) ago.  He was a great guy and is very missed in Spencer County.

Another name you will hear one of these days is Jett's little sister Gigi.  She came in 3rd (or 4th place) in the state middle school track meet in the 400--and she did it as a 6th grader.  When both your parents are D1 athletes...it doesn't hurt.

Heritage Hills is, frankly, one of the greatest 3A programs in Indiana HS football history.  Anyone unaware or disrespectful of this, is apparently one of those  "expert" Facebook posters....or much worse.

With that, this is a pretty darn good Chatard team.  Although known for their defense, they scored 4 TDs - 28 pts on only 9 offensive plays v. Knox  and 35 pts on 14 offensive plays v. Knox prior to half time.

I appreciate the words.  Everyone on this end understands the buzzsaw we are running into.....the speech has already been given to shut out all the media and frankly those in the community that see it as an impossible feat.  In 2019 the boys were being congratulated on a great season before the game in Indy was even played.  They were defeated mentally before they got there.  I'll steal one from the Gibson Southern playbook here...."IB".

2007 - yes, Zach Martin was on that team.

I’d be interested to know how the folks down south feel this 2023 HH team stacks up against the 2019 HH team.  I thought that 2019 team came was a juggernaut when they came to Indy, undefeated, I think.  And most BC supporters certainly did not expect the score to be so lopsided.  Do they still run the same offense?

also, what’s the over/under on number of posts before this thread devolves into another P/P vs. public school debate?

This is a totally different look, as BC coaches will clearly see, we have jettisoned the flexbone.  That offense was put together for Cole Sigler, who was a special athlete that couldn't throw well.  We dumped that offense.  Jett is a dual threat 1000+ passer, 1000+ runner.  Dangerous when you flush him.  This is a different look than 2019.  We still run the wishbone every now and then....some of old guys get a tear in the eye when they do.  BUT THEY DON'T RUN IT AS WELL AS 25 YEARS AGO DADGUMIT!  🙂

    I’ll get this started.

    What I want:
    Heritage Hills 28 Chatard 24

What I think is more likely:
    Chatard 35 Heritage Hills 21

this is clearly one of the more special Chatard teams because it takes A LOT to go undefeated with their schedule….And Heritage Hills is pretty young.  If Jett can take over and establish himself as the best player on the field…I think there is a chance.

Yeah, the fact that they went undefeated in the regular season isn't lost on anybody in Lincoln City.

Thanks for the detailed recap.  I was there as a spectator for all of these games except the 1997 game.  Despite the 7-1 Chatard series lead, almost all of these games could have had a different outcome if the ball bounced the other way on one or two plays.  This series could easily be 4-4.  Always had tons of respect for the HH program and how they are seemingly always in the mix in November.  Looking forward to another great game!

I haven't seen the Patriots play this year, but it sounds like they spread it out a little more than the old wishbone/option days?  Must be pretty good defensively too with how they were able to slow down the GS offense last night?

Yeah, we  have a different look offensively than the old days.

  5. Some history between these 2, some one score heartbreakers with just one win by HH and before this digresses into another "this football game carries the stench of Rome" thread, lets look at the history:

Heritage Hills 13-1 VS. Indianapolis Chatard 14-0

This is the 9th meeting between Heritage Hills and Chatard and the Trojans lead the series 7-1.

The first meeting between these 2 schools was in the 1997 Regional, The next 6 meetings were in the
South Semi State and this will be the 2nd meeting in the state finals.

Heritage Hills lone victory in the series came in 2004, The Trojans came into that game as a heavy favorite
and were the 3 time defending 3A state champs winning the title the previous 3 seasons. In that game Chatard
led 10-0 after the first quarter, Heritage Hills added a Jace Morrison field goal in the 2nd quarter and trailed
10-3 at halftime. The Patriots had a long clock killing drive in the 3rd quarter and tied it up with 2:29
remaining in the 3rd on a Bryce Pund 2-yard touchdown run. Neither team was able to muster much offense in
the 4th quarter before Jace Morrison kicked a 38-yard field goal with 8.3 sceonds left to seal the victory.

    Series
    1997 Indianapolis Chatard 24 Heritage Hills 21
    2001 Indianapolis Chatard 34 Heritage Hills 14
    2002 Indianapolis Chatard 35 Heritage Hills 28
    2003 Indy Chatard 24 Heritage Hills 3
    2004 Heritage Hills 13 Indianapolis Chatard 10
2005 Indianapolis Chatard 21 Heritage Hills 20 Overtime
    2007 Indianapolis Chatard 28 Heritage Hills 17
    2019 Indianapolis Chatard 34 Heritage Hills 3

I mean…when was the last time Heritage Hills had a home game this late in the year? I’m sure half of Spencer County is going to be there

2014, Semi state vs Tri-West.  Lost 14-6, TW won state that year.  Of 11 Semi-state games, we have only hosted 4.

Congrats to Gibson Southern on another great year.

I am proud of these Patriots.....they are young and very hungry.  On to Chatard....

I saw this as well.  There is no way in H311 that anyone called anyone with regard to a playing surface.  The jungle is like home to these GS kids who have never lost a game there.  In fact...in a recent poll...the GS kids voted "The Woods" as their 2nd favorite place to play!!

First of all, this is what I said when I heard this.  Secondly, your response is gold.  See, this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

Whichever... teams are not people. Even if you were to use who/whom, it should be whoever ... it is replacing the subject.

Also "lastly" because it is an adverb. Last is an adjective, so...

"Whichever has the last ball (will win)"

First of all, we are supposed to be on the same side.

Secondly, are you my mother?  I used to get this crap all the time, as she was an English teacher....long since retired and still corrects me.

I think I am actually more dumber after reading this.    ******dragging knuckles and walking away********

Not if you go by the "effective enrollment" so eloquently coined by our friend 32! And technically...we are still up by SF standards from our sectional championships in 2020 & 2022

Back to the game at hand on Friday ...everyone relatively healthy?? Any big factors to note going into the game??

As 32 said, we too are healthy enough that we have no excuse.  Calling for rain Friday....are we in for a mud bowl?

It didn’t happen but would have been cool, in 1988 & 1989 Tri-West and Western Boone almost met in State Finals.  The school districts border each other and many friends & family would have been divided on that day.  It didn’t happen TW lost to South Spencer in the ultimate mud bowl in 1988.  Webo lost to FW Luers in 1989.  What could have been didn’t happen.

South Spencer.....many don't know they played at that level consistently every year.  They were one of the "Big 4" in the PAC back in those days.
