  1. Hamstrings are sometimes tricky.  They can heal up quick or become nagging and drag on for a while.  Hopefully the shoulder thing is just a stinger or jammed and not separated.  Never had a shoulder injury but did have a couple of hammy issues over the years.  Used a topical thing the trainers had called "Atomic Balm" with a wrap.  Worked great.  Only took a few days and was able to get back to full practice and played the next game.  That was back in the 70's.  That topical I used is probably illegal these days.   LOL  They probably don't even make it any more.

agree...thought it was a real tough game...we had 2 of our best players get hurt in 2nd qt and didn't come back...tough officiating...just a real fun game to be a part of...score wasn't a indication of how close the game was...

Sorry I forgot to mention about the players getting hurt.  Seemed like there was a lot of cramping going on.  Are they going to be okay?

  3. Both teams left scores on the field.  Both teams were penalized beyond reasonable belief.  The Warriors seemed to play more inspired football than the Miners.  The Warriors passing game looked a lot better than advertised.  The short stuff seemed to work pretty well for them.  Then again, the Miners have had problems with that this year.  Best of Luck to the Warriors for the remainder of the season.

I feel like if Covington plays to the best capability, they have the talent to pull off an upset in the sectional as well.

    North Vermillion 35. Covington. 0

    P. H.  60.         Covington.  24

Upset?  Not happening against these 2.  Attica is a maybe.

Your going to like the looks of the stadium Friday...new fence and entrance to the stadium...looks sharp.

Sounds good NK94.  As I said, I've always liked visiting Warrior Field.  It's a great venue and a unique experience from the home side.  You can see all of the routes developing by the receivers and the holes open in the line for the rb's.  Love it!

Good morning my friends. I am here to deliver the juicy fart sandwich you all ordered.

    According to Sagarin:

Parke Heritage defeats North Knox by 8 points.

If the game is played at Parke Heritage, the Wolfs defeat the Miners by one point. If the game is played at Linton, Sagarin's prediction is wrong and the Wolfs pull out a victory.

I guess it's a good thing for Linton and North Knox Sagarin's guessing has no outcome on games, especially pretend ones.

Of course I wanna see by 3 scores. But I think it I can see a 14 pt game if the Warriors are really that good. Been a LONG time since real buzz words about the NK team. Kudos to all the Staff and supporters!

It has been 10 years since the Warriors last won against the Miners.  In 2009, they won 15-7.  In the last 10 years the Miners have outscored the Warriors 439 - 83 or an average score of 43.9 to 8.3.  In 2016 they had a 5 -5 record.  In 2014 they were 9 -3, but 2 of those losses that year were to the Miners.  In 2010 they were 7 -4 and 2009 they were 6 -5.  So they have had some "buzz" here and there.

I suspect that North Knox could have success initially with their brand of smash mouth football.  THey don't impress with the pass game at all.. and I think Linton will undoubtedly load the box and force NK to do just that. THe Warriors will either win the battle upfront and churn out a win.. or as is the case in most these meetings...they have to try to do things they are not comfortably doing.  THe other thing is that Linton's offense... can NK's D get stops..make plays, and chase these guys for 4 quarters.  ANother trademark of this game is that Linton gets up by 2 scores or more..and NK can't just run off 8:00 drives and expect to get back in the game. Now they could...if their D can make the plays.  If you get Lannan, Dyer and Howard into the 2nd tier... could be a long night for NK... they will have to get penetration up front to disrupt...but their LB's must also make the tackle in the open field.  I think both teams know each other pretty well in terms of what both do.  Linton has an added level of passing success that I think really really puts defenses in a tough spot.  A game like this.. on the road for Linton... with NK just losing to Vincennes.... the Miners cannot afford to come in flat or slow... seems like we've done just that in recent games with NK.. I know the scores don't indicate it.. but the opening quarter last year was 7-0 until less that a minute in the opening quarter..and just 21-6 at half.   And recall that NK drove 71 yards on 15 plays using over 8 minutes to the miner 5  fumbling on 4th and 3. IN 2017 it was 0-0 after 1... 20-6 LInton at half.  Again, NK's 1st possession they got to the Miner 10 1st and goal.. reaching the 2 and failing on 4th down.

