I didint see the game, but clearly Whitelands inability to throw the ball kiiled any chances for a comeback. Whiteland is in a small group of schools that can claim that they are the best 5A public school in the state, along with DC, ZV and VALPO. Cathedrals walkover in this contest clearly proves the point that the school is not giving its kids the opportunity to play at the highest level in state.
#1 You just listed 4 schools in 5A that have never won a 5A state championship. And that statement makes sense to you?
#2 I actually agree. Cathedral should permanently be in 6A. They play a 6A schedule. Makes no sense to slum it in the tournament. With the win last night, they are assured of remaining in 5A in the next cycle. Even with a likely state championship, they cannot move to 6A.

Cathedral is a 6A program. Hopefully Peebles will recognize that and push his admin to petition the IHSAA for a permanent promotion to the top classification.
Seriously? Two years ago they were willing to move down to 4A until the IHSAA revised the points in the Tournament Success Factor. They aren't petitioning anyone.

Can you explain? Seems Whiteland had success running the ball against some good teams this year. What does Cathedral do differently? Or is it simply a “Jimmy’s and Joes” thing?
Whiteland's offense can only take you so far. If you have the dudes, you can shut them down. Especially when they are so limited in the passing game. New Palestine was able to do it last year. Cathedral this year. Play solid assignment football, read your keys, make tackles.

This one could be setting up as the colossal upset of the season, maybe the decade.
If ever a team could sneak up on Cathedral, it would be Whiteland. They are solid in every aspect of the game. Big and strong. Very athletic
They will be sky high after pounding New Pal Darrin Fisher's teams do not get intimidated. They will meet Cathedral head on and goe toe to toe
welp, like I said, kiss of death...lol

No, dads making comments about other sons effort I believe.. 😂
They bumped up in enrollment after they bumped due to success factor to 5A, but have once again dropped back down to 4A enrollment. East would be the largest 4A school in the state.
All I see is that they were the 62nd largest enrollment in 19-20. Which would make them 5A. Have numbers for 20-21 head count been released yet?
-
I thought East was 5A by enrollment? They will be heading back down next year.

Final
Unfortunately this week went like I expected.
Great group of seniors that had incredible careers including back to back state championships. Fun kids to watch.
Congrats to Whiteland.

After trailing 27-3, the Dragons mounted a furious comeback, scoring 28 unanswered points, including 14 posts in the last 93 seconds, to win 31-27 vs Franklin. They started 3 sophomores on the OL and a freshman RB.
If you wanna learn how to play football the right way, come to New Palestine. You will have to play above your punching weight.
Dragons are a tough out.

Dragons score 14 points in the final 93 seconds. What a comeback.

Charlie Spegal has not lost a football game since October 20, 2017 as a member of the Delta Eagles. Unbelievable stat.

The regular season has been completed and conference champions have been crowned
Given the rapidly spreading advance of Covid and the onset of natural flu season, it's time to pack in the season and call it a day. The IHSAA has successfully navigated the virus through the fall season. No further need to press your luck given the potential downside

so I just saw that CG held Jordan to 2 catches for -1 yard and 1 rush for -1 yard.
also Wooten held to without a catch?

No dark horses in 6A, 5A and 3A. Those titles are already wrapped up and just waiting for Chatard, Cathedral and Center Grove to show up to collect them.
Only dark horse I can think of in 5A is Valpo. I don’t think anyone knows how good they are based on 5 game sample size.

Definitely a feast or famine play. Has worked well for the Irish many times but also left them snakebitten a few times as well. It did for sure last night and if you can remember it did as well in last years regional game. Up 10-7 nearing the end of the third quarter, ran that play TWICE inside the 3 yard line and it fooled nobody and New Pal stuffed it twice. Completely flipped the script and we saw the outcome. Cathedral ran that play last night earlier in the 4th quarter with no success and when Jordan came in motion everyone in the building knew what play was coming.
actually I think that was the first drive where they settled for the made FG. Up 10-7 inside the 7 yard line, they ran inside zone, outside zone opposite the jet motion, and then the QB pulled the ball on third down and then missed the FG

Would have had to hit it at least 40 yards in the air from where he punted for a touchback to even be a possibility. Punted from the same spot on the field earlier and had a 12 yard net punt. The decision to go for it wasn’t hard at all. Just didn’t execute.
has punting been an issue all year?

You’re telling me Coach Ralph punts it right there? No chance.
Agree wholeheartedly on the play call. The result of the play makes the decision look even worse, that’s called hindsight which to this day remains undefeated. Cathedral’s punting woes earlier in the game were well-documented as Cathedral punted from the same area of the field into the same wind. I think the people advocating for a punt automatically assume Cathedral’s punter was going to pin CG deep?? He failed to do so 3-4 other times in the game punting from the same area of the field.
Kyle Neddenriep did an awesome job covering this game on twitter. I was watching his updates while at the Delta vs NP game. We had quite the discussion when the 4th down call came up...punt to CG with no timeouts or go for it. That's a tough one. Touchback is most likely, you are just trying to get the ball out of there, right? So you're looking at losing 25 yards of field position or go for the win? Gutsy call, and you are 100% right, Coach Ralph would have gone for it.
You have a play you like and it doesn't work out. You trusted the offense to get the job done. And you handed the ball off to your best playmaker...he gets the first down...game over. You punt the ball, and CG still may drive the field and score. That's what makes this game so fun!

He’s not an Illinois kid. Born and raised in Indiana, played last year 1 season in Chicago.
Committed to Syracuse.I understand the situation. But the fact of the matter is he moved back here to play his senior season because of what was going on in Illinois. He is not the only one.

Wasn’t sure that was allowed here. It’s hard to know the rules without them being posted.

just saw it on twitter . . . notified this week of ineligibility . . . I wonder if this has happened to all IL kids trying to play football their senior season? Or just an isolated case?

Wrong. Peebles was the coach in 2018 when the decision was made to go down to 4A. Only a rule change kept them in 5A for 2019 and 2020.
