I couldn't help notice that Boonville had a few different players out there against Nk that were out there against Lincoln.  I didn't see any Jasper video.  #74 Cameron Dorsey... who I saw at DE against VL.. is 6'4 265 has no stats agasint the Warriors.  But his overall stats had him 20 Tackles in 3 games.. one of the top 3 for the Pioneers.  On the 2-deep I was sent this week, he's not listed on the Defensive side at all!  .. but is a backup tackle on offense.   Looks to me like they ran 5-3 hoping to stop NK run...and weren't too concerned with the pass.  NK didn't need the pass (33 yards on 6 catches)...but couldn't stop the rush (48-356 5 TDs).  #20 Doades had a career night (just a soph) with 219 rushing yards on just 15 touches.   In that game looks like the moved #24 Wolfe to DE from one of LB spots, and put #32 Pulling (Soph) in at LB.   Course #22 Hary (Sr) is at the other DE, and listed as a starter... I didn't see him in the Lincoln game..so perhaps he had been out and Dorsey in?   Dorsey a pretty big boy though.

My gut tells me that Boonville underestimated  North Knox...or maybe was looking ahead at Linton.. or the Jasper loss put them in a funk mentally....   or they just got handed their lunch....  I definitely don't they will underestimate Linton, and I definitely would think a loss to NK at home on homecoming would snap them out of a funk and make for an intense week leading into tomorrow's long bus trip.  I would expect a more focused team, one with something to prove.  Week 5 is a key time.  Linton cannot and will not I'm sure take Boonville for granted...

Linton, on the other hand... is coming into week 5 playing well.  The passing game still puts up numbers...but hasn't given up the big plays like in week one's loss to Southridge.  I think the guys are playing much better in recognizing things and reacting.  NV threw 35 times, Sullivan 33...so that's a lot of passing to get those yards.  And the Offense has been an oiled machine.  We have not had the self destructive fumbles..unforced at that.  We did have penalties offensively that is what really stopped the offense when we didn't score.

We do run a different scheme than the pound n ground of NK.  I doubt we are physically as big at NK up front either.

Looks like the weather is gonna be nice again!  5 for 5!

Protect the ball and keep the penalties low = a Miner win.  After facing a ground n pound offense last week, this week the Pioneers will have to deal with speed and deception.

Just having some fun. If the Linton Miners aren't at least a 3 score favorite I'd be surprised. Boonville can't be the same team they were last year, no wonder they didn't want to join the SIAC or PAC for that matter. Adding HH, GS and potentially SR won't be any easier.

Same here 1984 - just having some fun.  I like posters who have a sense of humor without being a tool if you get what I mean.  I am not taking anything for granted.  Boonvillle IS a 4A program and has had some recent success.  I know they have some good players at certain positions so it isn't going to be "cake" for the Miners.  I think this is the first 4A school Linton has had on their schedule since Northview back in the 90's.  Whether the Pioneers are up or down, it's a step up in class for the Miners and not another 70 - 0 blowout of some 1A team.

Just FYI... only one E in Boonville

    Just like Linten-Stockten 😂

You got the extra "E" because I'm a heavy tipper.    Humor for humor.  I could have said, "Pionears".  LOL  I would caution using the name, "Minors" instead of Miners.   I think the last time someone posted that, their team was totally embarrassed on the field.  It's all good though.  And I apologize for the typo in the spelling.  So it's boon , like an adventure and not boone like Daniel Boone.  Got it.

Linton came on the field.. by the look of the numbers they could field 3 teams very impressive. No shortage of players from Linton! Ive got to say the Miners have a real solid team.. they have the ability to adapt to the situation very well. And the guys helping from the press box  can get annoying but are a great asset to the Miners combined attack. They were giving great insight to what players where screwing up and who to watch. Let's just say they know the game the team and Coach Oliver is very lucky to have them up there.

Both teams came out tough and was beginning to think this may be #2 the Falcons take from the Miners but late in the 3rd and 4th realization set in and started thinking if the Falcons played as hard and didnt give up against A #7 ranked 2A team like the Miners it's going to be a great year and playing Thanksgiving weekend agian. The Miners also have have a good chance of playing on that weekend with so many options of attack I'm surprised they are not 4-0 on the season. In all aspect The battle between both teams was great.. it was a hard faught ballgame and the Falcons found out what they could do against a great team.