NK is better this year...but so is Linton...by leaps and bounds...

I'm looking at losses to get some feel for this game. The Warriors lost 15-12 in week one to Sullivan.  They lost last week to V. L., 12 -6.  The Miners lost week one to Southridge, 28 -20.  The Warriors have 2 close losses, but I'm seeing they only scored 18 total points in both games.  18 won't win this game.  Unless something crazy happens, Miners should win by 2+ scores.

Well, you all know how I love the Miners, and I would love to see us make a long run in the playoffs but realistically I think the season would be a success if we could win our first 2A Sectional title.  Anything beyond that would be icing on the cake.  We have a good shot this year but Mater Dei will be a tough out, not to mention a couple of others.

Totally agree, Tut!  It would be great for the Miners to get that first 2A sectional.   However, don't ever get fooled by Mater Dei's record.  They always play one of the toughest 2A schedules in the state.  They will always be in the mix in sectional 40 because of the competition they play every week.  Unless they have some key injuries, they will be tourney ready by the end of the season and a favorite to win it.  I think this is the best shot the Miners have had to win their sectional since moving up to 2A.image.thumb.png.a97065f9929e8c49d2635cc00090cf1f.pngsince moving up to 2A.

  10. Warrior Field, one of my favorite stadiums to visit.  Love the elevated view from the home side and usually watch the game from there although not from the stands.  Seen too many big teams already have to chase Linton's skill guys from sideline to sideline.  All of them get worn out.  Why will North Knox be any different?  Speed on both sides of the ball has served the Miners well along with sure tackling.  Harrell says 28 - 24?  Don't expect the actual final to be close to that.  The only way the Warriors keep it close is to win time of possession.  Unless they have 3 or 4 long drives and keep the Miner offense off the field, I don't see them keeping up on the scoreboard.

I think the Miners will begin to pull away with their first offensive possession.  Look for running clock in second half.

Thinking the same thing Tut.  I think the Miners will come out and score on their first possession.  Also thinking they are going to score a few times on drives of 5 plays or less.  While it's nice that North Daviess has improved, people have to remember, the Miners are improved also.  And now that the QB for the Cougars is out this week, I expect scores for them is going to be scarce.

I just find it funny that you said that a day after I posted:

"Easy now, it's a long season. I expect Luck to miss a game or 2 as well but that isn't going to make the season a waste. He could miss the first 4 games, which is still just glorified preseason, and the Colts could be 2-2 with Brissett. I could even see 3-1 with an opening day loss to the Chargers and then wins against TN, ATL, and OAK.

Colts will still be the division champs at 10-6 or maybe even 9-7 with Luck missing 4 games worst case scenario. No reason to hit the panic button on this season yet."

So somehow you went from saying the Colts would have "no division title, no playoffs, no nothing" and hinting that they may need to draft a QB who can stay healthy to proclaiming how great the offense was going to be with Brissett.

    That's talent.

    Well played, State Farm.

The latest rumor I've heard is the Colts will make an announcement soon that Luck will be having surgery to repair his ankle (remember the original injury was to his calf).  If that happens, he will start the season on IR.  Not good news if it is true.  If he has surgery, it will depend on how long it takes for him to heal.  6 - 8 weeks maybe?  So you can probably expect to see:  no division title, no playoffs, no nothing.  Just another year of waiting to see who the Colts can draft next year.  Maybe they'll draft a QB that can stay healthy.

    Please stop

This post doesn't even deserve a reply.  Someone please tell this poor soul that Luck retired weeks ago.

  14. Considering Vinny kicked in yesterday's game and made every kick, I'd say he's not retiring.  LOL  And may I add a lot of fans wrote this team off after neckbeard left.  I told everyone that Brissett would do well.  He has led this team to a 2 - 1 record so far.  I felt after the first 5 games the Colts would be 3 - 2 and that was WITH neckbeard running the team.  In yesterday's game against Atlanta, he went full on jedi in that first half.  LOL  Obi Wan Jacoby anyone?  Dude has 7 TD passes and only one pick in three games.  Man can protect the ball and make really good decisions with it.  Colts are gonna be just fine.

