  1. Okay I've had over night to digest what has transpired.  Luck is gone.  That can't be changed.  I think the timing of his announcement wasn't very good.  However, I can respect his decision to walk away.  How many retired guys have to use canes or walkers just to get around due to football injuries?  How many retired guys have the shakes?  How many of them have no feeling in certain parts of their bodies due to football injuries?  Luck has made the decision (HIS decision) to retire so he may have a good quality of life in the future.  I don't fault him at all for doing it.  Again, I would question the timing of it.  Fans booed him as he walked off the field last night.  What he has done for the franchise and the city of Indianapolis cannot be measured and being booed is the thanks he gets?  To the fans who booed, no matter how angry you might be, that was totally unnecessary and totally bush league.  Too bad they can't be identified and banned for life from all future games.

    No offense taken.

The H-T has always done a terrific job with their coverage. A lot of folks around here read the H-T for that very reason.

THE H T has given the Miner a LOT of love the past few years.  I noticed their coverage started to increase about the time A.K. was the quarterback.

He never has in the first week. And all the Sagarin ratings are from last year. Can't really go by those in the early weeks of the season.

I knew the Sags were last year's, but thought he always put a prediction in even on week one.  Guess my memory isn't what it used to be.

    Agreed.

The Miners can't afford to get off to a slow start like they did in the scrimmage with Bosse. But I liked the way they finished. If they play like they did in the last 2/3 of that scrimmage I like their chances.

Defense looks much better, aside from the big play they gave up on the first play of the scrimmage. I think we'll definitely see an improved Miner team this year. As we should...can't say they're "young and inexperienced" anymore.

Didn't hear how the scrimmage went this year.  Thanks for posting that info.  As always, it's a new year.  I still can't believe they are playing Boonville this year!  Talk about a step up in SOS.  Win or lose at least people can't say Linton plays a soft schedule any more.  Would still like to see it tweaked just a little bit more.  Knowing the Miner program, they NEVER back down from a challenge.  Should be an exciting year for Miner Nation.  Love how they start the season now with the Raiders.  They are a quality football program with really great fans.  They remind me a lot of Monrovia and Ritter.

With all due respect to Southridge, i think Linton takes it this year, i've gotten to watch Linton a lot over the past several years and i know they return a lot of kids from last year's team, not often you hear that Linton is being slept on, but i think a lot of people are sleeping on them this year, take away injuries and i think Linton will make another deep run this year. Linton will be looking to deal out a lot of pay back for last years down year. Look forward to seeing them when they travel to play Monrovia this year!

sbriant20 sighting!  Good to see you on here old friend.  Hoping to make it to Monrovia this year for the annual tussle.  Would love to be able to meet up and shake your hand.  Having some health issues again so we'll see how it goes.  The Miners are a solid program and now get even more notice than ever since they have strengthened their schedule.  Can hardly believe they will be playing Boonville this year.   Wow!

  5. I've heard Raider fans say if you want to beat Southridge you had better do it early in the season.  2 years ago the Miners lost 17 - 16 in week one and then lost 20 - 0 in the sectional to the Raiders.  That year Southridge won state.  Good program and good fans.  Glad they are on Linton's schedule.  This is a good season opening test for both teams.  I'm not sure if the Miners can win this game but I think they make it interesting.  The Raider QB quit football?  Is he that really tall kid?  He was a good athlete.  Good luck and good health to both teams!

In no way should we be ranked in a class in which we've achieved nothing, but when you look at some of the schools who did receive votes, you'd think after a State Championship and  semi-state appearance it'd would get us some appreciation - but guess not. Back to the grind

That's what I was thinking, Jets.  SR should get some "love" at least.  Then again, who knows what the voters are thinking?

  7. The latest rumor I've heard is the Colts will make an announcement soon that Luck will be having surgery to repair his ankle (remember the original injury was to his calf).  If that happens, he will start the season on IR.  Not good news if it is true.  If he has surgery, it will depend on how long it takes for him to heal.  6 - 8 weeks maybe?  So you can probably expect to see:  no division title, no playoffs, no nothing.  Just another year of waiting to see who the Colts can draft next year.  Maybe they'll draft a QB that can stay healthy.

Let me be the first to say it" polls mean nothing. It's just for the fans"

Now that that is out of the way I am of the opinion teams that win state the year before should always be ranked number 1 till they get knocked off

I would say yes unless the team is moving up due to the success factor.  Pioneer (last year's 1A champ) is in 2A this year and are ranked at #5 in the 2A poll.  It will be interesting to see if they can stay there since they lost Kiser to graduation.  He was a "once in a generation" type player you see at small schools.  Saw him play 3 times.  He was very impressive.  I'd put him up there with the likes of Nick Zachery.  It will be tough for Pioneer to find his replacement.

Andrew Luck's "Small Little Bone" Injury Is Apparently On The Move: https://deadspin.com/andrew-lucks-small-little-bone-injury-is-apparently-o-1837222894

This injury story is looking like it's going to spiral out of control, much like Mr. Luck's serious shoulder injury did.

It would appear the fans are being "played" like they were in 2017 with the should injury.  The Colts aren't very good at playing "dumb" but they must think the fans are.  They keep putting off the Luck "injury" in hopes of selling those tickets.  Just a few days ago they said he'd miss 3 more practices, now they are saying he won't play at all in the preseason.  So which is it?  3 days or 3 weeks?  He has missed almost the entire summer camp.  I'm willing to bet he won't start week one either.  Oh well.  After all of the hype that was generated around this team after the draft, it looks like it's going to go to waste.  Ballard is great at drafting and such, but he still has a ways to go about handling injury info and making BS sound believable.  And so it goes...….

