Looks like Big D told us all we need to know. Crickets     I think not

Millions of crickets.  If Miner football gets so much respect, why aren't people on here posting about their games?  And all of those posts weren't from arguments like you say.  People used to actually talk about the games.  They'd talk about certain players or certain past games.  NO ONE is posting these days.  Congrats on being an Alumni and being able to set your standards so high.  So from now on I wont post either and just let Miner Pride post for everyone.  Too bad no one can actually talk football any more.  Pease out.

  2. From someone with no dog in the fight.  This looks like a tough one to call.  Both teams lost to HH by 35 points.  Both teams are 5 - 1 against common opponents.  GS is 9th in the 3A Sags (62.62) while SR is 12th (60.38).  GS's other loss is a road game by only 8 points to 6A Southport (6 - 2).   Harrell predicts GS will win by 4 points.  Since it is so close, I'll go with the home cookin', and take Southridge.  Would this be considered a "mild" upset?  Just wondering.

It is game day, time to get this thread going!

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this thread to get going.  It's been dead on here for most of the game topics this year.  Several posters who used to talk haven't been on this year and those who are still on here haven't said much, if anything at all.  Considering the Miners have had a really good year, it's been kind of a bummer.   We used to get over 100 posts or more on most Miner game topics.  These days it's mostly crickets.

  4. Just a little something for ya a little outside the box.  Forget about wins and losses.  Here is the top ten in 2A by SOS only:

    Team                      SOS

    1.  F. W. Leurs        41

    2.  Dater Dei          106

    3.  Andrean           107

    4.  Scecina            108

    5.  Cass                 113

    6.  Monrovia          119

    7.  Triton Central  125

    8.  Bremen            138

    9.  North Posey    143

    10.  Southmont    144

Thought it would be interesting to see how many teams that are ranked in the polls would still be there just looking at SOS.

I wish I could see that game.  I know Linton travels well.  Could be a packed night at the Reitz Bowl.

Linton does indeed travel well.  Great community support for the team.  I believe by the current sags (and home field points) MD would be a 7 point favorite to win. I've always heard great things about the Reitz Bowl so I hope I get to experience it for myself.

1.65 is the number that has been most widely used by states that have either utilized or considered The Multiplier

It also goes further in ensuring that the intended consequence (elevation to the next highest class) is indeed achieved.  1.5 does not always get the job the job done.

Just like other states have qualifying formats?  Just like other states don't have all in?  So you just use 1.65 just because other states do?  I'm asking for a friend.

  7. IF (big if) IU is improved, then they should win the next 3.  If it's still the same old IU, then they will lose to Maryland and Nebraska.  They will have to wait until the bucket game to be bowl eligible and somehow I'm not sure they can even win that one.  Purdue can practically be winless and still pull out that game.

Mike Goebel is the epitome of class in Indiana HS sports... Football and wrestling.

Bravo. Can't wait until you and your team team return to The Jungle with the (not your) cadre of lunatics.

Nothing but respect from Heritage Hills, football and wrestling, to Mater Dei and Coach Goebel.

Thought I would give credit where it is due by starting this topic. Personally I have never met the man, but if MD and Linton meet in the second round of the sectional,  maybe I'll get the opportunity to say hello.  Have met several coaches over the years.  Always glad to put a face with a name.  The majority of them have been cordial even when meeting a fan (me) of the opposite team.  Have even had a few invites from coaches to stand on the sidelines with the team for other games on their schedules (not Linton of course).  LOL

It should be a good game. I've enjoyed Colts vs Texans matchups in the past decade.

It's a little odd that both teams are coming off road wins over the Chiefs.  If the Colts are able to run the ball like they did against KC, then I like their chances to win.  If Houston doesn't have the ball they can't score.  I think we'll continue to see a lot of short passes and check downs again this week.  Dumping the ball off to a running back is about like a long handoff and help eats up the clock.  Houston's defense is better than Kansas City's but I like the way Reich game plans and the O line is one of the best in the league.  Then again, who knows?  Maybe Reich will have Jacoby toss a couple of bombs this game.  Big plus for the defense to get Leonard back this week!

You also have to remember t

Probably more than just 1-2 teams on MD's schedule who are better than what Linton has played.  The only teams on MD's schedule I would categorize as not competitive are Whiting and Ev. Harrison.  MD just ended a 5 game SIAC stretch with Memorial, Ev. North, Castle, Ev. Bosse and Ev. Central.  To come out of that with 3 Ws is very impressive.  If you haven't seen Central, then I think it would be hard to really understand how impressive it was for MD to hold them to 7 points and pull out the W on a last second FG.  MD is tough, will not beat themselves and they are much better this year than last year.  It will take a heck of a team to beat them in 2A South.

