Cannot wait to see the Trump people fall all over themselves trying to justify invading a sovereign nation and kidnapping the duly elected leader of that nation. It’s called “war.”

As someone observed, there must be an awful lot of damning stuff in the Epstein files to require a distraction of this magnitude.

Trump must really hate our Indiana state legislators right now:  https://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2026/01/08/war-powers-congress-vote-indiana-senator-todd-young/88086589007/?tbref=hp

President Donald Trump publicly lambasted Sen. Todd Young and the other four Republicans that voted to advance a war powers resolution, writing in a Truth Social post that the senators "should never be elected to office again."

Young broke with his party by voting to advance the resolution, which would require Trump to seek congressional approval for further military action in Venezuela just days after the military captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Since the nighttime raid, Trump administration officials have said the U.S. will control Venezuela for months or even years.

"I – along with what I believe to be the vast majority of Hoosiers – am not prepared to commit American troops to that mission," Young said in a statement after his vote.

While Young supports bringing justice to the Venezuelan leader, who has been charged with narco-terrorism conspiracy among other charges, he said future commitments should require congressional approval.

But Trump framed the vote as a Democrat-led effort to neuter the president's power to "fight and defend" the country. He called out Young and the other senators by name.

"This Vote greatly hampers American Self Defense and National Security, impeding the President’s Authority as Commander in Chief," he wrote. "In any event, and despite their 'stupidity,' the War Powers Act is Unconstitutional, totally violating Article II of the Constitution, as all Presidents, and their Departments of Justice, have determined before me."

The measure will go to the full Senate next week and must be passed by the House and approved by the president to become law.

Kudos to Mr. Young for doing the right thing.  And if Mr. Trump, "all Presidents", and the Dept. of Justice really believe the War Powers Act is unconstitutional why hasn't it been gutted or overturned by the SCOTUS?