What I like about this year is both Norths, Knox and Daviess seem to be considerably improved. Makes the games, and the week leading up to the game,  much more interesting.

Considering North Daviess is 4 - 1 this year instead of 2 - 3, 0 - 5, and 0 - 5 like the past 3 years, that would suggest "improvement".  However, let's not forget, the Miners are improved themselves.  They haven't been sitting  back just waiting for other schools to catch up.

  16. Hard to believe this week makes two thirds of the way through the season already!  Both teams come into this game with 4 - 1 records, but got them in opposite ways.  North Daviess had won 4 in a row before falling last week 7 - 6 at West Vigo.  Had to be very frustrating.  The Miners lost week 1 to Southridge 28 - 20 and have won 4 in a row.  I look for the Miners to make it 5 in a row after this week's game.  While the Cougars may be improved this year, their competition hasn't been very strong.  Harrell's predicts the Miners win, 28 -14.  I can agree.

Boonville.   Well I have to admit that I don’t have much knowledge of history with the Pioneers.  I know they were Big 8 champions in 2018---a conference that will be decimated by the defection of its major teams in the coming year.  Typically the domain of Jasper, Vincennes Lincoln and Mt.Carmel at the top of the heap, the Pioneers had their best season possible ever.. but best I’ve seen dating back to 1980.  They had an 8-2 2003, and won the 2004 sectional (losing to Columbus East 26-24 in regional).  That remains the only Sectional crown the Pioneers have earned in the last 20+ years.  In fact, they were 11-0 going into Sectional 24 championship last year, but fell 49-20 to 13-2 Evansville Central.  Central would go on to lose an epic 16-10 4-Overtime loss to Ft.Wayne Dwenger for the 4A State Title.   Head Coach Darin Ward came to Boonville via Corydon Central in 2015. Ward had good success with the 3A Panthers going 34-12 over 4 years and a regional crown in 2011.

The Pioneers opened up strong with a 42-6 win over Washington, then went to Vincennes and handed the Alices a 19-6 loss.   This set up a battle with Jasper in week 3, a team prior to 2018, Boonville had dropped 17 straight to the Wildcats.  However, the Pioneers bested the Wildcats twice in 2018.  Jasper came in 0-2… but those loses were to Evansville Memorial (35-20) and Southridge (21-17).   I don’t think people were surprised with the Jasper win, but perhaps the 35-0 result.   Going into last week’s meeting with North Knox football folks started questioning how much Boonville had indeed lost from that 11-1 2018 team.   After all their wins were against a combined 1-7 opposition.  Washington  has won 1 game in their last 13 contests (0-4 this year),  and Vincennes Lincoln 17-5 the last 2 years was clearly going  through a rebuilding process this year (1-3)

Top on that list was their 1,921 yard running back Conner, and their top 4 receivers in Hicks, Farmer, White and Schuck.  They totaled 851 yards of QB Phillips’ 1,049 passing yards in 2018, and 41 of his 55 completions.  Phillips is back at QB, and he is a big QB, 6’2 210 lbs.  He ran up 659 yards and 17 TD’s last year on 115 carries…so we will see a lot of him keeping the ball.  He has 205 yards on 39 carries this year with just 1 score.  Conner’s replacement is Junior #5 Devin Mockabee, who added 343 yards and 4 TD’s last year… this year averaging 7 yards a tote, has 396 yards on 57 carries and 5 TDs.  Mockabee is a speedster, but still 6’0 170.   The fullback is #30 Sr Reed Overton (5’0 205). He has just 3 carries all year. He had 187 rush yards and 3 TDs against the Alices, 133 on just 6 carries in week one against the Hatchets. Jasper held him to just 6 yards on 13 carries, whle he gained 70 against the Warriors last week.  The Pioneers run 3 wides most every play…but they are all 1st year starters in #26 So Tyler Scarbrough (5’9 155), #2 Jr Nick Wilkinson(5’8 150), and #9 So Mason Phillips (6’0 160).  Jackson Phillips, the QB and older brother of Mason, has thrown for 378 yards on 33 of 55 passing with 4 TDs and 2 picks, a 60% clip.   Wilkinson leads the receiving group with 7 catches for 67 yards, but it’s Scarbrough in yardage with 83 on 3 catches, 2 of those TDs.  Actually Mockabee has 97 yards receiving on 5 catches out of the backfield. Mason Phillips has 5 catches (40 yards) as well as #7 Jr Skyler Rudisill (6’0 180).  Last week I saw #88 Sr Willie Rouch (6’4 215) in a lot at TE for the Pioneer with impressive size… with 1 catch for 3 yards.  I’ve also see #24 Jr Colin Wolfe (5’8 180) at RB, and #11 So Jacob Heidorn (6’0 140) at WR.  Phillips threw for 131 last week against NK (10-17) and for 145 with 3 TDs (8-11) against Washington. Up front…  it’s #71 Sr Austin Fortune (6’0 265) and #52 So Blake Goines (6’2 275) at tackles, center #53 So Jared Broshears (6’1 270), and guards #57 Jr Cordel Heuring (6’1 215) and #58 Jr John Krantz (5’11 230).  I’ve also seen #53 So Thomas Hall (5’8 150) in there.   Those be some big boys.