As I posted before, MD only plays one 2A team on their schedule.  Everyone else is 3A - 5A.  I haven't seen Central but I do know they were ranked #6 in class 4A.  You don't get ranked in the top ten by just showing up every week.  It was a Very impressive win for MD to say the least.  And I've also posted that Linton will have to play a near perfect game to have a chance at winning against MD.  I still believe the winner of 40 will make it to semi-state if not state.

Get better or get used to it (speaking of the 75-0 blowout). The game of life is no different. The football programs that work the hardest win the trophies. The kids with the best grades go to the best schools and get the best jobs. The harder you work in the in the real world, the more likely you will crush your competition. Getting whipped 75-0 is a painful lesson, but it IS a lesson. Don't like it? Feel sorry for the kids? Easy solution. Ten game season. Half the teams make it. Seed the tournament. The regular season should have playoff implications. The undefeated team shouldn't have to travel to winless team..............other states don't understand it, can't believe it, and laugh at it.

And have the sectional title game played at a neutral site while you're at it.  Also play the regional and semi-state games at neutral sites as well.  They do in Ohio and it works out well.

  12. Well the Chiefs let me down.  I guess this week's game between the Colts and the Texans will set the stage for who's top dog in the AFC South.  Hopefully  the Colts win so they don't have to play "chase" again this year.

If I had to pick the order knowing Linton has to face MD & NK in consecutive weeks, I rather MD 1st.  NK & MD both play a physical style that's likely to leave a few lingering bumps and bruises.  I'd rather play NK a little sore than MD.

Looking down the road...if Linton and NK would square off for the 40 crown, Warrior Field will be rocking!!!

If they thought the game a couple of weeks ago was "rocking", it would be totally electric if they met for the sectional championship.  I can totally agree with that.  I still believe either Mater Dei or the Miners will go to at least semi-state if not state.  And as things look now, one of those 2 will  have to play the Warriors for the title.  So if that is how it plays out, someone is going to earn it.  Mater Dei would have to beat # 2 and #3 or Linton will have to beat #1 and #3.  It will be exciting however it plays out.  I'd not only like to see seeding for the sectionals, but also a neutral site for the sectional title game.  Same for regional and semi-state.  They do it in Ohio and it works out well.

  14. Mater Dei's SOS is the second toughest in all of 2A.  Only Ft. Wayne Luers plays a tougher schedule.  Mater Dei plays only one 2A school on their schedule.  They play two 3A schools, four 4A schools, and two 5A schools and one of the 5A schools they beat easily.  They lost only 13 - 0 to the other 5A school (Caste). Their last game they beat 6th ranked 4A Evansville North 10 - 7 and that was on the road.  Make no mistake about it, Sectional 40 is Mater Dei's to lose.  The Miners have had a great year, but unless they play a near perfect game, their season ends in Evansville.  I hope they prove me wrong and I have to eat crow!

I agree.  Did I say something different?  My point was instead of Linton and Mater Dei playing in the championship they will in round 2, which compared to some other draws, isn't that bad. Sectional 40 lined up pretty well.  Pioneer, Cass, Avon, Brownsburg, and others have much worse draws.

If Linton swaps with NK how would you feel?

I'd feel better knowing the best 2 teams were in opposite sides of the bracket and should meet in the title game.  However, I wouldn't want them to necessarily swap with North Knox.  Maybe swap with one of the other 3 teams in the bottom bracket.  I'd be good with a rematch with North Knox.  I think they are the 3rd best team in Sectional 40.

  16. 3 minutes ago, hick said:

Have you even looked at some of the other draws? What makes sectional 40 "insane"?  It's actually a pretty fair draw for everyone.

In a seeded bracket Linton and Mater Dei would be set to play in the final (in Evansville). Instead, that game will be a week earlier if both teams get there. Not really that big of a deal.

Several sectionals are much, much worse.  I would say 40 is one of the more accurate draws if you compared it to an actual seeded format.

The best 2 teams in sectional 40 are Mater Dei and Linton which both ended up in the top half of the bracket.  The bottom bracket is set up for North Knox to play in the sectional title game.  The only other team worth mentioning is Tell City.  North Knox will take them out in the second round.  Linton took out North Knox on the road a couple of weeks ago, yet it is North Knox who gets the luck of the draw and will play for the sectional title.  The time for seeding was years ago!
