No bitterness here. Just kids playing football.  He’s just not going to be a as good in college as your son or a few other recent Indiana players.  Sometimes people are quick to over hype.  This does explain IU’s current talent level.

I think Charlie could be really good when/if he finds the right situation.

The game Friday has major Success Factor implications. If Cathedral wins, they move to 6A in 2022. If NP wins (unlikely) the Dragons would stay in 5A in 2022. Otherwise they move to 4A.

I don't know, that field hurt Cathedral just as much as Center Grove. For example, O'Neil looked sharp in the 1st half and could barely plant to throw the ball in the 2nd half. Cathedral's #2 (best DB?) slipped in the mud coming out of a break in a route when the Center Grove WR got behind him for the long TD reception. Cathedral has some sack. They'll schedule anyone. I'll admit I respect the heck out of their coaching and talent. I wouldn't expect them to win, but I could see them pulling off the upset in The Rematch.

if "ifs and buts" were candies and nuts, we'd all have a merry christmas

Which makes it a shame the Senior Class can't go out as 6A State Champs. Winning at the highest level could have really put a stamp on this highly talented and battle tested Senior Class.

It's crazy, at least to me, they've played the following teams in the regular season (20-22):

    • Cincinnati Moeller
    • Cincinnati Elder ( X 2)
    • Cincinnati St. Xavier ( X 2)
    • Bishop Chatard ( X 3)
    • Louisville Trinity
    • Brefeuf Jesuit ( X 3)
    • Center Grove ( X 3)
    • Westfield ( X 2)
    • Carmel
    • Brownsburg
    • Penn ( X 2)
    • Cincinnati LaSalle ( X 2)
    • Columbus North

Yet, They have no idea what it's like to play in a 6A Playoff Game.

most likely the state championship was played 3 weeks ago though

The 2020 team has a way more impressive resume solely based on strength of schedule. It was Top 5 SOS in the country and they lost their only game by 4 points. Most these seniors were starters on that team, so I don't think they mind which team people think is better. The 2021 team only has a new QB, RB, 2 receivers, and two defensive players.

The '96 - 2000 era were incredible teams. I'd say the undefeated 1996 might have been our best ever.

Hard to really pinpoint best ever with our 100 years of football. The 1959-1965 football teams only lost 3 games. The '62 team was undefeated and won the "game of the decade" 2-0 against Arsenal Tech, the city's finest at the time.

    Ready for Hawks!

    Great post! Those 96-2000 team...yowza.

Again, I'm not trying to make this Cathedral vs NP, because that's not even close.

Just think some of the statements in this thread are laughable or at the very least, very pre-mature.

I guess my point is that Westfield, Brownsburg, Chatard, Brebeuf, and Center Grove are WAY better this year than last year.  Yes, good point about Hammond that game was a joke and should have never been played.

Westfield was 6A runner up in 2020. Cathedral swapped out Carmel (in 2020) for Brownsburg (in 2021).  CG is a wash. Agree on Chatard and Brebeuf.

Says who? You? Sorry they don’t play an HHC schedule every week.

    Yep.  Says me.

You just going to forget the 14 other games they scored 30+?

    -hung 56 on 6A runner-up

    -44 on Carmel

-beat Ohio large class state champion

-40 in 3A champ who was top 5 regardless of class

-hung 38 on La Salle who was a top 10 team in Ohio

567 points to my knowledge is the single season scoring record at Cathedral.

I know it doesn’t mean a damn thing but CalPreps has the 2021 team beating the 2019 team by 11 points and the 2020 team winning by 16 points.

Yes.  All of that is forgotten when you score 6.

The defense this year makes 2021 trump.  At this point in season Irish have only have given up 83 points so far against the same if not more difficult schedule than we did in 2020, where we gave up 181 points at same point in the season (heading into Section Championship game).

more difficult?  seriously Swapping out St. X and Elder for Hammond Morton and Columbus North?  Do you read before you type?

You want us to say that the 2019 New Pal team beat a 2019 Cathedral team team that is better than the 2020 team (and the 2021 team) that beat LaSalle and Elder by a lot and St. X by a score all in the same year.  Not to mention a lopsided state title victory....Not a watered down Covid year buddy beating those Ohio teams last year.  The 2019 team that New Pal beat was solid, but not near as good as the 2020 or 2021 team.  Does that spell it out for you?

2019 team beat Elder, Trinity, lost to St. X in OT by 4, Elder by 7 in OT, only lost to CG by 5...

But your kids go to New Pal and you want us to admit that the 2019 New Pal team beat the 2019 team that is the GOAT. Hahaha.  Not happening

Please point to where I said the 2019 Cathedral team was the greatest of all time.  I'll wait.

2019 was a good team. They’re nowhere close to being as good as the 2020 and 2021 teams however. Offensively the 2020 team is as good as any Cathedral team I’ve seen, likewise with this years team defensively. A lot of the guys on the 2019 team played on the 2020 and 2022 team.

You didn't say "statistically".  You said the 2020 team was the best offensively and the 2021 the best defensively.

Ekiyor will be in the NFL next year. Cathedral no doubt had some impressive individual talent (as well as good teams) in the time frame you’ve referenced, but none of those teams were as a deep and/or collectively strong as the last two Cathedral teams. I don’t know why you need to fight it?

I went to Lawrence Central...so I know a bit about Cathedral.  I just find it interesting that anyone would call this team (or last years) the best all time.  Way, way, way too early for that.  C'mon.

Nor were they in 2019 or 2015 with four high major recruits, two of them who will be playing on Sunday’s with one already there. Again, what is your freaking end game here? You asked a question, you got the same unanimous answer three different times from three different posters. Don’t like? Well I don’t really give a sh*t.

Why are you so angry?  End game?  This is a message board.  Relax.
