How close are LN/Brownsburg and if one of them wins decisively on Friday night, do they have a chance?

Had a chance to catch the LN/Cathedral game last Friday night which was my first opportunity to actually see them play.   My original thought was that they were not very big, but they made that up for that with quickness and they are well coached.   The early interceptions gave Cathedral a chance to put the game away early but when they did not capitalize on the turnovers, LN did and that was pretty much the story of the game.   As it relates to the poll, I have watched the bottom teams in the poll play on TV and must say that in my opinion as of today, I just don't feel like LN could beat Baton Rouge (LA) Catholic, Queen Creek (AZ) American Leadership Academy or Greenwood (CO) Cherry Creek, my bottom three teams.    However, that could change as we go forward which makes polling these teams so interesting.

They are both right on the cusp and a good win by one and some losses by others in the poll would open up a spot.    However, there are a lot of great teams sitting at #101

Personally, I think any poll that has Danville (KY), East St. Louis and Lincoln Way East in the Top 60 should include LN somewhere.

You do realize that Danville (KY) Boyle County traveled to Cleveland earlier in the year and dominated St. Ed's. that East St. Louis played IMG Academy to a two-point game in Bradenton, and that Lincoln-Way East has a scored over forty points in nine of its eleven games this season.   Nothing against LN but comparing them to those three schools is not in the cards right now.  As I have stated on this and many other threads on this site, they are close.   But again, the final 10 in these things is always tougher than the top 10.

But that St. Francis team you have ranked 10th rolled IMG, correct?

It's all subjective, but the above argument is free from criticism that those 3 are definitive W's agianst LN:

  • St. Edward has 5 losses and Boyle County hasn't played any of the Louisville teams.
  • East St. Louis' best win was Loyola Academy, who ended up losing 2 weeks later to Wheaton St. Fancis. St. Fancis is not a Tier 1 Chicago Catholic League team. Loyola is still an 8A contender, but the elite Rambler teams don't lose to Wheaton St. Francins. East St. Louis plays in a very bad conference. The 2nd best team in their conference, who ESL only beat by 7, lost to Lawrence Central. IMG scored 3 points in a blowout loss to the Baltimore team that Center Grove played. Is IMG truly elite this year? ESL also dodges a lot of the top Chicago schools by playing in the 6A Tourney.
  • Lincoln Way East is solid and could very well win the 8A Title. They have a lot of talent and a Junior at QB who is already commited to Oregon. But, they didn't play any Chicago Catholic powers in OOC and their Conference schedule is pretty weak. Homewood-Flossmoor is the only team in their conference that is similiar in demographics to LN and the Vikings have taken a major step back since Buzea left for Crown Point. Their best win is the 28-7 W over Nap Central and the Red Hawks have more in common with Westfield than an MIC school.

  • Boyle County hasn't played any of the Louisville teams.

Louisville Trinity 23, Lexington Frederick Douglass 13

Louisville DuPont Manual 35, Frederick Douglass 28

Louisville Male 31, Frederick Douglass 28

Boyle County 38, Frederick Douglass 17

Ha! I'm sure Trinity or DuPont Manual would love to get a shot at them in the 6A Playoffs. Unfortunately, Boyle is a rural school is Southern Kentucky who plays 4A.

Those were all real scores from this year. I'm very aware. Have some good friends who went to Boyle County. They'd smash anyone else in Kentucky this year. The enrollment gap is far smaller in Kentucky than it is in Indiana.

Btw Boyle beat St Edward by 17 points. St Edward lost their other four games to maxpreps National #34 Massillon Washington, maxpreps #80 Glenville, maxpreps #96 Archbishop Moeller and #68 Archbishop Hoban by a combined 17 points.

Boyle isn't just beating people. They're stomping mud holes in good teams.

How exactly did a small rural school in Southern Kentucky become so good? I imagine it's not common for Kentucky's best team(s) to be outside of Louisville or Lexington.

It's New Pal-esque in that it's kinda a suburb of a suburb of Lexington but with 900 kids. One heck of a program. Always have a tough schedule. This year they played and beat defending 6A runner up Lexington Tates Creek (48-8), 6A semifinalist Lexington Frederick Douglass (38-17), 3A semifinalist Lexington Catholic (51-7), on top of St. Edward and a really good win against Lexington Christian.

That's the reason they are ranked 10th with three losses.   Look what they did to Center Grove.

They might live to regret that wish.  Boyle County has a running back who is simply unstoppable.    The program has been top level for several years with this year's team probably their best.

But IMG is just 5 spots behind at 15?  Wasn't it 31-3?

IMG's ranking is the result of an entire season's work, not just the one game.  Along the way the beat Bergen Catholic, Cocoa, Venice, and East St. Louis, all in my Top 100.