Linton’s D certainly will be undersized compared to that Pioneer O line.  But that’s usually the case for Linton these days.  Linton has used a 5 man front a lot this year, but opted back to the base 4-4 last week against the Falcons.   This is that base 4-4:

Lannan was 2018’s leading tackler, and is again this year with 33, 5 TFL and 2 sacks.  Eslinger is right behind at 31/4/1.  Howard has 28, and has been very good in both run support, and last line of defense.

Robertson has come on strong, as have the entire DB group with 7 picks.  The five man front has utilized #59 Sr Braden Jackson (5’7 170) and #25 SR Quin Miller (5’11 175) at NT, and both have made plays there.  We’ve also seen quite a bit of #58 So Donovan DeBruhl (5’11 235) at DT, and #35 Sr Avery Puckett (6’2 175)  at DE on passing situations.  The Miners have been staunt against the run.  N.Vermillion were the first to put more than 100 yards on the ground, and that was only because Reynolds busted for a 49 yard TD run at the end of the gain against subs.  Opponents have been held to 2.24 yards per carry and just 2 rushing TDs.  It’s been thru the air that Linton has given up yardage.  In 3 of 4 contests, they’ve allowed 220+ yards, the most being in week 1 in their lone 28-20 loss with 267 yards.  However, the other two games had 259 and 220, but it took 33 and 35 pass attempts to achieve that, and both were solid Linton wins.

Offensively, Linton comes in fairly balanced.  207.5 rushing, 156.0  363.25 over all.

They come in after posting the highest offensive output of 470 at North Vermillion last week.  Linton average 5.2 yards a carry as a team, with 829 total yards and 10 TDs.  Led By Lance Dyer’s 318 yards on 36 carries and 2 TDs and Lannan’s 286 on 53 with a single score.  However they are not the only weapons in the Miner rushing arsenal at Howard has 3 Rsuh TDs on just 81 yards and 20 carries, and QB Goodman added 111 on 36 with 4 more scores.  The offensive line has been a constant, led by seniors Smith and Mongeau.  Smith with 13 pancake blocks to date.  The Miners will run with a TE, and that’s where Sr #35 Avery Puckett (6’2 175) fits in.  The passing game has seen a revival or sorts with Goodman hitting 62% of his 62 attempts (38) for 624 yards, 8 TDs against 1 pick.  The big target is Robertson, with 20 catches for 320 yards and 3 TDs.  He caught 8 for 106 last week.  Hauser lines up opposite, and has 7 catches to 94, Dyer and Howard both out of their WB spots add 5-155 2 TDs and 5 for 42.  Goodman’s 209 Passing Yards last week was his season best.

As for the Pioneer D:I saw them in a 4 man front against Vincennes, and a 5 man against North Knox.

    I’ll show the 5 man:

Quite a few large lads the Pioneers have.  But as the saying goes, "it isn't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".

    GO MINERS!!!