  10. First preseason game tonight!  Can hardly wait to see if the defense is improved.  They've had a great camp.  I expect the offense is going to be vanilla so probably wont be much happening.  We'll see.

What are your expectations for parris Campbell?  I picked him up in a few rookie drafts thinking that he would be an immediate starter with TY and either Cain/funchess

I expected (and still do) that Campbell will be a starter.  If he isn't, I still expect him to play a prominent role in the offense.  Ballard and Reich both have huge man crushes on him.  Today at camp he had a great day.  For all of the doubters who said he can't run a route tree, they should be watching clips of him at camp.  Dude is going to quickly become a fan favorite.  You were wise to pick him up.  Another dude having a good camp (so far) is Funchess.  I hear he's having a blast and playing great.  Funny what a change of scenery can do for a guy's career.  Just ask Ebron.  I also hear that Autry is a one man wrecking crew on the D line in camp.  With Houston getting pressure on the outside and Autry on the inside, we may finally have a great D line this year.  Lots of high expectations out of Indy this season.  I believe the first 5 games are going to say a lot about how good they are having to play the Chargers in week one and the Chiefs in week 5.

  12. Well we are into the second day of summer camp!  Only a few more weeks and preseason starts.  So far I've not heard any reports of any injuries (keeping fingers crossed).  I saw one reporter claim that Colts fans will love Funchess in bunches.  LOL  At least he's impressed one person so far.  Read an article that said Ballard is watching three position battles this year.  They are (surprisingly) the O line, (and not surprisingly) the D line and the WR group.  Ballard still has his "man crush" on Cain.  He says Cain has improved and matured a lot in the past year during rehab.  Hope Cain can stay healthy as well as the rest of the team.  Lots of high expectations for this year's group.  Let's hope they can meet (or exceed) those expectations.  They are primed to do some really great things with the new additions in the draft and free agency.  I know on the NFL show they gave a lot of praise to Ballard and the Colts.  I saw an early power poll from Touchdown Wire.  They have the Colts at #5 heading into camp.  Polls don't mean much, but it's nice to see someone in the media giving the Colts some "early love".  The Colts are also early favorites to win the AFC South.  Should be a VERY interesting year.  Several tough road games on the schedule like starting week one in San Diego.  I'm hoping Gordon is still a holdout or has been traded.  If have no running game, the Colts could easily win that one.  Would be a great start to the season.  They also have week 5 in KC.  Thinking of getting tickets to that one.

  13. The thing is:  any change is going to make some people unhappy, and others it won't affect at all.  Someone is going to feel they were "screwed" over something.  Going off what Coach Nowlin posted, you look at that schedule and it won't' matter much what class Cathedral is put in.  I mean really, what other team in the state plays that type of schedule?  So they are in 4A now.  Just wait a couple of years and they will be back in 5A.  And that STILL won't make some people happy.

I'm sure both Washington and Princeton would love the thought of playing 1A and small 2A teams, and getting their W's a little higher.... maybe help get kids on the field if they can win a few more games.  But at the same time... going from Big 8 to Southwest Indiana prolly doesn't do much for their pride factor.  What options are there?  I could see both pushing to PAC... I don't think PLAC is an option... WIC could be a drive.  I wonder if the  now Big 4 would try to pull teams like Linton, North Knox, North CEntral or Eastern Greene in the fold... which is I suppose the bulk of Southwest Conference if we add N.Daviess.

The thing is:  now that Linton is independent again, I really like how the schedule has changed and gotten tougher. Adding Boonville this year is another example of how the days of playing mostly all 1A schools is history. Sure there won't be as many 9 - 0 seasons, but the program is well respected now and is a worthy opponent for most classes to play.  I could agree that a lot of bigger schools would not want to play smaller 1A or 2A schools (or would they?), but when it comes to football, Linton is an exception to the smaller guys against the bigger guys.  I hope they stay independent at least for now.

Eastern Greene Basketball coach, Jon Neill, has resigned.  Eastern has a football coach candidate to vote on at the Monday night board meeting as Coach Dowell has stated.  The candidate has no previous head football coaching background. Fired coach, Travis Wray, is joining former coach Paridaen as an assistant at Evansville North.

First the head football coach and now the head basketball coach is gone?  Eastern Greene sports is taking a couple of steps backwards.  I realize the basketball team has been down lately but the football team was on the rise and doing very well.  Sounds like they are killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.  Too bad the players and the fans are the ones who have to pay for someone else's agenda.

  16. Step up!  Congrats to 09er.  I met him a few years back when my wife and I attended an LCC/Guerin Catholic game at Lucas Oil.  Very nice young man.  We found him to be well mannered and jovial.  He was nothing like the character he played on here.  We wish him well.

Other instances would be after a punt or any other change of possession or a runner going out of bounds. The clock will continue to run during those times as I understand the rule. Most states include COP in their mercy rule, but it's not listed here. The acronym is often TIPS (time outs, injury, possession, score). It's not as efficient as a pure running clock but it will still reduce the number of plays and get everyone out of there at least 15-20 minutes quicker. When a game time is only 2:15 on average anyway that's a pretty significant cut especially the second half (40 minutes instead of 60 minutes is a 33% reduction).

And the clock continues to run on incomplete passes, players going out of bounds, fair catches.  It is amazing how fast a half can be with a running clock.  I've been to several.

  18. Read an article on another website that said the Colts rookie mini camp this past weekend was quite successful.  I guess Rock Ya-Sin got an INT that had the sidelines going crazy.  Also Paris Campbell was impressing everyone in the camp.  They tried to go deep to him but had to overthrow him because Sin was in his pocket!  But he was catching everything that he was targeted on even one throw that was behind him.  I predicted after the draft these 2 guys would be starters as rookies.  I know it's just one camp, but things look VERY promising.