It's been said that Linton has one of the best coaching staffs in the state and has had for a while now.  I do know they are well respected by other coaches (and fans) that I have spoken with.  It's all about the leadership and the culture.  Not so sure about the Miners chances for a Thanksgiving weekend trip.  The sectional has been a tough one with Southridge (moved up to 3A now) and Mater Dei.  I predicted the South rep would be our sectional winner when Southridge won the title.  Even though the Miners play much tougher competition these days, Mater Dei always plays one of the toughest schedules in 2A.  When tourney times rolls around, they are MORE than ready.  Good luck the rest of the season to the Falcons.

  5. I must admit I don't know much about the Pioneers.  I do know they finished last season with an 11 - 1.  They were Big 8 champs and undefeated for the season until falling in their sectional championship.  Looking at what they have done this year, I would have to say they must have had a heavy graduation and are rebuilding this season.  Their recent game was a 34 - 20 loss to North Knox, a program Linton is very familiar with.  I have to believe last week's final score raised a few eyebrows.  The Pioneers average 23 points per game and give up 23 points per game.  I'm sure the Miners have looked forward to this game with a new opponent especially given the step up in competition (4A program).   After a week one loss to Southridge, the Miners have run off 3 consecutive wins.  The Miners average 32 points per game while giving up 15.  In the end, if the Miners defense can limit Boonville's offense, I'd have to say the game will go Linton's way.  Linton's offense is well balanced and can score on long drives or can score quickly.  Goodman does an excellent job managing the offense and if you ignore him, he is very capable at tucking the ball and running.  And if you give him time to throw, he is very capable of picking you apart with the weapons he has to choose from.   Harrell has predicted the Miners win, 31 - 17.  Should be a good one at Roy Williams field this Friday!  Best of luck and good health to both teams!

  6. Don't be surprised to see the Falcons back at Lucas Oil Thanksgiving weekend.  If their defense improves a little by tournament time, they will be a tough out for the other 1A teams.  The offense is really good.  Several nice weapons for Ellis to use.  The Miners played a methodical type game.  Good balance on the offensive side.   The defense made some stops when they needed to.  Still a few too many mistakes with penalties.  Hope that gets cleaned up soon.

Just to elaborate a little more on this game -  Probably the two most accomplished programs in the Wabash Valley over the last 10 years.  I'm sure there has to be a sense of frustration for NV in this game.  They've dominated all other opponents on their schedule from a win/loss perspective during Crabtree's tenure.  Linton is the exception to that.  They get physically overwhelmed, and not much can be done about that.   Against other opponents, even if the NV talent is not as good, they can negate it with being sound in their approach and scheme.

I'm sure the Linton people feel similar about a team like Southridge.  Most years they are going to better than Linton, which is what makes a game like this year between the two even more frustrating.  Sounds as though Linton had every opportunity to come away victorious, but did not.  You still have to respect the fact that Linton has played a very challenging schedule.   And really that is the best thing about this game for NV.....they learn a lot more about themselves in playing Linton than any other game throughout the year.  They get the acid test when playing Linton.

Even if this does result in a Falcon defeat, which is the most likely outcome, they know that they've played the best team on their schedule.   I hope I'm wrong but until they prove otherwise, it is what it is.   I will say that a program that has been as successful as NV will not take the field thinking they are beat.  They have kids that expect to win, and usually do.  Unfortunately, if recent history is any indicator, Linton is the exception to that rule.

    Linton 45  NV 15

As I said in my initial comment, Coach Crabtree always has his teams prepared.  Even when they don't quite have the horses to win, they still compete and come ready to play.  I have a feeling the competition the Miners play is going to be a factor in this game, but hey, any given Friday night, right?  Southridge is only a couple of years removed from a 2A championship and it won't surprise me to see them make a deep tourney run this year in 3A.  So for the Miners to hang with them for 3 quarters helps a team come tourney time.  Maybe the Falcons should consider leaving the WRC.  I don't see it being as competitive as it used to be.  The Falcons could go independent and beef up their schedule.  Just a thought.

"other than a bad fourth quarter against Southridge,  they could be 3 - 0 themselves." If we throw out the fourth quarter against Southridge, Linton loses 12-7. That was the score at the end of the third quarter. I have seen this or we gave the Southridge game away from several post made by Linton fans. Linton lead for less than 5 minutes of a 48 minute game. Southridge lead for over 27 minutes.

You won the game.  Why the sour grapes comment?  Linton did lead 20 -12 in the fourth quarter and then gave up a couple of scores and had a couple of turnovers IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.  Go back and read my comment. NOWHERE does it say throw out the fourth quarter.  You are the one who said that.  If you are gong to quote someone, get it right.

  9. New coach, new system and graduation losses have been tough on the Dawgs this season (so far).  They will take their lumps but they will be back.  Their program is too good to be down for long.  I was a bit surprised at the scores of the first 2 games with Ritter and Edgewood (low scoring and close).  That's why the final score against the Miners was a real shocker!  Never expected that.

  10. Regardless of the outcome, this is usually a good hard hitting contest.  Coach Crabtree always has his teams ready to play.  The Falcons are 3 - 0 and have averaged 40 points per game.   The Miners have played a bit tougher competition and other than a bad fourth quarter against Southridge,  they could be 3 - 0 themselves.  The Miners average 30 points per game.  I'll admit I don't know a lot about the Falcons this year, but at 3 - 0, they must be in a good place,, team wise.  Harrell has predicted a 31 - 24 win for the Miners. Should be a good game but I'll say the Miners win by 2 scores.   Something like 28 - 14.

I’m not so sure even the Patriots’ magic would work with AB. I know it worked with Randy Moss. But frankly, Moss was much smarter than AB.

I predicted on another website that of Brown and Bell, it would be Brown causing trouble before Bell would.  They are both a couple of prima donnas and divas.  Brown more so than Bell.  This was too easy to predict.  I can imagine the Steelers are sitting around somewhere just cracking up over this.

I noticed the strange anomaly that Linton had something like a 45 point differential over Monrovia in the Sag ratings but John Harrell had The Miners a 4 point favorite.  Actually, we all know that Harrell is much closer to being correct. 😊  Anyway, I hope you can make it to the game, Tom.  One game at a time.  One year at a time.

Probably won't make it Tut.  Have radiation at 3:30  this Friday!  Had my biopsy today and I have NO esophageal cancer!  The lymph node that is swollen near my esophagus hasn't invaded it.  The doctor found no tissue there to take a sample.  So they are going to treat the node with radiation.  I guess I'll have to listen to Dan and Darren on the radio.  That is some consolation.  I really hate not getting to meet sbriant.  He's been a good chat friend on here over the years.

  13. Forgot to mention that Linton is favored by Harrell to win,  21 - 17.  According to the Sags this week, Linton is ranked #3 in 2A.  They can't get votes in the polls but the computer seems to love them.  Their SOS is #39.  A far cry from just a few years ago when it would be in the 200's.  Playing the #2 and #8 ranked teams in 3A helps over those 1A schools they used to play.  I REALLY want to go to this game but think I'm scheduled for a radiation treatment this Friday.

  14. Caught the game last night with the Bengals.  Overall the defense played well.  The offense looked good in the first half.  Kelly has been impressive in the preseason.  It's time to cut Walker.  I think Hentges will be our 4th tight end.  Speed had a great game.  Won't be surprised if he ends up starting before the season is over.  Looked like another Leonard out there last night.  Phillips and Johnson also played well.  Loved the sack by Snippy.  Was good to see Campbell finally get some action and did well.  Even without neck beard I think the Colts can make the playoffs.

Injuries take their toll, and when it is time it is time.

I think this is a trend we are going to see more and more in the future.  It isn't that Luck has started something.  I think players are going to consider their quality of life down the road and pass up on the ""glory".  The mentality has always been "tough guy".  I think that is starting to fade and players are making smarter choices these days.  It sucks for the fans to see their heroes leave the game early, but we have to remember these players are just flesh and bone like the rest of us.  As much as we want them to be superheroes with super powers, in the end they aren't.  I would imagine there are some fans who would rather have seen Luck play, suffer a career ending injury rather than just retire.  Those types just don't get it.

  16. I think the majority of fans were/are mad because of the timing of the retirement.  I don't fault the decision, but waiting until 2 weeks before the season starts was bad.  I seriously doubt Luck will come back.  If he tries, he will look like a hypocrite and a liar.  He would REALLY get booed then.  Brissett is the starter now.  People have to forget about 2017.  This team is much better than it was then.  He knows the playbook now too.  In 2017 he was learning it on the fly.  I see the Colts running the offense like business as usual even with JB at quarterback.  No, he isn't Luck, but Luck wasn't Manning either.

  17. Well that was one the Miners gave away.  Up 20 to 12 and the defense playing well only to see it slip through their hands.  Hopefully lessons learned for the rest of the season.  I think the defense had 3 picks and a fumble recovery, but the Raiders passing game hurt the Miners.  Take away a couple of big pass plays and the outcome would probably have been different.  On to next week!
